Abelson, Neal top to win $1,000 features at Shelby County’s Tiny Lund Memorial

HARLAN, Iowa (Aug. 27) – Chris Abelson added to his collection of Tiny Lund Memorial trophies while Jake Neal started his Saturday at Shelby County Speedway. Both were $1,000 feature winners, Abelson in a 2017 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying feature for Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds and the rookie Neal in the IMCA Late Model headliner. Abelson passed Shane DeMey for the lead following a restart just after midway in the Modified 20-lapper. He’d started seventh and was about a car length off the pace when the caution flew. Justin Zeitner challenged but couldn’t catch Abelson following restarts later in the contest. DeMey, Brad Bergren and Craig Reetz completed the top five. Abelson is a three-time Tiny Lund winner in the Modifieds and also topped the 2006 feature for Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods. Neal hasn’t had any luck winning the Modified feature at Shelby County’s season-ending special but needed just one try to take top honors in the Late Model division. He’d restarted last in the field following a lap four incident, then [Read More]

National point leader Grabouski added to All-Star Invitational field

BOONE, Iowa – Jordan Grabouski was likely going to make his way in as the national point leader, but he won’t have to wait for that call next week. The Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified driver will instead fill a spot in the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational field vacated by Jeff Taylor. Taylor, who was originally voted into the 13th annual race to be held during the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s, will be unable to attend the event at Boone Speedway. Grabouski will take Taylor’s spot as a representative from the Jet Racing Central Region. The final two of 30 starting spots for the event will be filled by the top driver in national point standings and the driver with the most feature wins in 2016 not already voted into the starting field. The All-Star event will be part of the Fri., Sept. 9 Super Nationals program at Boone.

World class purse paid at Sept. 5-10 Super Nationals

BOONE, Iowa – Super might not be adjective enough to describe the purse shares and contingency awards drivers competing at the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s will earn over the course of the 34th annual event. When 800-plus drivers from coast to coast and border to border exit Boone Speedway, they’ll have earned shares of an approximate $285,000. Add in another $60,000 or so in contingency awards and it’s clear that Super Nationals will continue to be the most prestigious, top-paying event for grassroots racers. “Our goal has always been to maintain reasonable entry fees and admission prices while still providing the best possible purse structure at Super Nationals and we accomplish that in conjunction with a lot of great contingencies,” IMCA President Brett Root said. “The addition of Southern SportMods to Super Nationals and pre-registration numbers for all divisions has been very positive.” Saturday’s Modified main event pays a minimum of $2,000 to win and $1,000 to start.
