Drought ends at Seymour for Lance Arneson

By Dave Panske SEYMOUR, Wis. (Aug. 30) – Lance Arneson won his first Budweiser IMCA Modified feature at Seymour Speedway since June 12 of 2011 Sunday night. Arneson worked from the second row and into the lead after the opening lap followed by Trevor Spaulding, Jerry Wilinski, Chad Guyette, Rob Charapata and Konnor Wilinski.   A spin brought out the only caution of the race on lap 2, and Arneson continued to set the pace after the restart. Jerry Wilinski moved into the runner-up spot and point leader Eric Scribner followed into third. On lap 5, Scribner took over the second spot with Eric Arneson and Chad Bartel moving forward. Scribner closed in on the leader but after a couple laps, Arneson settled into a solid pattern on the outside, Scribner did the same on the inside and the margins stayed pretty much unchanged to the finish. Bartel ran out of laps to mount a serious challenge and finished third. Travis Van Straten was finally able to inch ahead and finally into sole procession of the lead on lap [Read More]

Five punch tickets to victory lane at Lincoln County

By Kelly Ninas NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (Aug. 29) – Scoring rave reviews for their performance on the high banks at Lincoln County Raceway were Colton Osborn, Chad Dolan, Casey Werkmeister, Jacob Olmstead and Jordan Biere. All punched their tickets to the IMCA winner’s circle on Saturday evening. Grabbing the front spot early while the track was still very tacky was Osborn as he led from the fourth lap to the finish of the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature. Charley Brown was the runner-up and early leader Jeremy Herbst was third. Finding the right set-up to start fast and finish strong was Dolan, as he led the final 10 laps to take the checkered flag in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod main. Dolan passed eventual runner-up Jamey Kennicutt for the lead on the ninth circuit. Crossing the line in third was Zach Schultz. Putting on a dominating display, Werkmeister was the victor in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature. Werkmeister led from the drop of the green to the checkers. Kyle Clough was second and [Read More]

Off Road Speedway preps for championship night

By Randy Pospishil NORFOLK, Neb. (Aug. 29) – Announcer Brian Larson blamed it on “full moon racing.” Another possible explanation may be the willingness of drivers in all divisions to lay it on the line while trying to make a move in the track’s points standings with just championship night remaining to conclude the Speedway’s inaugural season. Either explanation, or both, may be responsible for Saturday night’s intriguing slate of races at Off Road Speedway, but either way the ‘full house’ of racing fans was able to enjoy exciting green-white-checkered finishes and multiple cars ending up upside-down with wheels in the air. The IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks opened the program, with Mark Arduser securing his first feature win at the Norfolk track. Arduser, who had chased Jared Relitz of Emerson all race long after the two started the side-by-side in the front row, took advantage when Relitz spun out in turn two following a restart that established a two-lap sprint for the finish line. Arduser took the checkered flag just ahead of Jeremy Hoskinson. In [Read More]

Battle for the ages won by Wilinski

By Scott Owen SHAWANO, Wis. (Aug. 29) – Jerry Wilinski came out on top of a battle for the ages to win his fifth Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature in a row and seventh overall Saturday at Shawano Speedway. Eddie Muenster went from sixth to first on lap one and quickly looked to pull away but a lap four caution erased his lead. Muenster was joined by Wilinski, Jason Czarapata, and Marcus Yarie in a battle for the lead. The four cars raced together in a tight pack.  Though Muenster continued to lead, all four drivers fought for position lap after lap. At one point Yarie, Czarapata and Wilinski were three-wide for second. Wilinski tried numerous times to get by Muenster only to be denied. Finally on lap 15, Wilinski made the pass on Muenster stick. Muenster was then forced to go pitside with mechanical woes. This left Czarapata and Yarie to pursue Wilinski. Those three raced nose to tail over the closing laps with Wilinski winning the race. Czarapata had to settle for second, Yarie third and John [Read More]

Emerson rallies for Late Model feature win, series title at Benton County

VINTON, Iowa (Aug. 30) – The slimmest of margins separated Todd Cooney and John Emerson atop the IMCA Late Model Sunday Series standings entering the final night of action at Benton County Speedway. As such, it stands to reason it took all 25 feature laps to remove all doubt in determining the series champion. Cooney held a one point edge over Emerson entering the ninth and final series tilt and, based on the tie breakers in place, unless he won the feature Emerson had to beat Cooney by at least two positions on the track to steal championship honors. Done and done. Emerson chased pole sitter Charlie McKenna for the first six laps before assuming command on the next circuit and just prior to the race’s only caution. Cooney, who started outside of McKenna, worked past him on the restart while Ryan Dolan raced the top side into contention. Dolan, the winner of two of the first three series events held in Vinton this season, slid past Cooney and quickly chased down Emerson. Dolan assumed [Read More]

Season Championship Night held at Independence

By Bucky Doren INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (Aug. 29) – The final checkered flag flew on the 2015 Independence Motor Speedway season Saturday night. During the Budweiser IMCA Late Model main event, Sean Johnson stole the lead from polesitter Tyler Droste at the drop of the green flag. Johnson opened up a slight lead but Droste kept hustling around the three-eighths mile dirt track. In the closing laps, Johnson was battling heavy lapped traffic. That’s when Droste was able to put his nose underneath the leader. Johnson picked the wrong lane while working to complete lap 23 and found himself caught behind a slower car. Droste slipped by and raced off to the win. Johnson finished second. Ben Seeman and Curt Martin followed across the line. Rick Wendling started 12th and raced to a top five finish in the caution-free event. J.D. Auringer took the lead when the Performance Bodies IMCA Modifieds main event came to life. Ronn Lauritzen applied pressure on the leader. The duo raced side-by-side through the first half. Auringer put five car lengths between [Read More]

Brown is best on Championship Night at Dawson County

By Kelly Ninas LEXINGTON, Neb. (Aug. 23) – The racing was for all the marbles as Dawson County Raceway hosted Championship Night on the high banks at Lexington on Sunday evening. Finishing their 2015 season with trips to the winner’s circle were Charley Brown, Josh Leonard, Mike Nichols and Jacob Olmstead. Brown drove to the point on the fourth lap and never looked back to capture the victory in the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature. Brown powered past early leader Mike Densberger and cruised to the win. Working his way through the traffic, Jeremy Herbst scored a runner-up finish. Leaving no doubt while driving away from the field, Mike Nichols sailed to the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car checkers. Nichols pulled away after every restart as he secured the victory. Kyle Clough went from fourth to second during the final lap to earn the runner-up honors. Going to the high side and riding the cushion for all that it was worth paid off for Josh Leonard. Wedelstadt storms at Seymour

By Dave Panske SEYMOUR, Wis. (Aug. 23) – After one rain delay, a track prep session and three tries at starting the race, Mike Wedelstadt was the Budweiser IMCA Modified winner at Seymour Speedway. Rain early in the day and then again right as the first feature was taking the green flag caused track work headaches. Modifieds helped work the surface back in and were bumped back later in the program. Trevor Spaulding led the opening lap. Wedelstadt took command on the second circuit and immediately opened a lead on the bunched field behind.  Benji LaCrosse pulled into the runner-up and set out to reel in the leader, nearly a straight away ahead. The lone caution on lap nine set up a great battle up front.  Wedelstadt continued to lead with LaCrosse right behind. LaCrosse tried several lines to get an advantage on Wedelstadt but it wasn’t until lap 14 when he was able to pull inside and set up a five-lap, side-by-side battle with the lead going back and forth. Wedelstadt prevailed and again took sole possession of the [Read More]
