Ward tops 100 win mark with twinbill sweep at I-96

IONIA, Mich. – The track where A.J. Ward started his racing career became the track where he won his career 100th and 101st IMCA Modified features. It’s good to be able to get my 100th win at my home track,” he said. “With the rainouts we’ve had it looked like I might not have a chance to get it here but everything worked out.” Ward’s 19th and 20th wins of the season came in his 36th and 37th starts, after back-to-back runner-up finishes at Tri-City Motor Speedway and Crystal Motor Speedway. It was the third time he’d won two features on the same night. His checkers in the opener came after a back-and-forth battle with Brenten DeYoung. Perfect during regular season at Beatrice, Grabouski gets 200th IMCA Modified win

BEATRICE, Neb. – Jordan Grabouski is hoping two milestone achievements earned on the same night lead to a third accomplishment at the end of the season. Grabouski won his IMCA Modified career 200th feature on Friday, completing the rare feat of sweeping the regular season at his hometown track with his 11th victory in as many starts at Beatrice Speedway. The victory was the 27th of the year for Grabouski, running for a third national championship. “It’s always cool to win at Beatrice. This is the track where I grew up so it’s got a special place in my heart,” said Grabouski, IMCA’s national champion in 2011 and 2016. “I grew up watching a lot of great drivers at Beatrice. I never thought I’d sweep the season at any race track, especially here.” The only feature Grabouski didn’t win at Beatrice this year was opening night of Spring Nationals. He bounced right back with the night two checkers – extending his career record to 10 Spring Nationals victories – and topped the Gage County Fair [Read More]

Super Nationals nears record with entries from 26 states

BOONE, Iowa – The number of drivers already entered for the Sept. 3-8 IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s is impressive. So are all the states they’re coming to Boone Speedway from, to be part of America’s Racin’ Vacation. “Our pre-registration numbers are over 500 and running ahead of last year. What’s really neat to see is the number of different states (26 so far, plus Canada and Australia) that are represented by early entries,” noted IMCA President Brett Root. “We pride ourselves on having a set of rules that allows drivers to go to any sanctioned track in the country and know they’ll be legal when they get there,” he continued. “That’s one reason why so many drivers from so many different places make Super Nationals their racing vacation every September.” The record for different states represented at Super Nationals is 27, matched most recently two years ago. “The atmosphere at Boone is a huge draw. There are a lot of big events but Super Nationals is unique,” Root said. “Another thing [Read More]

Prestige, pay among many reasons to be part of RaceSaver Nationals at Eagle

EAGLE, Neb. – The best IMCA Sprint Car drivers from across the United States are Eagle Raceway bound for the Aug. 30-Sept. 2 RaceSaver Nationals. Early entries for the sixth annual event have now passed 110, with the pre-registration fee of $15. That comes with a reserved pit stall while they last in effect until Aug. 23. “There are a lot of different reasons why so many drivers want to be part of the RaceSaver Nationals. For some it’s the atmosphere, the thousands of fans and the great friends they make every year from different parts of the country,” said Eagle promoter Roger Hadan. “For others it’s the prestige and chasing the title of being the best of the best. Just making the main event is a major accomplishment.” “Maybe it’s the format and getting the chance to qualify for the main event all three nights instead of only having just one or two chances,” he added. “Or maybe it’s the fact the pay is dispersed well – $2,500 to win and $1,250 to start Sunday’s main [Read More]

Shryock Memorial checkers give Marriott another Hancock County special event win

BRITT, Iowa (Aug. 11) – Following his latest visit to victory lane at Hancock County Speedway, Hunter Marriott could lay claim to a singular achievement. Marriott topped Saturday’s Bob Shryock Memorial All Star event, a fast-paced IMCA Modified 40-lapper that ran green to checkered and paid $3,000 to win. Marriott has now won all three of the traditional August specials at Britt … the Night of 1,000 Stars on Thursday, the Night of 10,000 Stars in 2016 and 2017, and now the Shryock “We seem to get around that place pretty good,” acknowledged Marriott, who passed Jeremy Mills for the lead near midway and outran ‘B’ qualifier Ricky Thornton Jr. for his latest Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying victory. “The racing is always pretty good there.” While the fourth starting Marriott ran the lower line most of the way, he did go to the high side to get around Mills. The sailing was mostly smooth from that point, although Thornton was cutting into Marriott’s lead the last 10 circuits while the leader worked through [Read More]

BRITT, Iowa (Aug. 10) – Ricky Thornton Jr. crossed another race off his must-win list Friday at Hancock County Speedway. Thornton started on the pole and led all 50 laps of the Night of 10,000 Stars main event for IMCA Modifieds. The first half of the race ran caution free. Thornton had five car lengths on the rest of the field when the race was halted for the mandatory pit stop and opted against making any changes to his car during the break.
