GOODLAND, Kan. (Sept. 27, 2024) – Kyle Rohleder kept up his winning ways on opening night of the 35th annual Flatlander at Sherman County Speedway.
Rohleder’s third Friesen Performance IMCA Modified victory of the season at Goodland was good for $1,000 and Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational qualifying eligibility.
Seventy-nine race teams checked in for the night and joining Rohleder in victory lane were Troy Burkhart in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Cody Williams in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, Blaine Walt in the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods and Gage Porter in the Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compacts.
The Modified 20-lap feature event started with a front row of Marshal Hoppe and Trevor Geist, with the latter leading until lap three, the circuit that saw a multi-car pileup that ended the night for four of the seven drivers involved.
Geist restarted the field but Rohleder sped by to take the lead. There was no catching his Zero numbered machine from that point as the WaKeeney hotshoe was flawless through lapped traffic.
Second was Greg Gustus and third went to Geist.
Eric Munoz and then Jason Rogers paced the 20-lapper for Stock Cars.
Rogers and Burkhart ran side-by-side off a restart but it was the Gentle Giant coming out on top, collecting $750 and B & B Racing Chassis All-Star Invitational qualifying eligibility.
Tyler Tipton finished second. Doug Holzmeister advanced eight spots to third.
Williams led all 20 times around the track in the Hobby Stock main, red flagged in the late going when Tyler Willis went for a roll in turns one and two.
Williams then survived a green, white, checkered to pick up the win. Mike Kennedy and William Doudney completed the top three.
Walt started outside the front row, jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in collecting the Northern SportMod checkers.
A caution with six laps to go allowed Hunter Smith to close in but the young pilot could not find a way around the leader while Kamren Gruber and Brianna Maughlin moved throughout the field after starting 10th and 17th, respectively.
Runner-up honors would go to Smith while Gruber was third, Adam Weber fourth and hard charger Maughlin fifth.
Porter got around Connor Schwien late in topping the Sport Compact feature.
