PASS preps for rare Thursday race at Bloomsburg

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. (June 27, 2023) – The River Valley Builders PA Sprint Series returns to Bloomsburg Fair Raceway Thursday, June 29 for a rare weeknight racing program.

The IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars will join the sprint-like All-Pro SpeedSTRs, front-wheel drive 4-cylinders, and Slingshot scale cars. Racing is schedule to begin at 7 p.m.

PASS has only run three times on the new Bloomsburg track, located inside the horse track where auto racing was held in decades past. Last season, Austin Reed visited victory lane for both the tour’s appearances (a third scheduled stop was canceled).

Only one other driver, Scott Frack, finished in the top five in both 2023 races and he plans a welcomed return to PASS competition Thursday after a prolonged absence. Kruz Kepner has a fifth and a sixth, with Jeffrey Weaver, Timmy Bittner and Ken Duke each posting a pair of top 10s. Bittner has a runner-up finish.

Runaway PASS points leader Logan Spahr of Lewisberry will be seeking his eighth win of the season at a track where he has not raced before and current points runner-up Seth Schnoke is in the same position, adding an interesting twist to Thursday’s competition.

Early indications are that a full field of sprinters will be on hand, and with the New Jersey-based Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series not scheduled over the July 4 weekend, more drivers from the East may yet decide to compete. Visiting teams are reminded to pre-register in order to receive important updates and news.

Pit gates open at 5 p.m. and grandstands at 6 p.m. Pit admission is $30.

PASS is off for the rest of the holiday weekend, giving teams the option to participate at Clinton County in a two-day show Friday and Saturday or spend the holiday with their families.

Sweigart blasts past PASS foes at Port Royal Speedway

PORT ROYAL, Pa. (April 27) – In a performance worthy of his nickname, “Nitro” Nick Sweigart blasted the Pennsylvania Sprint Series field to earn his first victory since 2017 in the 20-lap fea­ture Saturday at Port Royal Speedway.  Flying past competitors on the outside from his 10th starting position, Sweigart took the lead from Jaremi Hanson on lap seven and never looked back, scoring the win by a 1.448-second margin over Jonathan Jones, who passed Hanson in the fourth turn of the final lap.  Zach Newlin finished fourth, with Ryan Lynn taking fifth.  Sweigart raced to seven top five finishes last year, including two runner-ups, but he hadn’t visited victory lane since August of 2017 at BAPS Motor Speedway. PASS looks for dry bullring at Path Valley

(May 12, 2023) – Looking to square the balance sheet at four races run versus four rainouts, the River Valley Builders Pennsylvania  Sprint Series returns to Path Valley Speedway on Saturday for its second try at running on the series’ oldest active track, where more than 200 feature races have run since 2000. The 25th Anniversary PASS season has been slowed by rain, including a wet Saturday on April 15, when the series was supposed to have opened its 2023 season at the high-banked bullring that sits up against a mountain near Spring Run in northern Franklin County. This weekend’s IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car event sees gates opening at 4 p.m., with warm-ups starting at 6 p.m. and racing to follow. Duke is PASS king at Selinsgrove

(July 11) – This time a year ago, Ken Duke already had five Pennsylvania Sprint Series wins and 10 top-five finishes, on his way to becoming the PASS and IMCA Rac­eSaver Sprint Car national champion. On Saturday night, the effort to make 2020 memorable for the right reasons took a big step for­ward when the hometown racer took the 20-lap PASS feature at Selinsgrove Speedway.
