Olmstead holds off Lexington challengers

LEXINGTON, Neb. (June 26) – Racing action was fast-paced with multiple grooves being used at Lexington Raceway Sunday evening. Piloting their racers to the winner’s circle were Colton Osborn, Denny Egge, Mike Nichols and Jacob Olmstead.

There was a neck-and-neck battle over the final laps between Jacob Wolsleben and Olmstead. Heavy contact between the duo during the white flag lap brought out the caution and resulted in a dash for the feature win and Wolsleben was forced to change a flat tire to rejoin the field.

Olmstead grabbed the lead on the 10th lap restart and held off all challengers for the win. Brady Weinman worked his way into second while Luke Wassom rallied for third.

Competition was fierce for the lead position for much of the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature with the lead being exchanged five times.  Osborn, driving his ‘Back in Black’ rocketship, took the lead for good on the ninth lap and cruised to the victory.

Second was Anthony Roth and Iowan Joel Bushore had an outstanding performance in his first appearance of 2016 at Lexington, finishing third.

Ageless wonder Egge was a dominant force as he persevered through multiple restarts to win the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod Feature. Jamey Kennicutt was the runner-up and Cole Egge was third.

Having another dream season, Nichols added to his collection of 400-plus IMCA Sunoco Stock Car career wins after working his way up from the sixth row. Casey Werkmeister and Casey Woken rounded out the top three.
