Whitman cashes in at Shawano

SHAWANO, Wis. (May 22) – A picture perfect night for racing brought a large crowd to the Legendary Half Mile Shawano Speedway and with added money in the IMCA Modified division it wassure to be a big night of racing. Thanks to Line x Extreme Coating there were 1,000 reasons to win the IMCA Modified feature. Normally a driver leading green to checkered for the win makes the recap a mundane thing to write but not on this night.  Johnny Whitman took the lead on the opening lap after starting third. Whitman began to power away from the field. With multiple feature wins this season, Mike Mullen was doing his best to entertain as he sliced his way to the front. By lap six, Mullen made his way to second from 10th. Mullen began to cut into the lead lap after lap and it looked like he would get by the Whitman machine on multiple occasions. Whitman was up to every challenge, however. A late-race caution gave Mullen one more shot but Whitman was up to [Read More]

Seidler, Sandberg keep winning at Mandan

By Becca Rattei  MANDAN, N.D. (May 21) – Marlyn Seidler and Ken Sandberg continued their winning ways Friday at Dacotah Speedway. Scott Gartner led from the pole in the IMCA Modified feature. As Gartner stretched his lead over second place Crist Pittenger, Seidler cracked the top five after starting eighth. Seidler passed Chris Welk for fourth and when Michael Hartigan got loose, Seidler slipped by for third place as well.  Wasting no time, Seidler quickly caught and passed Pittenger for second and set his sights on the leader. Once Seidler caught Gartner, he struggled to get around the young driver. Switching his line to the high side, Seidler found some extra speed to get around Gartner and take the lead on lap 10.  Seidler pulled away as Gartner had his hands full with a speedy Zach Frederick and Jeremy Keller. It was a three-car battle before Keller slipped by to take second. As the laps wound down, Seidler started to catch lapped traffic but it didn’t slow him down any as he pulled away to [Read More]

Career 100th IMCA Stock Car feature win also Vanover’s Eagle Raceway first

BEATRICE, Neb. – Kyle Vanover raced to two firsts and a 100th Saturday night. His first-ever victory at Eagle Raceway on May 22 made Vanover, from Beatrice, the first driver from Nebraska to win 100 career IMCA Sunoco Stock Car features. “This was probably the biggest goal for me,” he said following the milestone checkers. “It’s something we’ve been able to get done racing basically one night a week, plus some specials, since about 2013.” “There are a lot of places I’ve won at to put this together and that’s another thing that’s cool,” added Vanover, who also has W’s from weekly and special events in Iowa and Kansas on his resume. “We like to travel when we can and see how our stuff matches up racing against drivers at different tracks.” His stuff has matched up pretty well over 10-plus seasons: Wheeling the first Stock Car built by Brandon Johnson (Bigg Johnson Racecars), Vanover collected 13 feature wins in his rookie 2011 campaign and followed with a career-best 18 wins the next year.  He’s collected [Read More]

Berry among first-time winners at Boone

By Joyce Eisele BOONE, Iowa (May 22) – It was another weekly racing series night Saturday at the Boone Speedway, with 146 cars checking into the pits. The defending IMCA Modified national champion, Tom Berry Jr., was in the house tonight, wheeling a brand new car. He hadn’t lost a step from his successful season last year either, as he sailed home to another win. He had to fight around early race leader Russ Dickerson, taking command just before the halfway mark of the event, and then distanced himself from the pack as the checkers flew. It was a hard fought battle behind Berry, with Nick Roberts taking second over 14th place starter Cory Sauerman, Joel Bushore and Dickerson. Devin Smith put another notch on his winner’s belt by taking the checkers in the 20-lap IMCA Sunoco Stock Car main. The early leader was Troy Jerovetz but the eighth starting Smith was up to challenge with just a handful of laps in the books. Three laps later, Smith took command, set sail like a rocket on top of [Read More]

By Randy Pospishil sports@norfolkdailynews.com NORFOLK, Neb. (May 22) – Saturday’s IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature at Off Road Speedway became a battle between Neligh’s Wilkinson brothers, Kyle and Cameron.  Kyle moved quickly from the outside of the second row into the lead during the first lap and Cameron needed just four laps to find his brother’s rear bumper, even while navigating a group of cars often traveling three- and four-wide in the backstretch. “I knew he was there, I kept on seeing his nose,” Kyle said. “I was trying everything I could not to let him around me.” Cameron had his chances with four cautions during the race’s final 12 laps, but eventually followed Kyle to the checkered flag in second place. Meanwhile, Chad Bruns finished third.  “It’s a friendly deal, I guess, but we always want to beat one another,” Kyle said. “We don’t keep track of who has more wins. For me, every night is a different night. I just come down here and try to win.” “I wasn’t even going to come tonight, [Read More]
