Good, better nights for Ferrando, Murty in IMCA Modified qualifiers

BOONE, Iowa (Sept. 7, 2023) – Grey Ferrando had a pretty good night. Dallon Murty’s was even better. Ferrando made the trip to Oregon for the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s and won Thursday’s first Modified qualifying feature. Murty, from much closer Chelsea and winner of the B & B Racing Chassis All-Star Invitational earlier in the evening, prevailed in a nightcap that saw its share of excitement and more in the final laps. Ryan McDaniel, Lucas Lamberies and Jordan Grabouski finished behind Ferrando, Tripp Gaylord, Jerry Flippo and Chris Abelson behind Murty. All advance to the middle row of Saturday’s Big Dance at Boone Speedway. The pole starter, Ferrando led all 25 laps, holding on to the front spot despite four restarts over the last half of the race. McDaniel and Lamberies swapped second seven times before the Californian settled in for good with six to go and Grabouski had just enough oomph left to outrun Chaz Baca for the final transfer. “I was just trying to be smooth and hit [Read More]

DeVilbiss, Lund celebrate Thursday Stock Car qualifying wins

BOONE, Iowa (Sept. 7, 2023) – A night after coming oh-so-close, Zane DeVilbiss got on the roof of his race car and celebrated his qualifying feature win at the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. And 30 years after winning his first Super Nationals championship, Curt Lund celebrated a qualifying feature win of his own, only a little more quietly than the driver known as Zippy D had done minutes before. All this after another Stock Car entry joined in Thursday at Boone Speedway, nudging the division total to a record 258 and the new Super Nationals mark to 1,014. DeVilbiss had watched Cody Laney steal the lead away late and finished second in his Modified qualifier on Wednesday. An odd twist of fate saw the New Mexico pilot drive by Troy Burkhart with six laps to go for the Thursday checkers. “He was in the same situation I was in last night. The front isn’t always where you want to be and I had the bird’s eye view,” reasoned DeVilbiss. “We got [Read More]

Dallon Murty dominates in B & B All-Star Invitational at Boone

BOONE, Iowa (Sept. 7, 2023) – Check another IMCA Sunoco Stock Car accomplishment off Dallon Murty’s to-do list. Murty led all 30 laps of the B & B Racing Chassis All-Star Invitational during Thursday’s IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s program at Boone Speedway. The convincing win was good for $1,000, another $750 in lap money and a new chassis courtesy of race title sponsor B & B. “Luckily, I could see the jumbotron,” said Murty, who glanced up at the big screen in the center of the infield to see Kelly Shryock on the move. “You know him, he’s one of the best to roll the tires.” “That was probably the longest race. I hate rolling the tires like that, but I figured I had to get down there.” Shryock, winner of the inaugural invitational in 2021, repeated as runner-up. Jeff Ware, Nick Roberts and Jeffrey Abbey completed the top five. Hard charger Jake McBirnie started 26th and finished eighth. Abbey ran second up to the only caution of the race on lap [Read More]
