Grabouski gets record eighth Spring Nationals win on opening night at Beatrice

BEATRICE, Neb. (March 9) – The eighth time was every bit as good as the first Thursday night for Jordan Grabouski. Grabouski won the opening night IMCA Modified feature at his hometown Beatrice Speedway’s Spring Nationals for a record eighth time, earning $2,500. Kyle Brown, 13th starting Hunter Marriott, Jacob Murray and hard charger Dylan Smith rounded out the top five. Smith, a Spring Nationals winner in 2013, had started 18th. Grabouski started inside the second row, passing Brown and Anthony Roth on his way to the front early on. He wasn’t challenged as the 30-lapper wound down. “We had a lot of work to do before tonight. We’ve got a brand new GRT and being able to win tonight made all the late nights in the shop worth it,” said Grabouski, the defending and two-time IMCA national champion and already a 2017 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot candidate. “I used to go to Spring Nationals every year when I was growing up and as a kid can remember drivers coming from all over to race [Read More]

Sidebiter Chassis has new building, title sponsorship role of IMCA’s North Central Region

CLEAR LAKE, Iowa – A chassis builder nestled in the heart of the region is the new title sponsor for IMCA’s North Central Region for Modifieds. Sidebiter Chassis, owned by long-time driver Ryan Ruter, steps up to the new sponsorship role and provides part of the $6,000 point fund to be paid to top 10 drivers in the region that includes tracks in Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, Saskatchewan, South Dakota and Wisconsin. “This is something we’ve been interested in doing for a number of years. When we got the opportunity to become a regional title sponsor, we jumped on it,” Ruter said. “It’s a great way for us to support IMCA racers driving all makes of chassis while getting our name out more.” Sidebiter is recently relocated from a shop at Ruter’s Kanawha farm home to a 100×100 square foot building in Clear Lake. The newly-constructed facility includes a showroom, shock repair center and parts warehouse as well as assembly and custom fabrication areas. “There’s room to expand here in the next five years. Montezuma County looks forward to solid car counts with return to IMCA

CORTEZ, Colo. – Kevin Faddis saw bigger grandstand numbers when he focused on promoting events at Montezuma County Fairgrounds Speedway last season. With the return of IMCA sanctioning, he’s confident of much better car count numbers in 2017. IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and IMCA SportMods return to the 3/8-mile oval at Cortez this season with half a dozen Friday-Saturday doubleheaders on the initial schedule. All three divisions have a lengthy history at Montezuma County. The Modifieds and Stocks were last sanctioned in 2015, the SportMods in 2014. “Last year, we went USRA after Aztec Speedway (an hour and a half to the southwest in New Mexico) sanctioned with them and it killed our Modified class,” Faddis said. “Guys didn’t want to run the high-dollar stuff. We decided we didn’t care what Aztec did, we were going back to IMCA.” That announcement was greeted enthusiastically by home state drivers as well as those looking to do some traveling this summer. “My wife Juanita and I being former IMCA racers ourselves, we like that the [Read More]

IMCA Modifieds begin hunt for Canyon Speedway Park title

By Tony Steele PEORIA, Ariz. – Through most of the winter racing at Canyon Speedway Park, it was the out-of-towners flexing their muscles in the premier IMCA Modified division. Jason Wolla swept both Winter Challenge events while Spencer Wilson and Hunter Marriott split victories during the Arizona Modified Tour. Marriott took another win in the preliminary night of the Desert Classic until finally a local in Chaz Baca Jr. brought home a win for the Arizona boys as he took home $3,000 in the 40-lap Desert Classic feature. One of the largest storylines of the year at CSP will begin on Saturday, March 11 as the IMCA Modifieds start their season-long journey toward the crowning of a champion. Last year’s title went to Mike Strobl, who topped the standings over Nate Warren by 28 points. Steve Stultz was third at the end of the season with Jay Foster ending the year in fourth and Guy Norton rounded out the top five.
