Final point races of 2014 this weekend

VINTON, Iowa – Final point races of the 2014 IMCA weekly point season are this weekend, Sept. 26-28. Champions and rookies of the year for eight divisions will be announced as soon as possible after bonus points are figured. All standings for the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified, IMCA Eagle Motorsports RaceSaver Sprint Car, IMCA Sunoco Stock Car, Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center Southern SportMod, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock and Mach-1 Sport Compact classes, as well as West Coast Super Stocks become official at noon CST on Monday, Oct. 27. The IMCA national awards banquet will be Saturday, Nov. 29 at the Cornhusker Hotel in Lincoln, Neb. Tickets will be $35. Banquet reservations should be made by Nov. 20, by mail or by calling the IMCA home office at 319 472-2201.

IMCA Modifieds headline Sept. 27 Fall Challenge at Hamilton County

WEBSTER CITY, Iowa – Hamilton County Speedway’s Saturday, Sept. 27 Fall Chal­lenge will pay $1,000 to the winner of the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified main event. That feature is a qualifier for the 2015 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot and pays a minimum of $125 to start. Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods run for $750 to win, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks for $500 to win and Mach-1 Sport Compacts for $250 to win. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, regional and Allstar Performance State points are at stake for the Modifieds and Hobby Stocks. Northern SportMods and Sport Compacts vie for na­tional and state points. Entry fees of $60 for the Modifieds, $40 for Northern SportMods and $30 for Hobby Stocks and Sport Compacts include the driver’s pit pass. Final 2014 checkers fly at Jackson for Redline Racing Parts North Star Series

JACKSON, Minn. (Sept. 25) – IMCA’s Redline Racing Parts North Star Series wraps up its fourth season during the 36th annual Jackson Nationals program on Saturday, Sept. 27. The IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature is also part of the Doug Cellan Memorial and pays $1,750 to win. Touring IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks all race for $1,500 to win; the Modified feature is a qualifier for the 2015 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. First place in the Mach-1 Sport Compact main event is good for $500. Gemmill cashes in at Thunder On The Hill

By Larry Lowrey Jr. MAYETTA, Kan. (Sept. 19) – Troy Gemmill endorsed a check for $2,000 after winning the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature at Thunder Hill Speedway’s signature special. After getting the lead back from 12th starting Jordan Grabouski in traffic, Gemmill stretched the field out as the 30-lapThunder On The Hill main event wound down. A great battle for top five spots went on behind Gemmill. Cory Wray ended up in the runner-up spot with a solid run while Johnny Saathoff finished third. Scott Drake fell back and then battled his way back up to fourth and rounding out the top five was Clay Hale. Berry makes history with Jamestown Stampede IMCA checkers

JAMESTOWN, N.D. (Sept. 20) – Hank Berry made history and $2,000 when IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds made their debut at Jamestown Speedway’s 43rd annual Stock Car Stampede special. The veteran from Montana worked his way up from the ninth starting spot to win Saturday’s 25-lap main event, a qualifier for the 2015 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. “This is a pretty prestigious event. I’ve been to 30 or so of them, won the Late Model feature twice and now the Modified feature three times,” said Berry. “It was neat to win the inaugural IMCA race at the Stampede. Four IMCA divisions run this weekend at Sherman County Flatlander

GOODLAND, Kan. – A pair of $2,000 to win IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified main events headline Sherman County Speedway’s 25th an­nual Flatlander Fall Classic special on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 26 and 27. Both features are qualifying races for the 2015 Fast Shafts All-Star In­vita­tional ballot and pay a minimum of $125 to start. BEATRICE, Neb. – Beatrice Speedway puts the wraps on its 2014 season with the Friday and Saturday, Sept. 26 and 27 September Fest special. Daughter’s draw puts Smith in right spot to win Empire State Series feature at Skyline

CORTLAND, N.Y. (Sept. 20) – Gary Smith told daughter Danielle before she drew for him that he’d like to start Saturday’s Friesen Chevrolet Empire State Series feature on the front row, and preferably on the outside. Danielle obliged and Smith promptly led all 25 laps in winning for the first time of his career in the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified tour at Skyline Raceway. The checkers were good for $400. Keith Lamphere challenged but had to settle for second as Smith stayed strong following a multitude of restarts. Running the high side right to the last lap, Smith switched to the bottom line when the race ended green, white, checkered. Ed Turnbull tops IMCA Modifieds at Estevan’s Race For Life

ESTEVAN, Sask. (Sept. 21) – Ed Turnbull banked $3,000 after a mistake-free run to the checkers in Sunday’s Race For Life main event for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds at Estevan Motor Speedway. Turnbull started the 25-lapper from the sixth spot and passed Jett Big Eagle and then Mason Big Eagle for the lead on lap 11. He led to the finish, putting some distance on Mason Big Eagle in the late going. Steven Pfeifer, Travis Hagen and Jett Big Eagle completed the top five. “Late in the race I met lapped traffic in my line and went lower to get by,” Turnbull said. “Not know­ing how far Mason was behind me, I figured one mistake and the party would be over. Thornton, Noll top Canyon’s Desert Classic main events

By Lonnie Wheatley PEORIA, Ariz. (Sept. 19-20) – Ricky Thornton Jr. and Jason Noll were $1,500 IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature winners at Canyon Speedway Park’s Desert Classic. Thornton’s 13th win of the year at Canyon came on Friday, opening night of the 26th annual special. Noll became a 2015 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational candidate when he collected the Saturday checkers. Chased to the line by ninth-starter George Fronsman, Thornton had drawn the outside front row spot on the grid for Friday’s feature. Mike Strobl raced from 19th to take the show position. Mark Stewart and Jason Noll rounded out the top five. Noll put a stop to Thornton’s CSP domination on night two. He raced from the third position to snare his first CSP feature win since topping the Winter Classic opener on Jan. 24.
