By Tom Berg Dakota Classic Modified Tour: From a Dream to A Premier National Tour In 1990 John Gartner had a vision about having a series of dirt-track racing during the summer in North Dakota, similar to Speedweeks in Florida during the week of the Daytona 500 each February. Out of that vision was born the Dakota Classic Modified Tour. Some thought the idea was crazy. As it turns out, Gartner’s tour dream was far from crazy; it has blossomed into the largest Modified touring series in the United States. Sponsored by Kupper Chevrolet of Mandan, the Dakota Classic Modified Tour is entering its 28th year in 2017 and begins on Saturday, July 8 at Jamestown Speedway in Jamestown. Dakota Tour online entries close on Thursday

JAMESTOWN, N.D. – Online entries close Thursday, July 6 for the 28th annual Kupper Chevrolet Dakota Classic Modified Tour. Early entries for the July 8-13 tour are already in hand from a record 94 IMCA Modified and 41 IMCA Sunoco Stock Car drivers. Seventeen states and Canada are already represented in pre-registration numbers. The tour starts on Saturday, July 8 at the Statesman County Fairgrounds Jamestown Speedway track in Jamestown. From there the Tour goes to Nodak Speedway on the North Dakota State Fairgrounds in Minot on Sunday, July 9. Round three takes the tour north of the border to Estevan, Sask., Motor Speedway on Monday, July 10. The tour’s next stop is Tuesday, July 11 at Williston Basin Speedway, located at the Upper Missouri Fairgrounds. Round number five is in Dickinson and Southwest Speedway on Wednesday, July 12. Edelbrock rewards claim engine drivers in five IMCA divisions

TORRANCE, Calif. – IMCA drivers in five divisions competing with claim engines share a wealth of product and product certificate awards to be given by Edelbrock. The Torrance, Calif., company is in its 19th season as an IMCA sponsor. Edelbrock awards go to IMCA Modified, IMCA Sunoco Stock Car, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod and Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center Southern SportMod drivers. Highest finishing claim drivers in point standings for each of the five Modified regions receive 2975 Victor Jr. intakes. Top drivers in the two Stock Car regions receive Edelbrock 2701, 7121 or 2176 intakes. And the highest finishing claim engine drivers in both Hobby Stock regions and in national Northern SportMod and Southern SportMod points have a choice between 2701 Chevrolet, 7121 Ford or 2176 Chrysler intakes. IMCA Hobby Stock Showdown set for Friday at Hancock County

BRITT, Iowa – Hancock County Speedway hosts the $1,000 to win Friday, July 7 IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock Showdown. A minimum of $100 will be paid to start and all other regular weekly divisions will be on the program. The Showdown will be broadcast on IMCATV. Pit gates open at 5:30 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 6 p.m. Racing follows 7 p.m. hot laps. Grandstand admission is $10 for adults, $5 for students, seniors and veterans, and free for kids 12 and under. Pit passes are $25. KSE begins third decade of IMCA sponsorship

WHITE HOUSE, Tenn. – KSE Racing Products has begun its third decade of IMCA sponsorship with an awards program benefitting drivers in three divisions. The high-performance parts manufacturer out of White House, Tenn., has renewed the awards based on national point standings and results of special events for IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Late Models and IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars. The national Modified champion receives a KSE TandemX power steering/fuel pump. Second through fifth place finishers in the national standings each get $200 product certificates while sixth through 10th place drivers receive $100 product certificates. Rookies of the year in each of the five Modified regions receive a 700 series steering box. A Gen2 power steering gear goes to the national Sprint Car champion. Second through 10th place drivers in national standings for that division receive $100 product certificates. And designated place finishers at 50 special events for Modifieds, Late Models and Sprint Cars earn $100 product certificates. Taylor becomes first Nevada driver to win Wild West IMCA Modified Shootout feature

By Ben Deatherage LEBANON, Ore. (June 30) – Round seven of the Wild West IMCA Modified Shootout saw a sixth different feature winner. Wade Taylor became the first Nevada driver to win a series event and put his name on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot as well Friday at Willamette Speedway. Taylor drew the pole and had the field covered from the start of the 35-lap main event. He took the $1,000 checkers ahead of Jesse Williamson and Bricen James. Cory Sample and John Campos rounded out the top five. Taylor is the 19th different driver to win a tour feature and the sixth different winner in series history at Willamette. Hurst, Merfeld are big winners at Dubuque

By Jerry Mackey DUBUQUE, Iowa (July 2) – A large crowd turned out for the Sunday night racing action as the Independence Day Holiday kicked into gear with plenty of exciting wheel to wheel action. The final race of the night featured the Out-Pace Racing Products IMCA Late Models and Jeremiah Hurst proved to be a man on a mission as he quickly worked to the front from his eighth starting position. Hurst broke out to an early lead and was well ahead of the pack when a caution on lap 17 brought the field to his rear bumper. Justin Kay was looking to repeat last week’s heroics with a late-race run to the win but Hurst proved to be up to the challenge taking a two car length win over Kay. Marriott gets confidence boost, top check at Hogan Memorial

VINTON, Iowa (July 2) – It sounds hard to believe, but even Hunter Marriott needs a confidence booster once in a while. He got that, and a check for $3,433 Sunday night at Benton County Speedway. The 15th starting Marriott took the lead 29 laps into the 50-lap Hogan Memorial main event for IMCA Modifieds, then went to the higher line and held off fellow hard charger Tyler Droste for the victory. “I never count myself out. You always have the chance to win. You’ve just got to keep your head up and keep digging,” said Marriott, who had qualified through his ‘B’ feature. “I went out there, hit my marks and when I had a chance to get the lead, I took it.” Droste had started 13th.
