Nielsen thunders to rich Hobby checkers at Algona

ALGONA, Iowa (Aug. 5) – The track where Kelly Shryock earned his 500th career feature win became the site of his first IMCA Speedweek victory. Shryock checked out on his IMCA Modified foes Thursday evening, taking the $2,100 checkers at Kossuth County Speedway.  “We’ve been working pretty hard and everything has fallen into place for us at the right time,” Shryock said. “We have a had a good car on the flatter tracks. It’s been a great season for us.” He’d started fourth and drove by Nick Meyer and Zane DeVilbiss for the lead early in the 20-lap Denny Hovinga/Gary Harken Memorial main event at Algona. Never seriously challenged, Shryock won ahead of Jeremy Mills. BRITT, Iowa (July 28) – The game plan Joel Rust brought to Hancock County Speedway and the third installment of the Speed Shift TV Dirt Knights Tour for IMCA Modifieds played out to perfection Tuesday night. Rust led all but the opening circuit in the 25-lap contest, outrunning Ethan Braaksma and Jeremy Mills to the $1,000 checkers.  “We had a good draw, got to the lead quick and had to keep hitting our marks,” said Rust, who had taken the initial green flag from inside row two. “There were a lot of good cars here tonight and we got it done.” Rust was pulling away from the rest of the field when cautions came out on lap seven and again on lap 16, when his advantage over the second-running David Brown was nearly six seconds. By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (May 21) – It was opening night at Kossuth County Speedway May 21 without any specta­tors in the grandstands but that did not deter a grand total of 103 cars from dotting the pits at Al­gona.  While the IMCA Modified featured was a heated battle throughout, pole-sitter Cody Knecht led the whole way to earn the win. Just a caution flag on lap number five delayed the Whittemore driver trip into the win­ner’s circle. Austin Wolf and Jeremy Mills both challenged Knecht but he refused to give up the lead. Thirty-one IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars vied for spots in their main event grid. Devin Smith grabbed the early but Jeffrey Larson pulled even at midway and took the lead on the following lap.  Both Troy Swearington and Smith kept pressure on Larson but he went onto the win with Smith second and Swearington third.
