Kile, Griffiths among IMCA winners at Louisa County Fair races

By Jerry Mackey COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (July 29) – A great crowd turned out on a beautiful night for racing at the 130th annual Louisa County Fair on Friday night. Larry Richardson gave the 88 race teams in attendance a great racing surface to race on, not only did the drivers use every inch of the CJ Speedway oval, they raced on the lower part of the levee on several occasions. The Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature ran caution-free. Row two starter Kurt Kile moved out front early as he raced away from Derek Walker. The race was on for second as Mitch Way and Jarrett Brown both worked to the front and waged a battle for second. Kile scored the impressive $1,000, Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational qualifying eligible win as Way edged out Brown for second. Turner grabs wild win at East Moline

By Rob Hinckley EAST MOLINE, Ill. (July 31, 2022) – The car pasted itself to the low groove and finally worked the way Erick Turner wanted. The Barstow, Ill., regular at East Moline Speedway had the hard work pay off with the 15-lap Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod win Sunday evening during a wild race. “Everyone here made this happen, all the hard work,” Turner said in the winner’s circle, pointing to his family and crew. “We’ve struggled, worked, got better and finally we’re here.” It may not have been a challenge to get to first place, but it was staying there. It’s a 10! Nichols tops Joe Crist Memorial at US 36

By Rick Staley OSBORN, Mo. (July 29, 2022) – Mike Nichols had to give a 10 to his 10th IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature win of the season. Nichols became the sixth different winner in as many years US 36 Raceway has hosted the Joe Crist Memorial, earning $2,262 for the Friday night victory at Osborn. “They had 30 cars there and any time you’ve got that many Stock Cars together, you’re bound to see good racing,” Nichols said following career checkers number 593 in the division. Derrick Agee, Danny Holt and Brandon Williams were among the first to fight it out for the lead with each taking a turn out front. Agee held off Holt, who then charged by on the outside. Buckarma bags $750 payday at Outagamie

(July 29, 2022) – Nick Buckarma outlasted Clint Forstner to score his first IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature win of the season, good for $750 and B & B Racing Chassis All-Star qualifying eligibility, Saturday night as 108 racers checked to do battle at Outagamie Speedway powered by EWSC. Forstner drew the pole and led until Buckarma used the outside groove to slip by up top on the third lap. Forstner went back to work down low, retaking the lead on the 12th lap. The duo raced side-by-side the remainder of the event with Kyle Frederick a close third. With two laps remaining, Buckarma was able to find the momentum up top to grab the top spot once again. Buckarma held on by a fender to score a thrilling win. Forstner was second, Frederick took third, Wyatt Block placed fourth and Brett Wenzel completed the top five. Olson stays hot on Iowa Donor Network Night at Indee

By Jeremy Fox INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (July 30, 2022) – Tony Olson made it six straight Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod wins at Independence Motor Speedway on Iowa Donor Network Racing to Save Lives Night. Brandon Tharp and Will Wolf led the field to the green flag but neither led the first lap as Olson grabbed the top spot early and stayed in charge following multiple restarts and earn $750. Tharp finished second and Wolf was third. Kaden Reynolds was able to sneak by Cole Mather for the lead seven laps into the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car main. Already B & B Racing Chassis All-Star qualifying eligible, Reynolds caught lapped traffic but was not to be denied as he went on to take his third win, this one good for $750, of the season in Indee. Salute to Veterans win at home track Boone is a pretty big deal for McBirnie

By Joyce Eisele BOONE, Iowa (July 30, 2022) – It was a pretty big deal when Jake McBirnie won Saturday’s rescheduled Hunting With Heroes Salute to Veterans feature for Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds at Boone Speedway. And the money wasn’t the biggest reason. McBirnie was fast from the get-go in this one, never really being challenged and winning the 25-lapper going away. Jeremy Mills started 10th and finished a distant second, followed by ninth starting Mike VanGenderen, Cory Sauerman and Chris Snyder. “This was a pretty big deal, getting $5,000 to put back into your program this late in the season,” said McBirnie already eligible to qualify for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. “It was very special when I was asked to put a veterans’ wrap on my car. String of seconds ends at Willamette as Berkeley wins $5,000 IMCA Stock special

LEBANON, Ore. (July 30, 2022) – Chase Berkeley put an end to his string of second-place finishes and put his IMCA Sunoco Stock Car in victory lane Saturday night at Willamette Speedway. Then he put $5,000 in the bank after his career-best payday. Berkeley raced from ninth starting and led the last 18 times around the track in the 50-lap marathon at Lebanon, holding Jesse Williamson at bay after a restart with six to go. “The best part about winning was that I’d had a streak of second place finishes coming into the night,” said the Colville, Wash., hotshoe, who’d clinched the Wild West Shootout crown with runner-up showings at Willamette and at Sunset Speedway Park, then ran second behind Collen Winebarger at Sunset’s 50-lap, $5,000 to win show on July 16. “It felt good to be back in the top spot.” Berkeley’s first win on the season, at Coos Bay Speedway, paved the way to the Wild West Shootout crown. Late leads pay off in Off Road features

By Randy Pospishil sports@norfolkdailynews.com NORFOLK, Neb. (July 30, 2022) – Getting the lead early wasn’t an advantage in any of the four features Saturday night at Off Road Speedway. The winners in each, the IMCA Sunoco Late Models, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods, didn’t obtain the lead until at least midway through their respective races, but all made it to victory lane. Matt Haase, for example, needed 13 of the Late Models’ 25 laps to move up from his middle-of-the-field starting position, but when he got to the front he took full advantage of the opportunity, earning his first Off Road Speedway win of the season. Haase, who had only one other top five finish in eight feature performances, passed Devin Johnson in turn four of the first lap following a caution, then sped away from the rest of the pack and also effectively handled lapped traffic to win handily with second-place finisher Cory Dumpert unable to make up ground. PLEASANTON, Texas (Aug. 1, 2022) – A $1,000 check and Fast Shafts All-Star qualifying eligibility await the winner of the Saturday, Aug. 6 Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature at I-37 Speedway. Sundowner RV of Kerrville is sponsor of the evening’s race program and pit passes are $30. Pit gates open at 4 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5 pm. Hot laps are at 6:45 p.m. with racing at approximately 7:15 p.m.
