Mather makes it three straight at Indee

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (July 6) – Chris Simpson and Dallon Murty kicked off the Buchanan County Fair with $1,000 IMCA feature wins Tuesday night. Simpson, already on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot, made it look easy in the 25-lapper for IMCA Modifieds at Independence Motor Speedway. From his pole position start, Simpson pulled away early and then survived a pair of cautions to score the win ahead of Mike Burbridge. Joel Rust came from a mid-pack start to finish third ahead of Troy Cordes and Derrick Stewart in the 26-car field. Murty took top honors in the 20-lap thriller for the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars.  Johnny Spaw led that 23-car field to green and held the point throughout the first half of the event while closely pursued by Phil Holtz and Cole Mather.  Murty made his way into the mix and slid past both Mather and Holtz on the eighth lap to secure second. By Jerry Mackey INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (Aug. 1) – Saturday was a very special night at the Independence Motor Speedway as the Iowa Donor Network night brought 138 race teams to the track racing for a huge purse thanks to all the hard work by the Donor Network volunteers. The huge crowd on hand was treated to an outstanding night of racing with near perfect weather conditions providing a great racing experience.  Curt Martin has been racing at his hometown track for five decades, taking his first green flag in 1978, when he started racing midway through the season. Saturday night saw Martin win his unprecedented 13th track championship with championships being recorded in five consecutive decades. Martin came into Saturday night holding a slim four-point lead in the season-long IMCA Sunoco Late Model point standings ahead of Jeff Aikey. With Aikey finishing sixth in the main event and Martin trailing Aikey in eighth, the title went to Martin by two points over Aikey. By Jerry Mackey INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (July 25) – Rydell Auto Parts held Customer Appreciation Night on Satur­day night at the Independence Motor Speedway and fans were treated to an IMCA Sunoco Late Model feature that had everyone on the edge of their seats.  The field took the green flag with Curran Beckler setting the pace in the early going. Sean John­son, Curt Martin and Jeff Aikey were making their way to the front to set up a battle for the ages.  The trio swapped the lead several times late in the race with the lead changing hands every cor­ner. Aikey led at the white flag only to have both Johnson and Martin get back by on the back chute. At the checkers it was Johnson by a very narrow margin over Martin and Aikey.   The IMCA Modified 20-lap feature was led early by Josh Barta before Troy Cordes took over the top spot.
