SHAWANO, Wis. (July 24 and 25) – The inaugural event at Shawano Speedway billed as the Mid-Summer Classic proved to be just that. Marcus Yarie and Mike Mullen earned $1,150 IMCA Modified feature wins and Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot berths, Jared Siefert and Jeremy Christians were $1,000 IMCA Sunoco Stock Car winners and Jeff Schmuhl swept $600 to win Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod features July 24 and 25. Siefert, himself no stranger to victory lane at Shawano, grabbed the Stock Car win by a nose over Brandon Czarapata and Christians. Weaver prevails for first PASS win at Path Valley

By Frank Buhrman SPRING RUN, Pa. (July 25) – Jeffrey Weaver brought a modest Pennsylvania Sprint Series resume into Saturday’s racing at Path Valley Speedway Park, but his track record took a huge leap when the former micro sprint racer earned his first IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car win in one of the most hotly contested feature races of 2020.  Weaver, who had a pair of fourths as his best previous PASS finishes, started the feature on the outside pole and stood up this season’s hottest PASS driver, Garrett Bard, and 2020 winners John Walp and Christian Rumsey on a night when there wasn’t a lap without a two-, three-, or even four-car battle for the lead. On every lap, Weaver looked fully at home among the giants. With Walp, who led 20 laps, and Bard fighting furiously for the lead, running lap after lap side-by-side in the middle grooves, Weaver hung onto third, maintaining a consistent ultra-low line. Just before a lap 17 caution, Weaver slipped past Bard, who was running high, and on lap [Read More]

Wahrman hoists Hobby hardware at Dodge City

By Lonnie Wheatley DODGE CITY, Kan. (July 24) – Duane Wahrman became the fourth different IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock winners in as many events this season Saturday at Dodge City Raceway Park.  Wahrman took command on the sixth of 15 rounds and slipped away from the field until Tathan Burkhart raced into second at midway. Burkhart chipped away at the lead but ran out of laps to catch Wahrman. Burkhart was second with Skeets Salazar in third.  In the 20-lap IMCA Modified feature, Dakota Sproul put on a clinic as he posted his second win of the year. Gunning into the lead at the outset, Sproul ripped the top side of the track and checked out on the field as Clay Sellard and Brendon Gemmill worked into second and third.  A late caution negated Sproul’s hefty advantage, but he slipped away with ease to post the win. Troy Burkhart worked his way past early pacesetter Chris Oliver at the midway point then held him off the rest of the way in the 15-lapper for his second IMCA Sunoco [Read More]

Hancock County Speedway hosts IMCA Speed Shift TV Dirt Knights Tour

BRITT, Iowa – One streak is guaranteed to continue when the Speed Shift TV Dirt Knights Tour for IMCA Modifieds travels to Hancock County Speedway on July 28. Ethan Braaksma hopes to continue a streak of his own next Tuesday at Britt as well. Hancock County Speedway is the only track to have hosted a Dirt Knights event every year since the tour started in 2010, with eight different drivers winning features over the course of the first 10 visits. Braaksma, from Newton, won the first two Dirt Knights features of the season July 20 at South Dakota’s Park Jefferson Speedway and July 22 at Buena Vista Raceway. Should he take the upcoming checkers and top check of $1,000, he’d match the tour consecutive wins record of three in a row established by Ricky Thornton Jr. of Adel in 2018 and equaled by Richie Gustin of Gilman last year. Also on the Tuesday card are IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks running for $1,000 to win their Joel Showalter Memorial, plus IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Karl Kustoms [Read More]

Starmer storms to Crist Memorial checkers

By Jacob Blair  OSBORN, Mo. (July 24) – The fourth annual Joe Crist Memorial boasted the toughest field of IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars U.S. 36 Raceway has seen this season, and Steve Starmer proved to be the fastest of them Friday night.  Twenty-nine cars checked in to battle for the $1,562 to win race. With 26 laps on the board, Joe Crist’s number 62 reversed, the field rolled into turn one with pole-sitter Starmer in the lead. With constant two and three-wide racing behind him, Starmer immediately found the high line to be the fast way around. Chad Clancy quickly moved into the second position and began to look for a way around Starmer. Behind Clancy, Doug Keller and J.J. Baumli began their moves through the field as well. However, for the entire second half of the event, the battle raged between Starmer and Clancy. As laps wound down, Clancy made several attempts on the low side to get to the inside of Starmer, but never could find enough speed. Leading all 26 laps, Starmer [Read More]
