McBirnie, Knutson, Cochrun, Sabin are first-time winners at Marshalltown

By Joyce Eisele MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (June 4) – After four straight weather outs, Marshalltown Speedway came back to life on a beautiful Friday night and new winners found their way to victory lane in the IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, IMCA STARS Mod Lites and Mach-1 Sport Compacts.  The Modifieds ran their 20-lap main event caution free.  Pole sitter Jake McBirnie led flag to flag on his way to victory.  He was challenged most of the distance by Ethan Braaksma but to no avail, with Braaksma taking the runner up spot. Trailing a distant third was Dylan Thornton. Eric Knutson took the lead on lap one, weathered the yellow flags, and led all laps to capture the Hobby Stock win. Eleventh place starter Kaden Reynolds made it interesting in the closing laps, but had to be content with a close second place finish. Carter Koop came from 12th to finish third. Three Memorial Weekend Cornbelt Clash dates for IMCA STARS Mod Lites

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa – Memorial Weekend Cornbelt Clash dates take IMCA STARS Mod Lites to Marshalltown Speedway, Boone Speedway and Stuart Speedway for $500 to win features each night. A minimum of $100 will be paid to start each May 28, 29 and 30 feature with a $30 entry fee each night.  Marshalltown opens the gates at 5:15 p.m. with racing at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Gates at Boone open at 3:30 p.m. and Saturday racing starts at 6 p.m. and on Sunday, gates at Stuart open at 5 p.m. and racing follows 7 p.m. hot laps.  The Yoshimura bonus will be paid on Sunday, with $250 going to the winner, $150 to the runner-up and $100 to the third place driver. The driver racing all three nights and finishing with the top point total also takes home $100 in cash. Other awards will be given by Hoosier Tire and Rod End Supply. Kay collects career 100th IMCA Late Model win at Dale DeFrance Memorial

By Joyce Eisele MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (May 6) – Justin Kay stole the spotlight Thursday night, in one of the biggest IMCA Sunoco Late Model events of the season. Kay complemented his career 100th win in the division with a check for $1,925 at Marshalltown Speedway’s fourth annual Dale DeFrance Memorial. The headline event of the evening, held in honor of the patriarch of the well-known racing family, was 44 laps. Peterson prevails on Cliff Chambers Memorial Night at Marshalltown

By Joyce Eisele MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (April 30) – It was UAW Local 893 and Cliff Chambers Memorial night at the Marshalltown Speedway Friday. Josh May took home the trophy in the IMCA STARS Mod Lite 15-lap event, leading all but the first lap of the feature. May started fourth, got to the front quickly and had no trouble in keeping a substantial lead throughout the race. He finished well ahead of second place Joel Huggins. Third went to Randy Bryan. Tony Olson led the first seven laps of the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod main with Johnathon Logue in hot pursuit. After several challenges, Logue made it stick and took over the top position on lap seven. Olson would not go away, however, momentarily taking back the top spot, only to have Logue snatch it back. Marshalltown Speedway primed for May 6 Dale DeFrance Memorial

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa – Marshalltown Speedway rolls out the red carpet for six IMCA divisions at its Thursday, May 6 Dale DeFrance Memorial.  More than $10,000 in cash, plus product and product certificate awards have already been added to the pursed for the fourth annual event, headlined by IMCA Sunoco Late Models in a minimum $1,500 to win feature.  IMCA Modifieds run for a minimum of $1,000 to win along with a spot on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods both run for a minimum of $500 to win, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks for a minimum of $300 and IMCA STARS Mod Lites for a minimum of $250. Pit gates open at 5:15 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5:30 p.m. Hot laps are at 6:55 p.m. with racing to follow.  Spectator admission is $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and free for kids ages 10 and under. Marshalltown recognizes 2020 champions on opening night for 2021 points

By Joyce Eisele MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (April 23) – Marshalltown Speedway held its first 2021 track points racing on Friday, presented by Iowa Air Barrier, and Sleeping Angels Fundraiser Night.  It was also Driver Apprecia­tion Night where last year’s track champions were recognized on the front stretch before racing action began.  Those track champions were Tom Berry in the IMCA Modifieds, who went on to also be IMCA national champion of the division. IMCA Sunoco Stock Car track champion was Dallon Murty, the Karl Kustoms Northern Northern SportMod track title went to Johnathon Logue and the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock cham­pion was Solomon Bennett.   Joel Huggins picked up where he left off last week, taking home the win in the IMCA STARS Mod Lite feature.  Huggins led the entire 15 laps on his way to victory.  Randy Bryan chased Huggins across the finish line to take the runner-up spot.  A close third went to Josh May, Bryan Zehm was fourth and Mike Kennedy took fifth.   In the 20-lap Northern SportMod feature, Austin Schrage came from fourth [Read More]

King of the Highbanks rained out

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa – Rain and the resulting wet track conditions are officially  winners of The King of the Highbanks special for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars at Marshalltown Speedway. IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods and IMCA STARS Mod Lites join the Stocks on the April 16 card at Marshalltown. Driver Appreciation Night has been moved to April 23.

It’s Carter in a breeze in IMCA Modified main event at Marshalltown Frostbuster

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (April 2) – Cayden Carter collected a second IMCA Modified win in as many Frostbuster starts on a brisk Friday evening at Marshalltown Speedway.  One hundred and ninety-four cars, 53 Modifieds among them, saw action on the Highbanks. The 25-lap main event ran green after a caution on the initial start and Carter led all but the first circuits, leading Kyle Brown into and through lapped traffic before taking the $1,000 checkers.  “The draw helped a lot and we had a good, smooth track to run on,” said Carter, also the Frostbuster winner at Stuart and already a Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational candidate. “We had a good car again tonight. IMCA Stock Cars chase $5,000 King of the Highbanks check at Marshalltown

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa – The fabled highbanks of Marshalltown Speedway are the setting for the $5,000 to win King of the Highbanks special for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars Thursday and Friday, April 8 and 9.  Stock Cars will run two sets of heats on Thursday with the top 10 in points locked into Friday’s main event. Entry fee for the weekend is $100. IMCA Modifieds race for $1,000 to win their Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifiers with a $20 entry fee each night. Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks both race for $500 each night and IMCA Stars Mod Lites complete the Friday card.  Pit gates open at 4 p.m. and racing starts at 7:15 p.m. both nights.
