IMCA RaceSavers chase big payday at Dodge City Sprint Car Nationals

(July 2) – The Independence Weekend got off to an early start at Dodge City Raceway Park with Brett Becker picking up the $1,000 winner’s share in the Mel Hambelton Ford Racing POWRi United Rebel Sprint Series vs. DCRP Sprint Car Clash. Becker gridded the feature outside the front row but it was 16-year-old pole starter Kyler Johnson gunning into the initial lead of the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car main event. Fourth starting Jake Bubak handled Becker on lap two to move into the runner-up spot.  By lap five Becker found the bottom to his liking, moving back by Bubak and taking the lead one lap later from Johnson.   Working through traffic much of the way, Becker fought off a bid from Bubak at the midway point and then had Johnson on his tailtank again after a Bubak miscue on the 16th lap. (Jan. 27) – Setting the stage for a stellar 2018 racing season, Dodge City Raceway Park competitors and fans celebrated the recently-completed 2017 season with Satur­day night’s annual Awards Banquet. More than 200 attendees took in Saturday night’s festivities at the Western State Bank Expo adja­cent to the 3/8-mile Dodge City clay oval with the top contenders in each of the track’s five champion­ship chase divisions recognized during the evening. Taking top accolades in each division were Clay Sellard in the IMCA Modifieds, Jeff Kaup in the IMCA SportMods, Angel Munoz in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Reagan Sellard in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Taylor Velasquez in Precise Racing Products DCRP Sprint Cars, While others among the top 10 and each champion also picked up their hardware and point fund monies, Munoz picked up an extra $100 and the 2017 DCRP Feature Winner board for racking up the most feature wins over the course of the season. Munoz racked up six wins to top the over­all win charts [Read More]

(June 30) – After starting deep in the field, Angel Munoz motored to the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car checkers on mid-season championship night at Dodge City Raceway Park. Munoz became the first three-time winner of the season at Dodge City, ultimately fending off Troy Burkhart to take top honors in the 15-lap feature. Munoz gridded the feature ninth and waded through three and four-wide traffic to take command by the fifth lap. Burkhart charged into second after a lap nine caution and turned on the heat on Munoz to see which one would become the first three-time winner of the year. Burkhart edged ahead briefly on the 10th lap only to have Munoz counter and recapture the point for keeps.  Munoz raced to the stripe ahead of Burkhart with Chris Oliver, Dusty Witthuhn and Greg Schell rounding out the top five. Clay Sellard was the IMCA Modified winner and Robert Elliott paced the IMCA SportMods. Ta­than Burkhart topped the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock main.
