Wolfgram becomes first-time Modified winner at Boone

BOONE, Iowa (July 23) – Al Wolfgram grabbed his first career win in the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified division Saturday at Boone Speedway. Veteran Robert Avery held the lead on lap one but by lap two, it was Wolfgram snatching it away.  He soon had Jimmy Gustin coming at him on the top side fast and furiously. After several laps of side-by-side racing, Gustin momentarily took the top spot, only to have Wolfgram retake the lead by the time the next lap was scored. The chase continued with Gustin giving it his all in the attempt to get around the leader.  Hitting a rut in corner one with just a couple of laps remaining, sent Gustin backwards and gave Wolfgram breathing room on his road to the checkers. Point leader Mike Van Genderen came from the 12th starting spot and worked his way to a second-place finish. Chris Webb finished in third, fourth was Tony Cox, and Russ Dickerson came from 10th to round out the top five. Wayne Gifford won by a comfortable [Read More]

CORTLAND, N.Y. (July 17) – Another long haul from Michigan paid off for A.J. Ward. Ward won for the ninth time this season Friday at Tri-City Motor Speedway then ran fourth in the Saturday Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified show at Crystal Motor Speedway. Repeating the results of his trip to New York last season, when he topped the Northeast Shootout at Weedsport, Ward raced to the $1,000 to win checkers in the fifth installment of the 2016 series. “I’d never been to Skyline but had bounced some ideas off Will Ward,” he said. “He had a spot in the pits saved for us, which was good because the place was packed. We probably would have had to park on the road.” After running second in his heat and drawing the ninth starting spot for the 25-lap main event, Ward started making his way toward the [Read More]

It’s Bowers by a bumper at Heartland Park

TOPEKA, Kan. (July 17) – Heading into Sunday night’s Big Time Bail Bonds Sunday Showdown, there had been no repeat winners in three of the four IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing divisions at Heartland Park Topeka. As the season moved into its seventh event of the season, something had to give … or did it? The event of the night had to be the BillsBuilt Race Cars IMCA Modified feature. Jordan Grabouski moved quickly into the lead. He began to put some distance on the field. A yellow flag would spell trouble for the three-time feature winner as Grabouski pulled off the track with mechanical problems during a caution. This would hand the lead over to veteran Tom Charles. Charles, who started ninth on the field, kept the competition in check most of the night. That was until the last few laps. Steven Bowers Jr. began to eat into Charles’ lead late in the race. As they came to the white flag. Bowers was right on the back bumper of Charles. As the two worked [Read More]

Meyer continues winning ways at Raceway Park

By Bob Coney JEFFERSON, S.D. (July 17) – Raceway Park hosted a fast and action-packed night of IMCA racing action Sunday, with five divisions of cars taking to the track. In the KISS 107.1 FM IMCA Sport Compact division, Ramsey Meyer continued his dominance at the top of the field, extending his division point lead with his second straight win. Meyer took the lead coming out of the second turn on the fifth lap of the feature and never saw the rear of another car again. Luke Jackson took the runner-up spot followed by Don Tank and Tracy Raml. The CarQuest IMCA Hobby Stock feature belonged to Craig Clift from the drop of the green flag.  Clift found a gap in the group of traffic in front of him exiting the second turn on the opening lap and took control before they came back around to complete that opening lap. A late caution flew to bring out a green, white, checkered finish and negate the huge lead Clift had built up to that point. In the final [Read More]
