Cordes, Mackenthun, Fett, Nielsen score Friday wins at Britt

BRITT, Iowa (May 3, 2024) – Hancock County Speedway in Britt and new track manager Darin Toot lifted the lid on the 2024 IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing season Friday night.

After a soggy start to the week, sunny skies greeted drivers and fans on Britt’s Main Street for Race Day on Main, with the race night sponsored by Mr. K’s Bar and Grill. Off season efforts to improve the racing surface at Britt paid off, with each main event featuring close competition and two, three and sometimes four-wide battles. 

Jacob Dahle led early in the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature with Troy Cordes closing quickly. When Dahle made contact with a lapped car, that opened the door for Cordes to make his move. Cordes, who could use every groove on the track, pulled away late to collect the win. Garrett Wilson and Jason Bass had strong showings to finish second and third.

In the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Chad Palmer and Kevin Opheim shared row one and tussled during the first half of the feature. Dan Mackenthun ran them both down and passed Palmer late to score the win, his career 178th in the class. Troy Swearingen advanced five spots to third.

Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods stole the show on this night. Charlie Stevens, Josh Appel and Alec Fett waged a three-wide war during the first two-thirds of the main. Colby Fett flew from 11th to second and the battle between the Fett’s was close at the end. Alec bested older brother Colby for first, while Stevens was third. 

Last year, Brandon Nielsen and Mike Smith finished first and second in the point standings and they were in that order throughout much of the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature. Nielsen tried to keep Smith behind him late and when Nielsen squeezed a little too much in turn three, Smith spun, causing a yellow. Nielsen then held off a charging Josh Sidles for the win. Jeremy Wegner ended in third.

Hancock County SportMod Nationals win is Anderson’s for third time

By Chad Meyer BRITT, Iowa (May 13, 2024) – Eddyville’s Logan Anderson has been to Hancock County Speedway in Britt exactly three times, each during the tracks annual Gold-Eagle Cooperative IMCA Spring Fling SportMod Nationals. On Monday night, he ran down leader Colby Fett in the closing laps to score his third Spring Fling Nationals victory in as many tries.  Jared Boumeester led the first few circuits of the $2,000 to win main event before Justin Klynsma and Jake Sachau took over first and second, respectively. Contact between the two resulted in a caution with both drivers retiring from the event. In the late stages Colby Fett built a sizable lead before Anderson ran him down for the win. Hancock County Speedway hosts IMCA Speed Shift TV Dirt Knights Tour

BRITT, Iowa – One streak is guaranteed to continue when the Speed Shift TV Dirt Knights Tour for IMCA Modifieds travels to Hancock County Speedway on July 28. Ethan Braaksma hopes to continue a streak of his own next Tuesday at Britt as well. Hancock County Speedway is the only track to have hosted a Dirt Knights event every year since the tour started in 2010, with eight different drivers winning features over the course of the first 10 visits. Braaksma, from Newton, won the first two Dirt Knights features of the season July 20 at South Dakota’s Park Jefferson Speedway and July 22 at Buena Vista Raceway. Should he take the upcoming checkers and top check of $1,000, he’d match the tour consecutive wins record of three in a row established by Ricky Thornton Jr. of Adel in 2018 and equaled by Richie Gustin of Gilman last year. Hancock County’s Hobo 100 has $4,000 IMCA Sunoco Stock Car top prize 

BRITT, Iowa – IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars get top billing at Hancock County Speedway’s Friday, July 27 Hobo 100, racing for a top prize of $4,000. Rounding out the card are IMCA Modifieds vying for $2,000 to win and a berth on the 2019 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot, while Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods run for $1,000 to win, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks for $500 to win and Mach-1 Sport Compacts for $200 to win. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, regional and Iowa State, but no local track points will be awarded at the draw/redraw show. Pit gates open at 5 p.m., the grandstand opens at 6 p.m. and racing follows 7 p.m. hot laps. Spectator admission is $15 for adults, $5 for kids ages 5-12 and free for four and under. Pit passes are $30.
