DeVilbiss spins but wins Race For Hope 71 and $50,000

BATESVILLE, Ark. (Sept. 25) – There were storylines aplenty as Batesville Motor Speedway’s 50th anniversary season proved golden for Zane DeVilbiss. The New Mexico driver went into the Race For Hope 71 main event for IMCA Modifieds with a fast car, a front row starting spot and plenty of confidence. He ended the Saturday night special with the first of what he hopes becomes two $50,000 feature wins at the famed Arkansas speedplant. Gastineau unstoppable at Thunderbird Speedway

By John Rittenoure MUSKOGEE, Okla. (Sept. 24) – Whit Gastineau always looks forward to a chance to race at Thunderbird Speedway. After Friday night, you can see why. Gastineau moved into an early lead and stretched it out on the way to winning his 31st AmeriFlex/Oil Capital Racing Series IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car career feature Friday on the historic Muskogee half-mile. Gastineau, who seems to excel on the bigger ovals, also won OCRS events at Thunderbird in 2018 and 2017. Sheldon Barksdale, who won at Thunderbird in 2019, raced into second on lap six but could not run down Gastineau and settled for second. Three IMCA divisions run at Southern Oklahoma’s Jordan Page Winter Nationals

ARDMORE, Okla. – Three IMCA divisions see their final action of the season at Southern Oklahoma Speedway’s Oct. 1 and 2 Jordan Page Winter Nationals. IMCA Modifieds run for $2,500 to win and a minimum of $300 to start their feature, with the winner becoming eligible to qualify for the 2022 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. Smiley’s Racing Products Southern SportMods run for $1,500 to win and a minimum of $200 to start. IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars run for $1,000 to win, a minimum of $175 to start and B & B Racing Chassis All-Star Invitational qualifying eligibility. DeVilbiss delivers in Thursday qualifying feature at Race For Hope 71

BATESVILLE, Ark. (Sept. 23) – Zane DeVilbiss drove from the outside of row three to the checkers in winning the night two qualifying feature for IMCA Modifieds at Batesville Motor Speedway’s Race For Hope 71. The New Mexico speedster bested hard charger Tripp Gaylord, a plus 12 on the night, in taking the Thursday win and earning the starting spot at the front of the middle row for Saturday’s $50,000 to win main event. “I tried the outside, then went to the bottom and got the lead around lap six,” said DeVilbiss, who won with the same setup that earned him the Harris Clash victory in August. “The race stayed green after I got into the lead and we were just catching traffic at the end.” DeVilbiss and Gaylord were chased across the stripe by Tom Berry Jr., Wendell Wallace, Jordan Grabouski, Peyton Taylor, Terry Phillips, Jeff Aikey and Mike Mullen. Nunnenkamp Memorial this weekend at Junction Motor Speedway

McCOOL JUNCTION, Neb. – Junction Motor Speedway hosts the Barb Nunnenkamp Memorial McCool 100, with six IMCA divisions on the weekend card. IMCA Sunoco Late Models run for $1,000 to win, IMCA Modifieds for $775 to win, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars for $675 to win, Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods for $525 to win and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks for $500 to win Friday, Sept. 24 and Saturday, Sept. 25 at McCool Junction. Saturday’s Mach-1 Sport Compact feature pays $200 to win. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, regional and KMJ Performance State points will be awarded both nights. Dotson tops Race For Hope 71 opening night qualifier

BATESVILLE, Ark. (Sept. 22) – Night one of Batesville Motor Speedway’s Race For Hope 71 belonged to Ethan Dotson. The IMCA Modified clipper from Bakersfield, Calif., started seventh and finished first on Wednesday, opening night of qualifying for Saturday’s $50,000 to win main event. “We were pretty good and hopefully we can keep that speed for 75 laps on Saturday. Starting on the pole will definitely help,” Dotson said. “The track had some character (tonight) and it was fun moving around. We had to get past some pretty good cars to get to the front.” Dotson made his way into the lead on lap 10 of the 25-lapper. He’d finished 14th in the 2019 event and seventh last year. Shelby County Speedway hosts 29th Tiny Lund Memorial

HARLAN, Iowa – Shelby County Speedway rolls out the red carpet for drivers in six IMCA divisions competing in the 29th annual Tiny Lund Memorial this Friday and Saturday, Sept. 24 and 25. Hendershot repeats at Path Valley, Melair wins PASS make-up feature

By Frank Buhrman SPRING RUN, Pa. (Sept. 18) – Veteran Donnie Hendershot has developed a fondness for Path Valley Speedway . . . and for winning. Over the years, the driver of the family-backed no. 31 had scored the majority of his best finishes at BAPS Motor Speedway, but in May he earned his first career victory at Path Valley. Just four months later, he returned to the Spring Run bullring and earned IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car win number two. On a track where passing was at a premium, Hendershot slipped by early leader Mike Alleman and held off a charge from Austin Reed to capture the regularly scheduled Pennsylvania Sprint Series feature. After a lap nine caution, Reed got past Alleman and began applying pressure to Hendershot, but the Friday night Williams Grove winner wasn’t able to complete the pass for a weekend double, and Hendershot crossed the finish line .343 seconds ahead.
