Former champs top Dakota Tour openers

Hibdon won the IMCA Modified feature on opening night of the Corral Sales Dakota Classic Tour, passing Eddie Belec for the front spot with eight circuits left in the 30-lapper. The 17-year-old speedster from Nevada pulled away from that point. Ethan Dotson worked his way to the runner-up spot, crossing the stripe a straightaway off Hibdon’s $2,000 first-place pace.  “This was a good race to win. MINOT, N.D. (July 12) – The battle was for second place on night three of the Dakota Classic Modified Tour. Ricky Thornton Jr. started on the pole and stayed in front every time around the Nodak Speed­way oval, earning $2,400 for his latest IMCA Modified tour checkers. He was catching up with the back of the field just after midway when the caution came out and took traffic temporarily out of the equation. The top five pulled away after the ensuing restart and while Thornton was lapping cars the final five circuits, Austin Arneson, Jason Wolla, Eddie Belec and Spencer Wilson could not catch the leader and followed him across the stripe on that order. Elijah Zevenbergen ran his streak to three straight IMCA Sunoco Stock Car tour checkers. Chanse Hollatz and Dalton Flory took turns at the point before Zevenbergen gained the lead 10 laps in. (July 9, 2022) – Tom Berry Jr. raced his way back to a familiar locale on opening night of the Corral Sales IMCA Dakota Classic Modified Tour Saturday at Jamestown Speedway. Hooked up and flying from the start of the 30-lapper for Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds, Berry led every time around the oval in collecting the $2,000 checkers and his seventh Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational qualifying victory already this season. More than 50 IMCA Modified drivers traveled from across the United States and Canada to compete in the prestigious six-day tour. Drivers from 11 states and Saskatchewan made up the main event field. Former tour champion Berry, who’d previously raced out of North Dakota and already well acquainted with victory lane at Jamestown, didn’t take long to catch lapped traffic after each early restart.
