Belec tops season opener at Sherman County

GOODLAND, Kan. (May 4, 2024) – Score a Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature win for a 16th straight season for Eddie Belec, this one coming on opening night at Sherman County Speedway.

The Arvada, Colo., clipper got the lead from the get-go, outrunning Kyle Rohleder and Tony Acierno following the single, early caution.

“It was pretty smooth sailing,” Belec said following career win number 62 in the division. “We were nervous our first few seasons in a Modified. We looked around and wondered how the other guys did it, so we’ve come a long ways.”

“We’ve had a lot of good help over the years,” he added. “I never thought we would have the success we’ve had.”

Other winners were Tyler Tipton in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Cody Williams in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, Monty Nordyke in the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods and Brock Leibhart in the Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compacts. 

Tipton took the lead early in the Stock Car main, staying in front to the finish as Kolby Stegman held off Doug Holzmeister in the battle for second.

Williams garnered hard charger honors as well as the victory after starting the Hobby Stock feature from 10th. Second was Morgan Olmstead and third was Mike Kennedy.

Nordyke challenged several times before securing the Northern SportMod lead. Second went to Brady Bencken, third to Ryan Kirchoff.

And Leibhart led most of the way, then rallied to pass Ted Trumbo for the Sport Compact win. Chase Cloe ended in third.

Sherman County Speedway ends season with 31st Flatlander Classic

GOODLAND, Kan. – Sherman County Speedway wraps up the 2020 season with the 31st annual Flatlander Classic on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 25 and 26.  Both the IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars run for $1,500 to win, with the Modified winner earning a spot on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot as well.  IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods chase $1,000 top checks while the Mach-1 Sport Compact feature pays $400 to win. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, regional and KMJ Performance State points will be awarded.  Registration fees of $160 for Modifieds and Stock Cars, $140 for Hobby Stocks and Northern SportMods and $100 for Sport Compacts include the weekend pit pass for the driver.  Drivers in all divisions should register at myracepass.com. Belec best in Modifieds, Tubbs tops Stocks at Sherman Co.’s IMCA Flatlander Classic

GOODLAND, Kan. (Sept. 26) – Eddie Belec got the monkey off his back, Jeff Tubbs got to the track on time and both got paid $1,500 for their Saturday IMCA feature wins at Sherman County Speedway’s Flatlander Classic. Belec led all 20 laps in the IMCA Modified main, outrunning cousin Dominic Ursetta and Greg Gustus. His Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying win was his IMCA first since July of 19. “It had been a little while since I won at Goodland. It had been a little while since I won, period,” Belec said. You never know when you’re going to win again. Five IMCA divisions at Sherman County Flatlander

GOODLAND, Kan. – Five IMCA divisions are on the Friday and Saturday, Sept. 28 and 29 Flatlander Fall Classic card at Sherman County Speedway. IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars both race for $1,000 to win, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks for $750 to win and Mach-1 Sport Compacts for $200 to win. Modified features are qualifying events for the 2019 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, regional and state points will be given and numerous contingencies awarded for the draw/redraw special.
