IMCA Atomicwraps.com Empire State Series opens April 16 at Five Mile Point

KIRKWOOD, N.Y. – Although the first green flag for the 15th annual Atomicwraps.com Empire State Series has been delayed, more money will be up for grabs when action gets underway Saturday, April 16 at Five Mile Point Speedway. The winner’s share for touring Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds has been upped from $400 to $500. The feature pays a minimum of $100 to start in the lidlifter at Kirkwood. Originally scheduled for this Sunday, the series opener was postponed due to weather. Pit gates open at 3 p.m. April 16 and the grandstand opens at 4 p.m. Hot laps are set for 5:15 p.m. with the first heat at 6 p.m. There is no entry fee. Pit passes are $35. Spectator admission is $20 for adults, $16 for seniors 65 and over, $10 for students ages 13-17 and free for kids 12 and under. The April 16 event will also be for local track points. Marshalltown, Boone, Vinton host rescheduled IMCA Frostbusters this weekend

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa – A trio of rescheduled Frostbuster specials are on the schedule for this weekend, each boasting $1,000 to win feature races for Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds. IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks are also on the card for Frostbusters Friday, April 8 at Marshalltown Speedway; Saturday, April 9 at Boone Speedway; and Sunday, April 10 at Benton County Speedway in Vinton. Defending series champion takes Bay Area Tour win at Baker

BAKER, Fla. (April 2) – Jason Barnhill had to feel good about the finish of Saturday’s Bay Area Emerald Coast Tour main event at Northwest Florida Speedway, as a driver as well as a car owner. The defending Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified series champion passed teammate Jamie Brooks, who was also driving a Barnhill-owned ride, on the fifth lap and led to the finish of the caution-slowed feature at Baker. Brooks had started inside Barnhill on the front row and surrendered the front spot in traffic. Greg Hopkins pressured Barnhill the last two circuits before getting too high on the final turn and falling out of contention. “We had a good side-by-side race the last few laps,” Barnhill said. “I’d broke leading my last timeout so it was nice to win this one.” Thumper Grice, Jimmy McDaniel and Hopkins completed the top five. Hogan Memorial will be July 3 at Benton County Speedway

VINTON, Iowa – The 22nd annual Hogan Memorial will be held Sunday, July 3 at Benton County Speedway. Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds headline the holiday weekend special in Vinton. The Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot-qualifying feature pays a minimum of $1,250 to win, with lap money, a halfway leader bonus and hard charger awards making for a potential payday of more than $4,000. Two hundred and fifty dollars will be paid to take the green and Modified heat winners earn $100. All regular weekly divisions will be on the program. Dodge City Modified Stampede this Saturday

Oberlin’s David Murray Jr., a four-time IMCA national champion, has topped three of four previous Dodge City Modified Stampede features including a sweep of both nights of the inaugural edition in 2013 and then another win in last year’s version. Past track champion Brendon Gemmill stands as the only other driver to reach Modified Stampede victory lane with a 2014 triumph. Russell races to $1,000 Nolan Wren Memorial payday

WILLIS, Texas (April 2) – A former mini sprint racer took home the maximum share of the purse from Saturday’s Nolan Wren Memorial. Tyler Russell held off Jeb Sessums for the $1,000 checkers at Gator Motorplex. The Southern United Sprints victory was the career first in any class at Willis for Russell. “This was definitely the biggest win I’ve ever had,” the third-year IMCA EMI RaceSaver Sprint Car pilot said. “It was an exciting race to win. It was such a great feeling. I was definitely overwhelmed.” Early leader Kent Lewis Sr., Matt Migl and Trey Schmidt rounded out the top five. Russell started outside row one in the 20-lap main event and headed pursuit of Lewis, chasing the leader into lapped traffic before midway. Another Kansas special, another sweep for Grabouski

(April 1-2) – Another early-season special in Kansas ended with Jordan Grabouski headed home to Nebraska with two more Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature wins and a pair of $1,000 checks. Grabouski swept Friday and Saturday feature events at Salina Speedway’s DirtFest, leading start to finish in 25-lap headliners both nights. “We have drawn good and the car has been really good,” said Grabouski, also the winner both nights at RPM Speedway’s Sunflower Classic the weekend before. ”We’ve had a lot of fun the last couple weekends. OSKALOOSA, Iowa – First weekly points races of the 2016 season are on the ticket Wednesday, April 6 at Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa and Friday, April 8 at Lee County Speedway in Donnellson. Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified, IMCA Sunoco Stock Car, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod and Mach-1 Sport Compact drivers get free admission and there is no entry fee for the lidlifter at Osky. Hot laps are at 7 p.m. and racing starts at 7:30 p.m. Drivers in the sanctioned Modified, Stock Car, Northern SportMod and Sport Compact divisions get in for half-price at Donnellson.
