Ryan wraps up two-win weekend with IMCA checkers at Antioch

(July 15, 2023) – Jason Ryan Jr. won his second Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod feature of the weekend Saturday, holding off Mark Garner for the checkers at Antioch Speedway. With a front row start, rookie Billy Garner bolted into the lead when the green flag flew, pursued by his father Mark. Ryan, also first Friday at Ocean Speedway, settled into third and took up pursuit. Ryan and the elder Garner went side by side for several laps before a low pass in turn four of the 11th lap gained Ryan second as Garner pushed too high. Billy Garner continued to lead the way until an inside pass on lap 14 gained Ryan the lead. Mark Garner passed Billy second before a yellow flag waved on lap 18. Heffner joins list of 2023 PASS winners

(July 15, 2023) – Kenny Heffner came out on top of a fierce, three-way battle for the lead Saturday night at Port Royal Speedway, re-taking the top spot from Zach Rhodes with two laps to go to win the 20-lap feature for the River Valley Builders Pennsylvania Sprint Series. Veteran Roger Irvine, who led early in the race and was the other racer in the fight for victory, came home third. The IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car barnburner had a story for each of the drivers seeking the win. For Heffner, the victory was his career fourth and third at Port Royal, but his first since joining with former PASS regular Cale Reigle as car owner. Off Road winners overcome difficult starting positions

Only one of the four IMCA winners began the race among the first three rows in the starting grid, while the other three started at least four rows behind the pole sitter. Making up the most ground on Saturday was Cade Richards, who travelled from the sixth row in the field of 16 cars to the front to earn his first Off Road Speedway IMCA Sunoco Late Model win plus the $250 Sunoco Race Fuels bonus. Richards survived a four-car battle for fourth to enter the top three with 14 of the 25 laps left and then, without a caution to help close the gap, still had to catch up to race leader Travis Birkley, which meant winning a duel with Alex Banks, who was also in pursuit. Oliver, Barnes win again at Lee County

By Brian Neal DONNELLSON, Iowa (July 14, 2023) – John Oliver Jr. and Josh Barnes were both working on IMCA win streaks when the final checkers flew Friday at Lee County Speedway. Oliver, who started outside row five, worked himself into the hunt for the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car top spot by lap four and stayed close the next 10 times around the track, slipping under Derrick Agee for the runner-up spot and then going to work on Chad Krogmeier for the lead. Coming to the white flag, Oliver got under Krogmeier for the top spot and then held him off to claim his second win in a row and fourth of the season at Donnellson. Agee was third. Harris is first to repeat 2023 Virginia Sprint Series checkers

SHENANDOAH, Va. (July 15, 2023) – The Virginia Sprint Series got its first repeat winner of the season Saturday night as Jerald Harris streaked to a second straight IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car victory as black clouds rolled toward Shenandoah Speedway. Also the feature winner two weeks ago at Langley Speedway, Harris prepped for the main event by topping his heat race then, with inclement weather on the way, helped Daren Bolac leading the main event field to green. Harris stayed a little high and swept around Bolac to take the top spot as Aaron Leach made his way to third. Laps flew by on the pavement as Harris stayed smooth with tire management a priority. Bolac headed to the pits as Matt Mullins made his way to third with Robert Tyler making it to fourth. The caution-free event helped Harris maintain his smooth pace. Oreskovich, Yarie, Nolan treated to Halloween at the Half Mile IMCA wins

SHAWANO, Wis. (July 15, 2023) – Racing was spooktacular and Max Oreskovich, Marcus Yarie and Trent Nolan were all spectacular in their respective IMCA feature wins during Shawano Speedway’s Saturday Halloween at the Half Mile show. In the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod feature, Dustin Marquardt and Shannon Fandrey paced the field to green but JJ Vanderloop quickly used his fourth starting spot to get past Marquardt for the lead. As laps continued to tick away, the machines of Oreskovich, Jeffery Teske and Tyler Sobiesczyk, were making a charge to the front. A yellow flag flew on lap nine which Oreskovich took advantage of and was a few car links away from Vanderloop. Sobiesczyk fell victim to mechanical issues and had to be surrender his spot and unfortunately ending his night. In the closing laps multiple drivers were all the potential winner. It’s Logue by a nose, David Smith also wins first of season at Boone

By Joyce Eisele BOONE, Iowa (July 15, 2023) – Boone Speedway held its weekly racing series on Saturday night, even after the area had nearly even inches of rain earlier in the week and the track was covered with water. The drainage system and the great prep crew had the track in perfect racing condition that saw multi-lane racing from the 158 cars checked into the pits. There was only one repeat winner, that being Matt Avila in the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods. First-time wins this regular season went to Johnathon Logue, in a near photo finish in the Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds, David Smith in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Eric Knutson in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Cory Sonner in the Stealth Racing IMCA STARS Mod Lites. Williamson wins IMCA Modified RoC at Friday Shipwreck Beads Nationals show

(July 14, 2023) – Night number one of Grays Harbor Raceway’s 24th annual Shipwreck Beads Nationals saw Jesse Williamson win the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified Race of Champions while Trevor Points prevailed in the $1,000 to win Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod main. Twenty-one cars set the field for 25 laps during the Race of Champions, made up of 2023 feature winners and track champions across the Northwest and Canada. Williamson and Jason Tole set the front row. Williamson struck first going into turn one, taking the lead while Jason Beaulieu moved into second and Collen Winebarger made it a battle for the runner-up position. Williamson quickly put some distance on Winebarger, Beaulieu and Matthew Drager as Austin Kerrigan ran fifth. Following an early restart, it was Williamson with Winebarger right at his back bumper. Brown, Paris score big wins at CJ Speedway

By Jerry Mackey COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (July 14, 2023) – Racing resumed at CJ Speedway, following two consecutive nights of rainouts of regular IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing programs. Rain threatened to spoil Friday night as well but went on as scheduled and Patriot Fireworks provided a very nice display of pyrotechnics before rain moved in. The headliner of the night was the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified main event. Brandon Banks debuted his new car and the new car is going to be a very fast machine. Banks shot to the front from his fourth row start and built a comfortable lead only to have ninth starting Jarrett Brown chase down Banks and make what proved to be the winning pass with four laps remaining. Gaylord among first-time 2023 winners at Marshalltown

By Joyce Eisele MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (July 14, 2023) – Lakewood, Colo., driver Tripp Gaylord was among the drivers earning season-first IMCA feature wins Friday at Marshalltown Speedway. Last week’s races were rained out and Friday the track was dodging threats of rain, but the show went on as scheduled with 134 cars checking in for a full night of racing action. Tripp Gaylord, who is calling Iowa home for the summer, started 10th in the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified main and ran down then-leader Johnathon Logue by lap six with Todd Shute joining in the fight to make it a three-way battle for the lead. Gaylord managed to take over the top spot at lap 14 and then kept it the rest of the way to the flying checkers. Shute started seventh and took second, early leader Jimmy was third, Logue finished fourth and Izac Mallicoat was fifth.
