Twin Highbanks Hustle this Thursday, Friday at Marshalltown

By Joyce Eisele MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (April 12, 2024) – Kelly Shryock already has 5,000 reasons to celebrate the start of his 40th racing season. The veteran from Fertile topped Friday’s King of the Highbanks main event for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars at Marshalltown Speedway, taking the $5,000 checkers ahead of defending race winner Jeffrey Abbey. Now guaranteed a starting spot in the B & B Racing Chassis All-Star Invitational, Shryock started from the pole and took the lead as the race went green, with Dallon Murty in second and Boyd, Texas charger Abbey third. Those three ran closely in the opening portion of the race, with Murty seeking high and low for a way around Shryock and Abbey just waiting for a bobble from either. At halfway, it was still the same running order for the top three but seventh place starter Cole Czarneski had joined them and was giving chase. MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa – While it’s still going to be an event for the IMCA history book, the chapter on the upcoming Dale DeFrance Memorial just won’t get written when originally scheduled.  Featuring both the 500th and final race in IMCA Late Model Summer Series history and a Speed Shift TV Dirt Knights Tour program for IMCA Modifieds, the Marshalltown Speedway special has been postponed from May 7 to Tuesday, June 9.  “We remain committed to the health and well-being of everyone who is a part of race programs at Marshalltown Speedway, as a driver, crew member, spectator or track worker,” said promoter Toby Kruse. “We’ll follow guidelines or recommendations that are in place from the state for all weekly and special events.”  IMCA Late Model Ironman Darrel DeFrance will complete his perfect attendance streak in the Summer Series finale at his hometown track. By Joyce Eisele MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (Aug. 18, 2023) – It was North 3rd Avenue Dairy Queen Larry Wollam Season Championship Night at the Marshalltown Speedway on Friday.  Feature wins went to Todd Shute in the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified division. It was Austin Kaplan winning the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car main event and Logan Anderson took the honors in the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods. Bradly Graham won the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature, and Joe Glick won the Stealth Racing IMCA STARS Mod Lites and Mitchell Bunch saw checkers in the Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compacts. Only one feature winner of the night was also crowned a track champion, that being Shute in the Modifieds.   Sport Compacts were the first on the track for their 15-lap feature and Mitchell Bunch led all 15 laps on his way to the checkered flag. He had pulled away from the field when a yellow flew at lap 10. This put Kolby Sabin on his tail for the restart. Bunch maintained his lead when the race went green, but a couple of laps later, [Read More]
