BSB Manufacturing renews awards in six IMCA divisions

WELLINGTON, Kan. – Drivers in six IMCA divisions earn shares of a generous BSB Manufacturing awards program again this season. The Wellington, Kan., high performance parts manufacturer and 12-year sponsor gives $10,000 in product certificates to IMCA Modified, IMCA Sunoco Late Model, IMCA Sunoco Stock Car, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock, Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod and Smiley’s Racing Products Southern SportMod competitors. Product certificates valued at $300, $200 and $100, respectively, go to top three eligible drivers in each Modified, Stock Car and Hobby Stock region, and in national standings for Northern SportMods and Southern SportMods. Drivers in those divisions must compete with four BSB-manufactured shocks, display two BSB decals on their race car and return a completed signup form to the IMCA home office. Top three drivers in national Late Model standings receive product certificates worth $250, $200 and $150. And designated place finishers at 30 Modified, 10 Late Model, 15 Stock Car, 15 SportMod and 10 Hobby Stock specials all receive $50 product certificates. Jaxon Saathoff tops Eagle Modified main

By Greg Soukup EAGLE, Neb. (July 25) – Jaxon Saathoff moved to the front with six laps left in winning Saturday’s IMCA Modified main event at Eagle Raceway. Anthony Roth made his way to second while Aaron Pella led much of the way before ending in third. Defending national champion Jordan Grabouski rounded out the top four. Doug Lovegrove led from lap two to the checkers in the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car feature and Jeff Ware scored another IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock victory. Cole Wayman used a restart to his advantage in taking the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod lead and eventual win. Ray Harrington topped the Mach-1 Sport Compact main.

Hancock County Speedway hosts IMCA Speed Shift TV Dirt Knights Tour

BRITT, Iowa – One streak is guaranteed to continue when the Speed Shift TV Dirt Knights Tour for IMCA Modifieds travels to Hancock County Speedway on July 28. Ethan Braaksma hopes to continue a streak of his own next Tuesday at Britt as well. Hancock County Speedway is the only track to have hosted a Dirt Knights event every year since the tour started in 2010, with eight different drivers winning features over the course of the first 10 visits. Braaksma, from Newton, won the first two Dirt Knights features of the season July 20 at South Dakota’s Park Jefferson Speedway and July 22 at Buena Vista Raceway. Should he take the upcoming checkers and top check of $1,000, he’d match the tour consecutive wins record of three in a row established by Ricky Thornton Jr. of Adel in 2018 and equaled by Richie Gustin of Gilman last year. Charles is in charge at Bethany

BETHANY, Mo. (July 25) – Austin Charles quickly went from fourth to first Saturday night and led every lap on his way to his first Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod win at Bethany Speedway this season. Luke Stallbaumer started eighth on his way to a second place finish and Tim Eaton finished third. In the IMCA Modified division there’s always passing going on. Steven Bower Jr. shared the national points lead going into the weekend and quickly drove through the field at Bethany. A caution-free race made it hard for anyone to recover from a mistake as Bowers went on to win after starting 10th. Shayne Bailey was second from 11th. Jayden Bears ran a great race, finishing third. Starmer storms to Crist Memorial checkers

(July 24) – The fourth annual Joe Crist Memorial boasted the toughest field of IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars U.S. 36 Raceway has seen this season, and Steve Starmer proved to be the fastest of them Friday night. Twenty-nine cars checked in to battle for the $1,562 to win race. With 26 laps on the board, Joe Crist’s number 62 reversed, the field rolled into turn one with pole-sitter Starmer in the lead. With constant two and three-wide racing behind him, Starmer immediately found the high line to be the fast way around. Chad Clancy quickly moved into the second position and began to look for a way around Starmer. Behind Clancy, Doug Keller and J.J. Baumli began their moves through the field as well. However, for the entire second half of the event, the battle raged between Starmer and Clancy. Griffin gets IMCA Late Model Feature win, Sunoco bonus at Lee County

By Brian Neal DONNELLSON, Iowa (July 24) – Dustin Griffin took the checkers and $250 Sunoco Race Fuels bonus in the Friday feature for IMCA Sunoco Late Models at Pepsi Lee County Speedway. Griffin and Matt Strassheim made up the front row for the 20-lap event. Griffin took advantage of his starting spot to grab the lead on lap one over Nick Marolf and Mark Burgtorf. Marolf tried to keep pace with Griffin over the entire race but without a caution there was no catching the leader, as he pulled away to claim his first win of the season at the track. It was also Griffin’s first win in three years, as he has been temporarily retired from the sport. The win was worth $850 thanks to the Sunoco Racing Fuel bonus. $2,008 payday for IMCA Modifieds at East Moline’s inaugural Greg Durbin Memorial

EAST MOLINE, Ill – The Bullring at Rock Island County Fairgrounds remembers one of its own with the inaugural Greg Durbin Memorial on Sunday, Aug. 2. The IMCA Modified feature pays $2,008 to win and is a qualifying event for the 2020 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. The Modified portion of the show is draw/redraw with a $50 entry fee, with IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing, Side Biter Chassis North Central and KMJ Performance Illinois State, but no track points to be awarded. Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods vie for $888 to win and national, state and track points. Johnson wins IMCA Late Model thriller at Indee

By Jerry Mackey INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (July 25) – Rydell Auto Parts held Customer Appreciation Night on Saturday night at the Independence Motor Speedway and fans were treated to an IMCA Sunoco Late Model feature that had everyone on the edge of their seats. The field took the green flag with Curran Beckler setting the pace in the early going. Sean Johnson, Curt Martin and Jeff Aikey were making their way to the front to set up a battle for the ages. The trio swapped the lead several times late in the race with the lead changing hands every corner. Aikey led at the white flag only to have both Johnson and Martin get back by on the back chute. Marshalltown checkers fly for DeFrance

By Joyce Eisele MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (July 24) – Hometown hero Darrel DeFrance got his second win this year when he captured the IMCA Sunoco Late Model feature Friday night at Marshalltown Speedway. DeFrance was running second to Curtis Glover on lap nine when the leader drove off the track as he exited turn two. DeFrance then held the lead the rest of the way to the finish line to seal his second win at the speedway this year. Dalton Simonsen finished in the runner-up position and pole sitter Shawn Cooney took third. Tom Berry Jr. continued his domination at the track this year, taking win number five in the IMCA Modified division. Damon Murty took his third victory in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Brayton Carter made it three in a row in the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods. Eric Knutson took the trophy home in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks.

Hobo 40 at Hancock County pays IMCA Stock Car winner $2,000

BRITT, Iowa – Forty laps will be the distance and $2,000 will be the top prize at Hancock County Speedway’s Friday, July 31 Hobo 40 special for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars. That feature pays a minimum of $200 to start, has a $75 entry fee and highlights the county fair show. Also on the race night card are IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods and Mach-1 Sport Compacts. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, regional, KMJ Performance State and track points will be awarded. Pit gates open at 5 p.m., the grandstand opens at 6 p.m. and racing follows 7 p.m. hot laps. Spectator admission is $15 for adults, $10 for seniors and veterans, and free for kids ages 12 and under.
