Thornton cashes in at Dacotah Legendary

By Mike Spieker MANDAN, N.D. (July 13) – For the third consecutive year, the Legendary 50 at Dacotah Speedway brought the Kupper Chevrolet Dakota Classic IMCA Modified Tour week to a close. And for the second time in those three years, the driver taking home the big check – this time $10,003 – following the 33-car, 50-lap main event was Ricky Thornton Jr. Thornton backed up his inaugural Legendary 50 win Friday night, leading the final 35 trips around the high-banked, 3/8-mile clay oval. “I knew I was starting around some pretty fast cars. I felt confident with my car and was ready to get the race started,” said Thornton, who took the initial green from the eighth spot. “We were good running the bottom the night before and that was where I wanted to run again.” Eddie Belec, Jason Wolla and Shawn Strand made up the front row of the three-wide start as the field of 11 rows charged to the green flag. IMCA Modifieds chase $3,000 check at I-30’s Ed Jordan Memorial

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – A top check of $3,000 is at stake this Saturday, July 21 at I-30 Speedway’s sixth annual Ed Jordan Memorial for IMCA Modifieds. A minimum of $300 will be paid to start the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier. Entry fee is $100 and includes the driver’s pit pass if paid by July 19. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Jet Racing Central Region, Arkansas State and track points will be awarded. Spectator admission is $12 for adults, $1 for kids ages 6-12 and free for five and under. Pit passes are $30. Pit gates and the grandstand open at 5 p.m. Hot laps are at 7 p.m. with racing to follow. Emotions flow at Mandan as Wolla scores Modified finale, Lund lands Stock Car prize

By Mike Spieker MANDAN, N.D. (July 12) – The defending national champion let his emotions show when the 29th annual Kupper Chevrolet Dakota Classic Tour came to a close Thursday at Dacotah Speedway. Jason Wolla claimed a hard-fought Modified win after 30 laps, as Hunter Marriott successfully concluded his bid for a third straight title with a second-place finish. “Hell yeah! We won!” Wolla exclaimed from victory lane. “To every single one of the fans up in the stands, it means a hell of a lot for me to be able to win this race on our home track. $1,500 is top IMCA Modified check Saturday at Perris

PERRIS, Calif. – IMCA Modifieds race for $1,500 to win and a Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot berth at Perris Auto Speedway this Saturday, July 21. The 30-lapper awards IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Larry Shaw Race Cars Western Region, California State and track points. RaceSaver Sprints run Wednesday at Jackson

JACKSON, Minn. – The Heartland Steel Racesaver Sprint Cars presented by Wyffels Hybrids will be added to the Jackson Motorplex program on Wednesday, July 18 with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series and the LMSS Touring Series. IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars will be racing for $600 to win, plus IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National and state points, plus a new Keizer wheel. Harris wires the Bridge for Virginia Sprint Series win

(July 14) – After numerous top five finishes this year, Tony Harris got the lead on lap one and wired the Virginia Sprint Series feature at Natural Bridge Speedway for his first win of the season. Bill Rice and Chris Ware paced the Saturday IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car field to green but Harris quickly swept low and to the front. Mike Leraas worked on Rice for second as Harris cruised up front. Arneson treats himself to Shawano checkers

(July 14) – Lance Arneson secured his first IMCA Modified win of the year with a last-lap pass of Wyatt Block when Shawano Speedway celebrated Halloween at the Half Mile on Saturday night. Ageless Jerry Muenster led lap one before his son Eddie made an outside pass to take the top spot. Block raced past Jerry for second by lap five and set his sights squarely on Eddie. Block got underneath Eddie on lap eight to take the lead. Arneson was moving quickly toward the front and as Block took the white flag, Arneson went to the high line and found an advantage. The pair raced door-to-door through turns three and four. Arneson pulled ahead as they approached the checkered flag to score his first win of the year. IMCA Sunoco Stock Car winner earns $5,000 at 141’s King of the Creek

FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. – The IMCA Sunoco Stock Car king, or queen, at 141 Speedway’s July 19-21 King of the Creek special banks $5,000. Qualifying begins on Friday, July 20; last chance races and the main event are on Saturday, July 21. Entry fee for the Stocks is $100. Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods race for $500 to win both nights while Mach-1 Sport Compacts are on deck for a $250 to win show on Friday. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, EQ Cylinder Heads Northern Region and Wisconsin State points will be awarded. An open practice is planned for Thursday evening, July 19. Pit gates open at 2 p.m. and racing starts at 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Pit passes are $25 on Thursday and $30 Friday and Saturday; a three-day pit pass is $75. Montgomery is Modified winner at Crystal

Sweet victory for Berghahn at Bumblebee Nationals

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (July 12) – Denny Berghahn Jr. made a long trip from Nebraska $1,000 better as he topped a 19-car field to win the second annual Bumblebee Nationals at Kossuth County Speedway on Thursday, night. National point leader Bubba Brown and Stephanie Coopman led the field to green for the 25-lap feature with Berghahn, who started on the outside of the second row, taking the lead immediately. From that point, all that slowed Berghahn in the drive for the best payday of his career were a quintet of cautins. Hard charger Jerry Coopman advanced nine spots to end in second with Jake Benischek, Stephanie Coopman and Jarad Gross rounding out the to five. Tad Reutzel and Bryce Sommerfield picked up their third local feature wins of the season in the IMCA Modified and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock divisions, respectively, with Derek Green taking the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature for the second straight week and Doug Cook topping the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods for the first time.
