Morris wins again at I-37 By J.M. Hallas

PLEASANTON, Texas (May 18) – After earning his first-ever IMCA Modified feature win early last month, Chris Morris returned to the scene and picked up I-37 Speedway win number two, his third of the sea­son, Saturday night.  Morris was able to move up quickly and get early leaders Landon Bednarz and Jamie Campbell then motor away for the win.  Morris went around Bednarz on the high side then ducked under Campbell to snag the top spot on lap four. After a late caution, he pulled away as Rick Green and P.J. Egbert ran side-by-side second. This left Morris uncontested at the checkers while Green edged out Egbert for second.  “I knew it was going to be tough,” said Morris. “There’s quite a few good guys here. Hunt takes home Tri-City trophy

(May 17) – Friday night belonged to Mitchell Hunt.  Hunt won the Allstar Performance IMCA Modified main event at Tri-City Motor Speedway on a night that saw nearly 30 entries in the division.  Outside polesitter Garrett Bennett led the opening laps before Chris Cohoon took over the top spot. But Hunt marched his way to the front and muscled away the lead from Cohoon on lap eight and never looked back.  For Hunt, it was his first-ever Tri-City feature win. Opening night winner Matt Szecsodi, A.J. Ward, Jacob Flickinger and Brenten DeYoung secured top five finishes.

Crystal Modified checkers fly for May

Brody Bowser followed in second, Austin Wonch in third. Before the race program, the extremely popular annual Janet Zeigler  ‘Say Yes 2 Kids’ was held with drivers from all divisions giving rides to young fans.

Parade of different winners continues as Humphries tops Natural Bridge Sprint show

By Jim Haines NATURAL BRIDGE, Va. (May 18) – On the first summer-like day Tom Humphries figured out what he needed to get back to victory lane. Humphries topped the Saturday Virginia Sprint Series feature at Natural Bridge Speedway, becom­ing the fifth different IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car tour winner in as many events so far this season. Charlie Ware and Bill Rice started on the front row as the field went green with Rice out first. Rice tried to gap the field but Humphries stayed right on him. Jerald Harris made his way after the front two, first getting by Charlie Ware and then Daren Bo­lac. Humphries was by Rice and checking out as Harris closed, going low into second to take up the chase. The laps clicked off as Harris kept closing as they went under the white flag they were side-by-side. Patience pays off for defending champ at US 36

By Jacob Blair OSBORN, Mo. (May 17) – Steven Clancy showed why he holds the top spot in Karl Kustoms North­ern SportMod point standings at US 36 Raceway Friday night. The defending track champion waited through the early laps before picking up the pace and work­ing his way through the field. Midway through the race he got to the back bumper of race leader Coleman Browning. He made the move for the lead and picked up win number three this year. Browning finished se­cond, while Chris Wright finished third. Matt Lent looked strong early but faded to fourth and Randy Smith Jr. rounded out the top five.  Mike Nichols also showed patience as he worked his way through the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car field, then on the backside of halfway he moved around Mich Ross to take the lead.  While Nichols checked out to take the win, Ross and Connor Masoner battled for second. Shryock, Mills top Modified features at Kossuth County

By Greg Grabianowski  ALGONA, Iowa (May 16) – Night number two of the IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing point season at Kossuth County Speedway saw Kelly Shryock and Jeremy Mills win IMCA Modified features. Shryock came from the outside of the second row to earn the victory in the scheduled feature as pole sit­ter Austin Wolf was the runner-up. Winner-of the event rained out and made up from the previous week, Mills rounded out the top five in the scheduled race. Two features were on tap for the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods as well, with Doug Smith winning the scheduled race and Matt Looft the make-up. Also ending their nights in victory lane were Chad Palmer, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars; Bryce Sommerfeld, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks; and Oliver Monson, Mach-1 Sport Compacts.

Memorial Weekend date for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars at Chateau

LANSING, Minn. – IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars start their Memorial Weekend with a $1,000 to win date at Chateau Speedway.  The Friday, May 24 Toot’s Trucking Shootout feature pays a minimum of $75 to start and $50 tow money.  There is no entry fee and IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, EQ Cylinder Heads Northern Region and E3 Spark Plugs State points will be awarded at the draw/redraw show.  Pit gates open at 5 p.m., the grandstand opens at 5:30 p.m. and cutoff for the draw is 6:30 p.m. Hot laps are at 7:15 p.m. with racing to follow.  Grandstand admission is $10 for adults, $5 for juniors and free for ages five and under. Hagerstown hosts East Coast Nationals for IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars May 24-25

HAGERSTOWN, Md. – All roads lead to Hagerstown Speedway for the May 24-25 East Coast Nationals for IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars.  The event is co-sanctioned by the Virginia Sprint Series, Pennsylvania Sprint Series and Laurel Highlands Sprint Series, and also features Carolina Sprint Tour and Mid Atlantic Sprint Series competitors.  IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National and E3 Spark Plugs State points will be awarded. Two $300 to win, $150 to start features will be held if there are 70 or more entries on Friday.  Saturday’s main event pays $1,000 to win and $500 to start. Pit gates open at 4 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5 p.m. both days. Hot laps are at 7:30 p.m. with racing to follow. URSS heads to Dodge City Raceway Park this Saturday

By David Smith, Jr., OKTidbits DODGE CITY, Kan. – A busy stretch consisting of two weekends of racing for the Lucas Oil POWRi United Rebel Sprint Series presented by Mel Hambelton Ford Racing kicks off this com­ing Saturday night as the tour makes its second trip of the young 2019 race season to Dodge City Raceway Park and another battle with the Precise Racing Products DCRP Sprints. Three events have been completed thus far this season with Jake Martens of Fairview, Okla., picking up the season-opening victory at 81 Speedway back on April 5.  The next night the tour made its first trip of the season to Dodge City where track regular Luke Cranston of Ness City picked up the victory.  In the last event held back on May 4, Lincoln, Neb.’s Jason Martin claimed the checkered flag at Lincoln County Raceway in North Platte.  Brian Herbert will come into the night’s racing action as the point leader while two-time and defend­ing tour champion Zach Blurton is just four-points behind. Six more IMCA Modified drivers join Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot

VINTON, Iowa – Six more IMCA Modified drivers have put their names on the ballot for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. Ricky Alvarado was the opening night winner in the Wild West Tour at Aztec Speedway and Danny Wagner topped the Donnie Tilford Tribute at Placerville Speedway.  Johnny Whitman aced the “Red” race of 141 Speedway’s Red, White and Blue troika and Brendon Gemmill led the way to the checkers at Dodge City Raceway Park’s Modified Stampede.
