Dirt Defender awards new for IMCA Stock Car drivers

RED OAK, Texas – A Texas company already familiar to IMCA drivers around the country is new this season to the sanctioning body’s sponsorship ranks. Dirt Defender of Red Oak joins the national decal program for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars. The Billy Vest and Dennis Bissonnette-owned company gives a free pair of vented wheel covers to the champion and rookie of the year in each region, as well as $25 gift certificates to a top five finisher at designated specials for the full-bodied class. “Dennis and I always had stacks of wheel covers that fit different. 2016 national de­cal placement program announced for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars

VINTON, Iowa – The final portion of IMCA’s 2016 national decal program have been announced, with information released for the Stock Car division. Dirt Defender has signed on as part of that program, which also includes EngineQuest – title sponsor for both Northern and Southern regions – Speedway Motors, Intercomp, Holley, MSD, Sunoco and Fast Shafts. “The Stock Car division was the last to be announced because we wanted to confirm a couple of agreements and make sure we got Dirt Defender on board,” IMCA Marketing Director Kevin Yoder said. “Now that we have those solidified we’ll get the decals distributed before the majority of our tracks open weekly.” Drivers must provide proof of decal placement to become eligible for national and regional point fund shares. Car photos can be mailed to Yoder at the IMCA home office or emailed to kyoder@imca.com. Decal packets, which also include applicable contingency sign-up forms, are being mailed beginning this month to drivers who have purchased 2016 licenses. Deadline for submitting car photos and contingency forms is Aug. 1.

Simmons Promotions to host March 26 race car show

FARLEY, Iowa ­­– Simmons Promotions has set Saturday, March 26 as the day to kick off the 2016 race season with its very popular pre-season race car show. The Palace Ballroom, located on the Farley Speedway grounds on the west edge of Farley, will be the site. Fans are invited to enjoy the warm comfort inside the Palace which offers plenty of space for the drivers to display their new race cars ready for competition. This opportunity allows the drivers a great opportunity for sponsor recognition. Trophies will be awarded this year courtesy of Callahan Construction of Dubuque. Larry Shaw returns as title sponsor for IMCA Western Region

BATESVILLE, Ark. – Larry Shaw Race Cars reaches one IMCA sponsorship milestone and nears another in 2016. The Batesville, Ark., chassis builder returns for a fifth season as title sponsor of IMCA’s Western region for Modifieds. Shaw will provide a portion of the $6,000 point fund to be paid to top 10 drivers in official standings for the region that includes tracks in Arizona, California, western Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, northern New Mexico, Oregon, Utah and Wyoming. Drivers in the region must display two Larry Shaw Racing decals on their race car to be eligible for point fund shares. The champion earns $2,500, with $1,250 for second, $625 for third, $325 for fourth and $300 for fifth. Parker now carrying the keys to Merced Speedway 

MERCED, Calif. – Ed Parker now carries the keys to the track he’s already been going to forever. The long-time fan and former driver and owner is the new promoter of Merced Speedway. Both Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods will run Saturdays at the 1/3-mile clay oval beginning April 2. “I want to get my feet wet, get some races in and make this a great place for the racers,” said Parker, who took charge at Merced in February. “Right now, everything is baby steps. McCOOL JUNCTION, Neb. – Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds will race for a cool $1,000 to win at this weekend’s Mike Chapin Memorial Spring Thaw at newly-sanctioned Junction Motor Speedway. Qualifying for the Modified, IMCA Sunoco Stock Car, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod and Mach-1 Sport Compacts is Saturday, March 19. $2,000 is top Modified prize at Tri-State Kegger special

POCOLA, Okla. – Top prize for the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds is $2,000 at Tri-State Speedway’s 37th annual Cecil Harlan Memorial Kegger this Friday and Saturday, March 18 and 19. Six states were represented by Modifieds entered at last year’s Kegger and an even bigger field is expected for the 2016 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying event, which pays a minimum of $200 to start. SportMods race for $1,000 to win and $100 to start while first place in the Stock Car feature pays $800, with $80 to start. Total purse for the event is more than $29,000. ‘Old-school IMCA guy’ named Michigan state tech inspector 

ORLEANS, Mich. – A self-described “old-school IMCA guy” is IMCA’s new state tech inspector for Michigan. Terry Williams will alternate Fridays working with tech inspection crews at Tri-City Motor Speedway and newly re-sanctioned I-96 Speedway. He’ll be on the job Saturdays at Crystal Motor Speedway, where he’s teched since 2004. “This is my 25th year associated with IMCA and I’ve loved every minute of it,” said Williams, who raced at both I-96 and Crystal during his own career. “I raced an IMCA Modified for seven years until 1998 and began working the next year at I-96.” “(Promoter) Ron Flinn at Crystal asked me to fill in and finish out the season for him in 2004 and I’ve been there ever since,” he continued. “Ron and I hit it off and I stayed.
