$1,100 to win special awaits United Rebel Sprint Series this Saturday

CALHAN, Colo. – The only trip into the state of Colorado takes place this coming Saturday night as the POWRi Lucas Oil United Rebel Sprint Series presented by Mel Hambelton Ford Racing makes its annual appearance at El Paso County Speedway in Calhan.  

Rain has washed out three events thus far this season while Luke Cranston (two), Jake Martens and Jason Martin having taken home victories this 2019 race season. 

Courtesy of Kevin Schramek, Schramek Landscaping is adding $500 to the purse with the extra $100 going to positions 1-5, making this a $1,100-to-win event.  

Twenty-two previous events have been held at El Paso County Speedway with Brian Hardman and Adam Trimble having won here four times. Other feature winners include Jake Bubak (three), Pat­rick Bourke (two), Smokey Fairbank, Blake Smith, Mike Hathaway, Clint Schubert, Mike Tay­lor, Mark Walinder, John Jacob, Coby Pearce and Zach Blurton.

Blurton won this event last year.    

Gates open at 3 p.m. with race action slated for a 5 p.m. start time. Grandstand admission is $15 while all seniors and military general admission tickets are $10. Kids ages 6-12 years are $5 while five and under will be admitted into the grandstands for free.

Blurton tops URSS finale at Oberlin Bob Salem Memorial

OBERLIN, Kan. (Aug. 14-15) – The runner-up on opening night was the winner on night two, when the Mel Hambelton Ford Racing Lucas Oil POWRi United Rebel Sprint Series traveled to Oberlin Speedway for the Bob Salem Memorial. Zach Blurton topped the Saturday show for IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars after passing Koby Wal­ters for the front spot on the 14th of 25 circuits. Jake Martens, Walters, Monty Ferriera, and Jed Werner rounded out the top five.  Monty Ferriera took off with the early lead and stretched his advantage to about eight car-lengths before slipping off of the track and passing the lead position to Walters. Lap 14 found Blurton riding around the top of turn two to get past Walters for the lead while Ferri­era worked his way back into fourth. Bob Salem Memorial next for United Rebel Sprint Series

OBERLIN, Kan. – The Bob Salem Memorial is on tap for the Drive to Zero POWRi United Rebel Sprint Series Presented by Mel Hambelton Ford Racing. The event is held dear to series promoter Rick Salem, as a race honoring his late father. This year along with Salem is a tribute to Tosha Garrison, who was a beloved fan of the series and dirt track racing in general. Racing action will take place atop the ⅜-mile oval of Oberlin Speedway in Oberlin, Kan., on Friday, Aug. 13 and Saturday, Aug. 14. Races are slated to begin at 7 p.m. both nights, with general admission $15 for adults, children ages 7-12 for $5, and children 6 and under free of charge. An extra $50 has been added to start the feature event both nights, bumping Friday’s feature to $200 to start and Saturday’s feature paying $250 to start. United Rebel Sprint Series opening weekend at RPM’s Classic Weekend

 By David Smith, Jr., OKTidbits PR HAYS, Kansas – The 15th consecutive season for the Lucas Oil POWRi United Rebel Sprint Se­ries presented by Mel Hambelton Ford Racing kicks off in just three-short weeks as the tour will head to RPM Speedway in Hays, Kan., for a weekend doubleheader. Set for Friday and Saturday, March 27-28, the annual Mike Hughes Sunflower Classic Memorial presented by Nutrien Ag Solutions will see both night shows paying $1,000 to win. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, E3 Spark Plugs Kansas State and series points will be awarded. A huge car count is expected with drivers from Nebraska, Oklahoma and Colorado indicating their in­tentions on competing with their Kansas counterparts. Westhold Transponders and RACEceivers are required and the track is asking all teams compet­ing to pit in a group on the west side of the main pit area. There will be an open practice session for all cars Thursday, March 26 with pit gates opening at 2 p.m. and practice from 6-10 p.m.
