SHAWANO, Wis, (Aug. 20, 2022) – Andy Karl survived a caution slowed Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature to score his first-ever feature win at the historic half mile Shawano Speedway Saturday night.

Former rookie of the year Adam Jacobson took the lead at the start of the event. Karl went to the inside on lap three to take the lead. Karl survived and used multiple restarts to maintain his advantage at the front of the field.

JJ Anderson applied pressure to the leader before mechanical woes ended his night. Late in the race, Karl held off Jayden Schmidt for the win. Schmidt advanced 13 spots for second. Lucas Lamberies finished third. Ageless Jerry Muenster was fourth and Marcus Yarie advanced 11 spots to take fifth.  

The Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod feature hit the track with third generation racer JJ Vanderloop leading lap one. 

Vanderloop quickly began to pull away from the rest of the field as Mike Springborn ran second on the grid. As Vanderloop clicked off lap after lap in the lead, Bryce Clements, Jeffery Teske and Cory Kemkes began working their way forward in the field.

By lap 10, Clements had worked to second while Teske moved to fourth. A caution after lap 13 bunched the field back up. Vanderloop continued to lead but Clements was able to stay with him now.

Teske went to the inside of Springborn for third on lap 14. Another caution came out after lap 17. Teske used the outside line on the restart to snag the lead from Vanderloop. Teske led the rest of the way for the win. Clements passed Vanderloop as well for second. Vanderloop, Kemkes and JJ’s brother Jerry Vanderloop completed the top five.   

In IMCA Sunoco Stock Car action, Tyler Wendt led lap one before giving way to Mitch Stankowski on lap two.

Kyle Frederick passed Stankowski for the lead on lap five. Frederick then pulled away for the win.  Stankowski, Jeff Kropp, Wendt and Vern Stedjee rounded out the top five.

Yarie wires Racing For A Reason IMCA Modified field at Shawano 

By Scott Owen SHAWANO, Wis. (July 28) – Marcus Yarie utilized his art skills in drawing the pole for the IMCA Modified feature, then led all 20 laps for the $1,000 win Saturday at Shawano Speedway. Brekken Kleinschmidt challenged Yarie early in the Racing For A Reason Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier, while Lance Arneson and Wyatt Block challenged late in the race. It was all in vain, though, as Yarie would not be denied. He was chased across the finish line by Arneson, the 10th starting Block, Jason Czarapata and 12th starting Mike Mullen. The eighth annual Racing For A Reason event again brought out a huge crowd to raise money for childhood cancer charities. The night was also highlighted by a memorial to honor former track champion Mark Mitchell who passed away this past winter after a battle with cancer. Lemmens, Sobiesczyk, Mullen are Shawano winners

By Dave Buss SHAWANO, Wis. (April 24) – Hardy fans came out Saturday evening to Shawano Speedway to see Luke Lemmens, Tyler Sobiesczyk and Mike Mullen pick up IMCA feature wins. Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods led off feature action with Dylan Waldvogel and Sobiesczyk on the front row. Sobiesczyk did not let his great starting position go to waste as he stormed out to a commanding lead in the early part of the race. Waldvogel was challenged and eventually passed by John Holtger, who got close to the Sobiescyk machine on a couple of occasions but was not able to make the pass. Back in traffic, Jayden Schmidt was working his way forward in a spirited battle with Jeffrey Teske and Max Oreskovich.  Schmidt eventually grabbed the third spot with Teske fourth. Yarie, Raddant return to Shawano winner’s circle

(June 9) – Marcus Yarie and Kyle Raddant made return trips to the winner’s circle at Shawano Speedway following IMCA Modified and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod main events, respectively. Chucky Forstner and Jerry Muenster battled for the lead on the opening lap of the Modified main.  Forstner held the lead until lap 10 when rookie Brekken Kleinschmidt took to the outside of the track and grabbed the front spot. Yarie followed Kleinschmidt around Forstner into second, then powered his way past Klein­schmidt for the lead on the following lap.  Wyatt Block soon passed Kleinschmidt to grab se­cond.  In the end it was Yarie for the win, chased by Block, Kleinschmidt, Lance Arneson, and Jerry Wilinski.  Kaden Besaw led the opening lap of the Northern SportMod feature before giving way to Rad­dant, who then took to the high line of the track and looked to ride off into the sunset.
