Linkenhoker is a natural at Natural Bridge

(April 16) ­– Anthony Linkenhoker was always at Natural Bridge Speedway, having grown up just 10 miles from the track, and Saturday night he was standing on the front stretch as winner of the Virginia Sprint Series main event. The IMCA EMI RaceSaver tour feature was paced by Linkenhoker and Tony Harris with Linkenhoker out first and Tony and Jerald Harris all in a row. Linkenhoker was smooth out front, running mid-track with Tony Harris high and Jerald Harris low close behind him. On lap 10, Jerald Harris went low and into second with Tom Humphries getting to third two laps later. The top three ran close enough to cover with a blanket until Humphries started to fade and allowing Brian Lawson to close in. Carney cruises to SSO victory at SOS

(April 15) – John Carney II took the lead at the start and never looked back as he cruised to his third Sprint Series of Oklahoma IMCA EMI RaceSaver Sprint Car victory of the season Friday at Southern Oklahoma Speedway. Carney and Sterling Hoff started on the front row for the 20-lap feature with Carney taking the lead as the green flag fell. Third starting Joe Wood Jr. quickly moved into second from his third starting position while Gary Kelley, Hoff and Lloyd Clevenger followed in the top five. Carney had built a four car length lead over Wood before the first and only caution of the feature fell when Ty Williams and Clevenger tangled in turn four. Taylor has IMCA Modified field covered at Legit 

WEST PLAINS, Mo. (April 16) – After restarting last in Saturday’s main event at Legit Speedway, then racing back through the field to take the $1,500 checkers, Jeff Taylor got to go home and get some shuteye. Taylor got the best of the Xtreme Motor Sports Modified field after exiting to the pits with a cut left rear tire five circuits into the 30-lapper. “It was just a racing deal. I got into them and they got into me,” said Taylor, seventh on the origi­nal starting grid. “After the restart I was able to run high, low, middle, just wherever. I was happy we were able to so good. There were some pretty good guys there.” The race ended with a couple late cautions and Taylor, already on the ballot for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational, four car lengths ahead of Logan Martin. Brown Tops IMCA Modified Extravaganza At West Liberty

By Jerry Mackey WEST LIBERTY, Iowa (April 16) ­– An outstanding field of 80 race teams entered the West Liberty Raceway Modified Extravaganza on Saturday night. When the final checkered flag of the night waved it was Kyle Brown collecting the $1,000 top prize after thrilling the fans with a charge to the checkers overtaking race leader Kurt Kile for ahalf a car length Performance Concepts IMCA Modified victory. Kile led for 24 and ¾-laps before Brown executed the winning move in the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier. Ray Guss Jr. crossed under the checkers third ahead of Chris Zogg and Zach VanderBeek. The Weikert Iron & Metal IMCA Northern SportMods main event saw Curtis Van Der Wal score a hard fought win over Tim Plummer. The two battled for the majority of the 20-lap main before Vanderwal was able to score a two car length win. Irvine wins big at Marshalltown

By Joyce Eisele MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (April 15) – No stranger to winning big, Brian Irvine took the $1,000 top prize in the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature on opening night Friday at Marshalltown Speedway. Thirty-one Modifieds were on hand for the 25-lap, Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying contest and Joel Rust started on the pole.  Rust hung on tight to that top spot through the first 14 laps before the caution came out and his lead disappeared. By this time, Irvine had made it into second place and applied pressure when the race re­started. Rust and Irvine raced closely the remaining laps, swapping the lead numerous times, but it was Irvine taking final command and sweeping home to a victory. Third place went to Tim Ward, 11th starting Kyle Brown was fourth and Tom Berry finished in fifth. Southern Iowa Speedway holds regular season opener

By Jeremy Fox OSKALOOSA, Iowa (April 13) ­– Five drivers tamed the half-mile monster in the regular season opener Wednesday at Southern Iowa Speedway. Cayden Carter and Josh Foster started the 20-lap Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature event on the front row and it was Foster quickly grabbing the top spot and getting out to a commanding lead. A lap 12 caution came out and Foster saw Kelly Shryock and Ricky Thornton Jr. right behind him for the ensuing restart. Foster held them off until the yellow came out again on lap 17, this time for Shy­rock in turn four. Thornton got a great restart and took the lead away from Foster. Thornton went on to take the win. Colt Mather finished second, Zack Vander Beek was third, Foster was fourth and Tyler Groenen­dyk was fifth. Other feature winners were Cayden Carter in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Curtis VanDerWal in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, Nick Ulin in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Shane Evans in the Mach-1 Sport Compacts.

Osborn opens season with Lincoln County checkers

(April 9) – Getting their season started off right with Saturday trips to the winner’s circle at Lincoln County Raceway were Colton Osborn, Jamey Kennicutt, Casey Werkmeis­ter, Jacob Olmstead and Andrew Baumgardner. Starting on the pole and putting on a dominating performance of never relinquishing the lead was Osborn, on his way to scoring the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified win. Osborn weathered the storm of a late caution and then cruised to the victory. Runner-up Jeremy Frenier had started seventh. After starting in the second row and snaring the lead on the fourth lap, Jamey Kennicutt rolled to the win in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod division. Kennicutt built a big lead that was erased by a late yellow but hung on for the win ahead of Dillon Schultz. Hoeft handles Modified foes at Hancock County 

By Greg Grabianowski BRITT, Iowa (April (9) – Jesse Hoeft of Forest City started on the outside of row one and never looked back in winning Saturday’s Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified main event at Hancock County Speedway. J.J. Wise took second followed by 11th starting Dustin Smith, Austin Wolf and Ben Kraus. Luke Sathoff held off the challenge by David Smith to take the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car checkers. Calvin Lange ended up in third place with Jim Larson fourth and Devin Smith fifth. Ninth starting Nick Meyer was first across the finish line in the 24-car Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature. Matt Looft finished second with hard-charging Jared Boumeester third. Nate Chodur was fourth and Jerid Ratzke rounded out the top five cars. Dinsmore is spot on at Cotton Bowl

Hallas PAIGE, Texas (April, 9) ­– Greg Dinsmore chased down Brian Walker, used the middle groove to get for the lead near halfway and then eased away in the final laps for the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified win Saturday at Cotton Bowl Speedway. “The car was spot on tonight,” said Dinsmore. “There’s always great competition here at Cotton Bowl. The track is always racy and gets the show over in a timely manner. I knew I had to get to do something to get to the front early.” J.J. Regular season kicks off at RPM 

By Mike Hughes HAYS, Kan. (April 9) – After a very successful Sunflower Classic two weeks ago, the regular points season got underway at RPM Speedway in Hays, KS, Saturday evening, April 9. The NAPA Auto Parts/Gib’s Auto Supply IMCA Modified feature had the wildest finish of the night.  Danny Morrison led the opening lap before Dylan Sherfick took the lead. Sherfick appeared to have the race well in hand until a caution on the final lap for a spinning car set up a one-lap shootout to the finish. Sherfick led the field back to green, trailed by Morrison and Tyler Frye. As the field headed into turn two on the final lap, Frye shot around Morrison for second, dove under Sherfick in turns three and four and made it stick, then held on to the checkers by a car length. Morrison was third, followed by Clay Money and Steven Bowers Jr. Chad Sterling was the Advantage Glass Plus IMCA Stock Car winner.
