Another young driver wins first feature at Off Road

By Randy Pospishil NORFOLK, Neb. (Aug. 8) – A week after Gage Koch, a junior at Norfolk Catholic High School, won his first feature in the Hobby Stock division at Off Road Speedway, Joey Haase – who will be entering his junior year at Winside High School this fall – earned his first win in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod division Saturday night. The two have crossed paths on a racetrack before as competitors for two seasons in the now-defunct junior hornet class at Riviera Raceway a few years ago. Haase won the division title in their first year of racing, while Koch won the second year. Haase took advantage of his outside second row starting position along with the race’s second caution and restart to obtain the lead, then held off pursuer Justin Addison for the final 13 laps of the 18-lap race. “These last few weeks I’ve had a lot of bad luck. We went through two transmissions in the last two nights and seven DNFs,” Haase said. “It’s been a bad year [Read More]

By Greg Soukup EAGLE, Neb. (Aug. 8) – Anthony Roth flipped seven times in his previous visit to Eagle Raceway. His latest start there proved unforgettable for a better reason, as Roth won the NAPA IMCA Modified main event. “This was great, sweeping my heat and the feature. It sure was better than the last time we were here, flipping seven times,” said Roth, who’d drawn the outside row one start. “I went into the first corner like there was no tomorrow.” Eric Cronin was a first-time Sam’s Club IMCA Sport Compact winner. Mike Boston raced to his first RaceSaver IMCA Sprint Car checkers of the season. Ward wins in completion of rain-interrupted Empire State Series race at I-88

AFTON, N.Y. (Aug. 7) – Not quite two months after taking the initial green flag, Will Ward took the checkers at I-88 Speedway’s rescheduled Empire State Series show. He’d started sixth when action resumed from the June 12 event halted with eight laps in the book. The Friday night feature was Ward’s Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified tour career first and came on his home track, as well as two days before his birthday. “I’d run second in the series race here the Friday before so I knew we were close,” said Ward said. “I got elected to the Fast Shafts All-Star invitational, then we got our first win at Afton. How much better could it possibly get?” Ward used the lower line in getting to second, then ran side-by-side with Tyler Stoddard for a couple circuits before taking over in front. The final caution came out with two laps to go but Ward pulled ahead to beat Stoddard, Matt Cole, point leader Eddie Sites and previous race winner James Cornell across the stripe. Kilgore dominates 141’s Red, White and Blue Series

By Greg Aregoni FRANCIS Creek, Wis. (Aug. 8) – Shawn Kilgore has earned accolades in his racing career and as of Saturday he can add Red, White and Blue Series champion to the list. Kilgore picked up the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified win in the finale of the series. He earned two victories and a second place finish in the three-race swing. Kilgore receives a crate motor from Gandrud Chevrolet for his efforts. He also won $1,210 for his Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying victory. What proved to be the race-winning move was at the drop of the green flag. Kilgore made quick work of the field as he jetted from his outside front row starting spot and into the lead. Kilgore built up a straightaway advantage in just three laps. Johnny Whitman made his way from fifth to second in those same three laps but had a straightaway deficit to overcome. Whitman searched the whole speedway trying to catch the leader as Kilgore entered lapped traffic on lap nine. Kilgore had to [Read More]

Shryock scores abbreviated All Star Night win at Britt

BRITT, Iowa (Aug. 8) – The rainbow stretching over the backstretch at Hancock County Speedway led Kelly Shryock to an $8,800 jackpot. After starting deep in the field in Thursday and Friday features at Britt, Shryock led every lap of Saturday’s Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified All Star Night feature shortened from 50 to 36 circuits because of rain and slick track conditions. Mark Elliott started ninth and found the fastest line up top. He had closed on Shryock before the sudden checkers flew. Kyle Brown, Benji LaCrosse and Hunter Marriott followed the front pair across the stripe. Shryock earned $4,000 for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying win, plus $2,800 in lap money and a $2,000 bonus for having raced at least eight times previously this season at Hancock County. “We’ve been trying to win here all year and finally got it done on a big night,” said Shryock, who agreed with the decision by track officials to call the race early. “It was a handful out there. Ruter reels in LaCrosse for Night of 10,000 Stars honors

BRITT, Iowa (Aug. 7) – The stars aligned Friday night at Hancock County Speedway for Ryan Ruter. Ruter passed Benji LaCrosse with 10 laps left in the Night of 10,000 Stars main event for Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds, then stayed in front to the finish for a $9,000 payday. LaCrosse, the 2013 race winner and last year’s runner-up, led most of the 50-lapper before getting caught behind a lapped car in the second set of turns. Ruter shot to the lower line for the lead, then pulled away in traffic. “Benji had about a half a straightaway lead when I saw him move up. I followed him to the higher line and started making up ground,” said Ruter, who’d run second to another Wisconsin hotshoe, Mike Mullen, in Thursday’s Night of 1,000 Stars at Britt. “It wasn’t that Benji made a mistake. He was just in the wrong lane at the wrong time,” Ruter continued. “I had an opportunity and I capitalized on it.” Forty cars representing nine states started the feature, which saw [Read More]

Mullen cashes in at Night of 1,000 Stars

BRITT, Iowa (Aug. 6) – Another big Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified event ended with Mike Mullen’s name on the Pay To The Order Of line of another big check. Including lap money, the victory was worth $4,750 to Mullen. He’d recently cashed in to the tune of $10,000 at 141 Speedway’s Clash at the Creek. “I laid back the first 10 laps or so and thought the bottom would be the place to be,” said Mullen, new to the ballot for the 2016 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. “About 20 laps in I decided the high side was where I needed to be with my car.” Ryan Ruter raced from 21st starting to second, pulling to Mullen’s back bumper before finishing three car lengths off the pace.
