$2,000 is top prize for IMCA Modifieds at Boyd Grand Nationals

BOYD, Texas – A $2,000 to win feature for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds headlines the Saturday, Oct. 12 Grand Nationals special at Boyd Raceway. The Modified main is a qualifier for the 2014 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. Twenty cars will start withy a minimum of $100 paid to take the green. IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center Southern SportMods will both run for $1,500 to win and a minimum of $75 to start. Non-winged IMCA Eagle Motorsports RaceSaver Sprint Cars run for $800 to win and $200 to start. Top prize for Hobby Stocks is $400. First place in the Mach-1 Sport Compact main pays $150. Purses for the Mods, Stocks and SportMods are based on 30 entries while the purse for the Hobbies is based on 20 entries. Gould gets biggest share of Modified green at Showdown

By Neal Palmer KENNEDALE, Texas (Oct.4-6) – A great season got even better Sunday for William Gould. The new IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified national champion took the $2,500 checkers in Sunday’s rescheduled Showdown at Kennedale Speedway Park. The victory put Gould on the ballot for next year’s Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. After qualifying Friday evening with a runner-up finish behind Glen Hibbard, Gould wasted no time getting around pole starter Chase Allen on the backstretch and was in the lead when every lap after that was scored. Hibbard started inside row two, was quickly up to second and pressured Gould lap after lap, briefly gaining the lead on lap three and pulling alongside on lap nine. Two circuits later, Hibbard was blocked by a lapped car and was never able to get back up to Gould and make a run for the lead. Modified winner earns $5,000 at Canyon’s Desert Classic

PEORIA, Ariz. – Canyon Speedway Park celebrates a milestone event with a $5,000 IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified payday. The 25th annual Desert Classic brings the best drivers from around the Larry Shaw Racing Western Region to town Friday and Saturday, Nov. 1-2. Saturday’s 40-lap main event pays $2,500 for second and $1,250 for third. Minimum start money for the 2014 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier is $300. The Friday program boasts a full night of racing with the qualifying feature winner picking up $600. The top six finishers that evening will be locked into Saturday’s big show. IMCA Modifieds race for $5,000 to win at RPM Fall Nationals

HAYS, Kan. (Oct. 8) – The IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature pays $5,000 to win during RPM Speedway’s seventh annual Fall Nationals Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 10-12. The main event is a 2014 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier and pays a minimum of $400 to start. Fall Nationals also boasts a $3,000 check for the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car winner. Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods race for $2,000 to win, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks for $1,000 and Mach-1 Sport Compacts race for $300. Minimum start money is $250 for the Stocks, $150 for the SportMods and Hobby Stocks and $50 for the Sport Compacts. Gould edges Sobbing in race for national IMCA Modified crown

VINTON, Iowa (Oct. 8) – William Gould has won a lot of close races in his IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified career, but few were as close as the one that made him a national champion. The Calera, Okla., veteran edged rookie Jesse Sobbing of Glenwood, Iowa, by a razor-thin 1,233-1,232 margin to win the national IMCA Modified crown. Gould was a 25-time feature winner this season, taking 24 of those checkers in his home BillsBuilt South Central Region. IMCA’s first national champion from the Sooner State, he got the maximum possible 40 bonus points for winning the track title at Kennedale Speedway Park and the Texas Lone Star Series. Sobbing collected 32 wins in all, with 24 of them coming in the Belleville Motorsports North Central Region. First-time winner prevails at Fulton in World Products Empire State Series

By Dave Medler FULTON, N.Y. (Oct. 4) – Rob Keller Jr. took the $400 checkers when the World Products Empire State Series traveled to Fulton Speedway for Friday’s Outlaw 200 show. The IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified tour victory was the career first for Keller, who took the lead on the first of 25 circuits and led to the checkers. The win was anything but easy, however, as Keller had to hold off constant late pressure from Mike Wilmot and James Cornell. It proved to be an emotional victory lane scene for Keller as he recalled his favorite moment in racing, when his brother Dane won the same event that happened to be the final race his mother ever attended. Runner-up was new point leader Wilmot. Cornell, Matt Jones and Gary Smith completed the top five. Keller became the fifth different winner in as many series events this season. Frenier, Gearhart are first in features for IMCA Modifieds at Sherman Co. Flatlander

GOODLAND, Kan. (Sept. 28-29) – Jeremy Frenier wrapped up a series championship and Cody Gearhart raced his way onto the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot by winning IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified features at Sherman County Speedway’s Flatlander special. Frenier’s fourth 2013 tour win came on Saturday at Goodland and sealed the deal on the Precise Racing Blood, Sweat and Tears Series crown. Gearhart paced the main event on Sunday. Both features paid $1,500 to win. Eddie Belec ran second each night and split top two-day point bonus money with Frenier. Originally fourth on Saturday’s starting grid, Frenier moved up to the front of the outside row for the restart following a multi-car tangle on the initial green. He led all 25 laps, following the lower line to his 11th win of the season and taking the checkers five car lengths ahead of Belec. EUNICE, N.M. (Sept. 27-28) – Chalk up a third “W” in as many visits this season to Cardinal Speedway for Vince Ogle. Ogle led all 20 laps in winning Saturday’s IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified Blake Raulston Memorial main event at Eunice. The $1,000 victory put him on the ballot for next September’s Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. “I’ve been very lucky at Cardinal. I’ve been there three times and I’ve won three times,” said the former track champion, most recently the winner at Cardinal’s Sheen Memorial in July. “I definitely go there every chance I get.” Phillip Houston kept the pressure on much of the way. (Sept. 28) – Dustin Larson was the big winner dollar-wise Saturday at Jackson Speedway while Kelly Shryock’s run to the checkers put him on the ballot for one of IMCA’s highest profile races. The two joined Cory Probst, Matt Looft and Megan Lappegard as IMCA winners at the 35th annual Jackson Nationals. Larson earned $1,500 for his IMCA Sunoco Stock Car victory, part of the Doug Cellan Memorial, while $1,100 checks went to Shryock in the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds, Probst in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Looft in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods. Gustin capitalized on his pole start and led all 20 laps of the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified main event, earning $1,500 for his efforts. Ryan Ruter raced to second from the ninth starting position but could not reel in Gustin. Tyler Droste raced to a third place finish from the sixth row and Jason Murray finished fourth from the fifth row. Gustin was already on the ballot for the 2014 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational.
