Mach-1 signs five-year pact to sponsor IMCA Sport Compacts

ABBOTT, Texas – The company synonymous with IMCA’s Sport Compact division has cemented its title sponsorship status through 2018. Mach-1 Racing of Abbott, Texas, will provide a portion of $1,000 point funds to be paid to top 10 drivers in final national standings for the 4-cylinder class for the next five years. “Owner Gary Mach and Mach-1 have supported this division since the beginning of their sponsorship role with IMCA in 2009 and even more so since becoming title sponsor in 2011,” IMCA Marketing Director Kevin Yoder said. “That support has been instrumental in the growth of the division.” Sport Compact champions will be crowned at more than 40 tracks in nine states this season. Asbe earns first career feature win at I-35

By Greg Grabianowski MASON CITY, Iowa (July 20) – Sunday was a night to remember for Jason Asbe as he captured his first-ever feature win in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock division at I-35 Speedway. Not only had Asbe not finished in the top four in a feature this year, his best finish this summer was 11th and last week, he rolled his No. 9 car at the track. On Sunday, however, with duct tape holding his hood down and hardly a sponsor dotting his rig, he pulled his car into victory lane after the win. It was also a memorable weekend for Kyle Germundson. Nielsen is latest Modified winner at Hancock County

By Greg Grabianowski BRITT, Iowa (July 18) – For the 11th time at Hancock County Speedway this summer, there was a different winner in the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified division. Levi Nielsen was the latest winner, coming from outside row four to grab the July 18 victory. Jeremy Mills was second with Clint Hatlestad third, Jimmy Gustin was fourth and Jeff Dolphin rounded out the top five. Larry Portis has had a summer of bad luck but earned his first IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature win of the season. Ben Kraus captured his second Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod checkers of the year, coming from the inside of the fourth row to accomplish the feat. Kyle Ricke also became a two-time winner, in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. Megan Lappegaard topped the Mach-1 Sport Compacts field to grab her second feature win of the year at Hancock County.

Hughes makes it six straight at Southern Iowa

By Jeremy Fox OSKALOOSA, Iowa (July 23) – Mike Hughes continued his streak with his sixth straight Pepsi Cola Mahaska Bottling IMCA Hobby Stock feature win at Southern Iowa Speedway Wednesday night. Steve Allen started the outside front row in the 15-lapper and led early with Danny Thrasher right behind. Allen held off all challenges until the last set of turns when Hughes made his move to the front for his sixth straight and 10th local win of the season. Scott Dickey was the Musco Lighting IMCA Modified winner. Cayden Carter held off Zach VanderBeek for his fourth straight and season-sixth IMCA Sunoco Stock Car victory at Osky. Top KBOE Radio IMCA Northern SportMod honors went to Curtis VanDerWal while Bill Whalen scored his third straight and season-eighth Mach-1 Sport Compact main event win.

IMCA drivers in five divisions get Flow Design awards

WELLINGTON, Kan. – National point standings for five IMCA divisions determine recipient of product or certificate awards from Flow Design. The Wellington, Kan., manufacturer gives carburetor spacers to first through fifth place finishers in the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified, IMCA Late Model, IMCA Sunoco Stock Car, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod and Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center Southern SportMod divisions. Sixth through 10th place drivers in national standings for the same divisions get certificates good for 50 percent off the purchase of a carb spacer. DeBaere denies Bruns Memorial challengers

SLAYTON, Minn. (July 18) – Round two of the Dominick Bruns Memorial Challenge Cup Chase Friday at Slayton went to Murray County Speedway regular Kevin DeBaere. DeBaere led all 18 laps after starting the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature outside Shaun Madden on the front row. The victory, DeBaere’s second this season at Slayton, paid $1,000. Derek Green, Chris Palsrok, Elijah Zevenbergen and Dan Veenstra rounded out the top five. Runner-up in the series last season, DeBaere had Derek Green on his back bumper most of the way. Stephenville Starter starts new role as title sponsor of Hobby Stock Race of Champions

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Stephenville Starter has a new role this September on dirt track racing’s biggest stage. The Stephenville, Texas, manufacturer is the new title sponsor of the Hobby Stock Race of Champions, to be held Sept. 6 during the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s at Boone Speedway. Ten drivers qualify for that race. Stephenville Starter provides a portion of the purse. This is the sixth year Stephenville Starter has been a marketing partner with IMCA. Cottage Grove reschedules Wild West Modified Series to Thursday

By Ben Deatherage COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (July 23) – The races for Wednesday, July 23rd at Cottage Grove Speedway have been canceled due to weather. A storm that recently came through soaked the pit area as well as the race track which prevented any action taking place. However, the race has been rescheduled for Thursday, July 24 and will consist of the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds and hornets. The Wild West Modified Series feature pays $1,000 to win. Front gates open at 4 p.m. and racing starts at approximately 6:45 p.m.

Format is familiar, fine tuning continues for Super Nationals

BOONE, Iowa (July 23) – Much of the upcoming IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s will transpire in a format already familiar to drivers, fans in the grandstand and XSAN viewers around the world. You’ll have to be at Boone Speedway from Sept. 1-6 for the 32nd annual version of America’s Racin’ Vacation to see some of what’s different, however. “There is always a need to fine tune but the format and XSAN coverage will be very similar to last year’s Super Nationals,” IMCA Vice President of Operations Brett Root said. “XSAN is doing some very exciting things to extend the reach of the event.” Nearly 300 drivers from 21 states and Canada have already pre-entered and/or submitted pit stall applications. Great Basin dates next for EQ Wild West Tour

ELY, Nev. (July 23) – Great Basin Raceway is the next destination for the EQ Cylinder Heads Wild West Tour. Traveling IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds race for $1,000 to win in their Friday, July 25 and Saturday, July 26 features at Ely. Both events are qualifiers for the 2015 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Larry Shaw Racing Western Region, Allstar Performance State and local track points will be awarded each night. Pit gates will be open all day; the grandstand opens and hot laps start at 5 p.m. Racing begins at 6:30 p.m. Spectator admission is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and students, $8 for kids 12 and under and free for youngsters five and under.
