Voting begins today to determine Fast Shafts All-Star field

BOONE, Iowa (July 21) – Voting begins this evening (Monday) to determine the starting field for Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. Three drivers from each of the five IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified regions will be elected through round one electronic polling conducted on the IMCA Facebook page through the end of the business day next Monday, July 28. All-Star candidates will be listed by region; one vote can be cast for one driver per region each day. Thirteen more All-Stars will be elected through round two, also via the IMCA Facebook page, between Tuesday, July 29 and Tuesday, Aug. 5. Winners will be notified and their names announced as soon as possible after each round of voting. Huls, Dunker and Becerra hold Quincy checkers

By Jack Walbring QUINCY, Ill. (July 20) – Abe Huls, Tony Dunker and Austin Becerra all took feature event wins at Quincy Raceways on Sunday. Huls took the win in the Powder Coat Plus IMCA Stock Car main event after a huge battle with Brandon Savage and Jake Powers. Powers, Savage and Huls crossed the finish line three wide at the white flag mark with Huls edging ahead during the final lap to take the win. Savage scored the second spot with Powers in third. Tanner Klingele looked like he was well on his way to the Summy Tire and Auto Center IMCA Northern SportMod feature event win but a caution flag on the 15th lap brought Dunker to his rear bumper on the restart. Dunker powered past Klingele on the high side on the restart and went on to take the feature win with Klingele settling for second. Brad Holtmeyer came home in third. Fourth Seymour win comes Sunday for Czarapata

By Dave Panske SEYMOUR, Wis. (July 20) – Jason Czarapata raced to his fourth local Budweiser IMCA Modified feature win of the season Sunday at Seymour Speedway. Tyler Wilson grabbing the lead at the start. A seven-lap green stretch had Jamie Schmidt, Czarapata, Mike Wedelstadt and Eric Arneson battling behind Wilson and the rookie did an excellent job holding the lead while running the high line. Cautions on laps 12 and 13 bunched the field. Wilson again took the lead, but this time Czarapata was able to make a run on the inside stick as he pulled into the top spot on lap 16, and over the final four laps pulled away from the field. A lone caution on the original start of the Coors Light IMCA Stock Car set up a flag-to-flag run for the 21-car field. IMCA Modifieds headline July 24 Red Willow County Fair show

McCOOK, Neb. – One thousand dollars and a spot on the 2015 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot are at stake for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds in the Thursday, July 24 fair special at Red Willow County Raceway. Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods run for $750 to win and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars for $500 to win. Payouts are based on 20-car fields; the event is promoted by the Red Willow County Fair Board which is guaranteeing payouts. All applicable points, including local track points, will be awarded for the draw/redraw show. No entry fee or track registration fee is required. Gates at McCook open at 5 p.m., hot laps are at 6 p.m. and racing starts at 7:30 p.m. Grandstand admission is $12 for adults, $5 for kids ages 6-12 and free for five and under. Pit passes are $30. Gottschalk scores second straight at Salina

(July 18) – Starting from outside the fifth row, winning the M & H Motors IMCA Northern SportMod main event Friday at Salina Speedway was the furthest thing from Daniel Gottschalk’s mind. A strong finish would have made him happy but sometimes being ‘just’ happy isn’t good enough. After posting the win one week ago, Gottschalk carried some momentum heading into the feature. Kamren Gruber posted the early lead during the main event but as usual the pack of cars that started in the middle half of the field were marching to the front. Gottschalk was on fire as he blew past the competition. One by one he worked his way into position for the top spot. Gottschalk took over the top spot and kept his hot streak alive picking up his second straight win and third of the season. CRYSTAL, Mich. (July 19) – Myron DeYoung went home with the Saturday night win in the Port City Race Car IMCA Modified division at Crystal Motor Speedway. Brody Bowser, A.J. Ward, John DeYoung Jr. and Brenten DeYoung rounded out the top five.

Armstrong ends long absence from victory lane

By Greg Soukup EAGLE, Neb. (July 19) – Roy Armstrong’s dry spell ended Saturday night at Eagle Raceway. Armstrong took the lead three laps into the Valentino’s IMCA Hobby Stock main event and stayed in front to the finish for his first checkered flag of 2014. “It’s been a long time. We’ve had a long dry spell,” the four-time and defending track champion admitted from victory lane. “Lots of bad luck and a few driver mistakes in there … I broke a shock with 2 to go and thought I had a flat, so I slowed down a little to be sure I could finish.” Johnny Saathoff was the Kaplan University IMCA Modified winner and Jason Martin was first across the finish line in the Mud In America Racesaver IMCA Sprint Car main. Benji Legg was best in the NAPA IMCA Northern SportMod feature. Justin Olsen prevailed in the Sam’s Club IMCA Sport Compact main.

Lamberies repeats at Shawano

By Scott Owen SHAWANO, Wis. (July 19) – Lucas Lamberies repeated his winning ways in Saturday’s Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature at Shawano Speedway. Lamberies shot from his sixth place starting spot into the lead on lap one. Wyatt Block, Tracy Wassenberg and Joey Taycher chased Lamberies for the lead until a lap 14 caution slowed the field. On the ensuing restart, Block got too high in turns one and two and hit the wall, ending his night and bringing out another yellow flag. On lap 15, Taycher raced past Wassenberg for second. Over the final five laps, Taycher pressured Lamberies for the lead. The pair ran side-by-side with Lamberies expertly following the outside line to his second consecutive victory. Taycher had to settle for second. Picking up their first local wins of the season were Mark Weisnicht in the IMCA Modifieds and Brandon Czarapata in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars. Next week is Shawano Speedway Hall Of Fame night. Jerry “Medina” Smith and Cubbly Lamberies will be honored. Racing begins at 6:30 p.m.

McGee tops 34 Modified main event

By Dana Royer WEST BURLINGTON, Iowa (July 19) – Dean McGee picked up his first Ryner Transportation IMCA Modified feature of the season at 34 Raceway on Saturday night. Darrow Lillie and Dustan Fenton sat on the front row but it was McGee taking the lead on the first lap of the 20-lap race. McGee led the entire race, first holding off Mitch Morris, then Jeff Waterman. The yellow flag came out with one lap to go. With Bill Roberts in the third spot behind McGee and Waterman, the yellow worked to his advantage as he moved into the second spot and challenged McGee on the final lap. The two crossed the finish line bumper to bumper with McGee holding off Roberts for the win. The Pepsi IMCA Stock Cars capped off the night with a thriller. Havel swipes Thunderhill victory from Suckocki

(July 19) – Shawn Havel hustled around Jamie Suchocki late in the going to earn his third feature win of the season Saturday at Thunderhill Raceway in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car division. When the green flag dropped it was veteran Ford racer Tony Bouche leading the field and riding the top groove. Suchocki sprinted from row three and into second where he put the pressure on Bouche down low. Suchocki grabbed the top spot on lap five but Bouche wasn’t letting go as he raced door to door for the lead. Lap after lap, Suchocki led by a fender at the line. Title contender Shawn Havel was able to work his way to third and then set his sights on the lead duo. Just as Havel caught the leaders Bouche slid high off of turn three, costing him a good finish.
