Mackenthun adds pink to Stock Car, promotes breast cancer awareness in 20th IMCA season

HAMBURG, Minn. – Weeks before the first race of his 20th IMCA Sunoco Stock Car season, Dan Mackenthun was already getting compliments on his 2021 ride. The Hamburg, Minn., driver debuts a pink-themed breast cancer awareness car, complete with ribbons in the hood and side panel schemes, when he heads south for the Ice Breaker Challenge at Abilene Speedway and the Sniper Speed Lone Star Tour. “A group of us were sitting around, trying to decide what color to go with this year. I never thought I’d have a pink car but it turned out pretty nice,” said Mackenthun. “The tie-in is breast cancer awareness. I-30 Speedway lightning quick to sanction IMCA STARS Mod Lites

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Promoter Tracey Clay caught lightning in a bottle last season with the addition of IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars to weekly programs at I-30 Speedway.  She’ll do that again in 2021, sanctioning the new IMCA STARS Mod Lite division at her central Arkansas speedplant.  “We have run this class 15 years or so. They started as dwarf cars and became Mod Lites. I love the class – they’re a great group of drivers,” Clay said. “I talked to (STARS president and now division director) Jimmy May at our Mod Lite special last fall about the IMCA sanction. I told him I was pro-IMCA and would definitely do it.”  “They announced the Mod Lites would be IMCA sanctioned in December and I said I’m in.” I-30 is IMCA’s longest sanctioned Modified track in the state, at 31 years. IMCA opens loyalty bonus to all pre-registered Lone Star Tour drivers

ABILENE, Texas (Feb. 9) – Due to the upcoming cancellation of the other stock car tour scheduled the week before the Sniper Speed Lone Star Tour, IMCA will extend the $500 loyalty bonus to all IMCA Sunoco Stock Car drivers registered to compete in the Lone Star Tour by 5 p.m. CST today (Tuesday). Registered drivers who ran in January at Corpus Christi will be eligible for that bonus. All tour races now pay those registered drivers a minimum of $1,500 to win.  The big week of racing starts with the 24th annual Ice Breaker at Abilene Speedway on Feb. 19, followed by opening night of the fourth annual tour at Abilene.  The winner of the Friday, Feb. 19 Stock Car feature earns $3,000 while the winner’s share of the Saturday, Feb. 20 feature will be $2,000. Round 3, 4 Winter Series Challenge IMCA Modified wins to Gaylord, Baca

PEORIA, Ariz. (Feb. 6-7) – While Tripp Gaylord repeated his weekend runs to victory lane, Chaz Baca scored Sunday IMCA Modified checkers in Canyon Speedway AZ Winter Series Challenge action. After racing early with Bryson Yeager, Gaylord took charge of the Saturday main event and took home $1,000. “I lucked out with the pill draw,” said Gaylord, who started second and finished in front of Baca, 15th starting Cody Thompson and Aaron Elwess. “Then I kept it out front.”  Baca, also already on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot, worked his way up from the third row to reel in leader Elwess on Sunday. He chased Elwess into traffic, then took over the front spot when the Oregon visitor pulled off with a flat.  “I held it steady and smooth and stayed in the lead the rest of the race,” Baca reported following his third $1,000 checkers of the early season.
