BOONE, Iowa (May 16, 2026) — Joel Huggins raced from ninth starting position to score his first Stealth Racing IMCA Mod Lite victory of the season Saturday night at Boone Speedway before rain postponed the remainder of the evening’s racing program.
Landon Elliott paced much of the 15-lap Mod Lite feature after taking the early lead while Charlie Brown moved into the top spot on lap nine. Huggins, from Des Moines, steadily worked his way through the field and grabbed the lead from Brown on lap 12 before driving away for the victory.
Brown finished second ahead of Elliott, Jaxon Carr, and Bryan Zehm, who advanced from 12th to fifth. Garrett Barber turned in an impressive charge from the 21st starting position to finish sixth.
The race was slowed on lap five when Bryan Compart of Madrid, Iowa suffered a series of hard flips in turn four. Compart was okay but unable to continue.
Carter Cruises in SportMod Main
Brayton Carter continued his strong start to the season in the Karl Kustoms IMCA Northern SportMods.
The reigning national champion from Oskaloosa led all 18 laps of the feature race to earn his third victory of the season at his third different track.
Matt Avila crossed the line second after advancing four positions while Cam Reimers charged from 12th to third. Mike Smith also sliced through the field from 11th to fourth. Rocky Caudle completed the top five.
Smith won the Dash For Cash earlier in the night.
Rain Halts Remaining Features
Rain interrupted the Karl Kustoms IMCA Modified feature eight laps into the main event.
The caution flew for the No. 5M of Matthew Meineke after he went off the top of turn two and came to a stop. During the caution period, rain began falling as officials kept the field circulating around the speedway in hopes the shower would pass.
After several laps under caution, the rain intensified and officials sent the cars to the pits before ultimately postponing the remainder of the evening’s racing action.
The Modified feature will resume from the caution period at the beginning of next Saturday’s program. Split features for the Sunoco IMCA Hobby Stocks, Sunoco IMCA Stock Cars, and the second of two Karl Kustoms IMCA Northern SportMod features will also be made up.
Drivers not in attendance Saturday night will not be permitted to compete in the makeup features.
