Duel In The Desert pre-entries now at 230

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (Oct. 31) – Pre-entries for the Duel In The Desert special at Las Vegas Motor Speedway continue to run ahead of last year’s pace, with 230 IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified and IMCA SportMod drivers on the roster for the Nov. 6-9 special. Early entries are in hand from 185 Modified drivers from 19 states and three Canadian provinces. SportMod entries number 45 and were postmarked from a dozen states and two provinces. Modifieds race for $7,777 to win and a minimum of $777 to start their Saturday, Nov. 9 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier. Preliminary features on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 7 and 8 both pay $777 to win. Both Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center Southern SportMods will compete in the same races with the existing rules for each division. $5,000 is top IMCA Modified prize at Central Arizona’s Cactus Classic

CASA GRANDE, Ariz. (Oct. 29) – IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds will run for a top prize of $5,000 at Central Arizona Raceway’s inaugural Cactus Classic special Friday-Sunday, Nov. 22-24. The top five cars from Friday and Saturday qualifying features advance to Sunday’s main event. Last-chance qualifying on Sunday fills out the grid for the 24-car headliner. Sunday’s show is a 2014 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier and pays a minimum of $400 to start. There is no entry fee. Tow money for non-qualifiers who race all three days is $100. Pit passes are $25 and grandstand admission is free for the 6-9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21 open practice. Gates and the grandstand open at 3 p.m. and racing starts at 6 p.m. Friday. Cash, license awarded in Duel Best Appearing Car contest

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified driver winning XSAN Best Appearing Car presented by Wells Design voting during the Duel In The Desert won’t have to go to the casino to hit it big. Voting will be conducted during the Nov. 6-9 Duel via the XSAN Facebook page. XSAN, which will televise the 16th annual event at the half-mile Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, will pay the top vote getter $500. Second place will be good for $300 and third place $200. Allen proves up to Challenge at Abilene

Allen won Saturday’s IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified main event at Abilene Speedway’s Ryan Bard Memorial Southern Challenge. He took off from the pole, was fast right out of the gate and earned $3,000, plus a spot on the ballot for the 2014 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. National champion William Gould started outside the front row and looked to have one of the cars that might have something for Allen. Before halfway, the front pair had pulled away from the rest of the field by a straightway. Gould kept the pressure on Allen while Jerry Harpole, Chris Elliott, Josh McGaha and Keith White battled well behind them. World Products Empire State Series returns to Black Rock for Dutch Hoag National Open

DUNDEE, N.Y. – Round six of the World Products Empire State Series takes IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds to Black Rock Speedway this Saturday, Oct. 26. The Dutch Hoag National Open feature pays $500 to win and a minimum of $100 to start. Grandstand admission is $20 for adults, $18 for seniors, $5 for students ages 6-16 and free for five and under. Pit passes are $35. Entry fee is $20. Final four rookie winners get Speedway Motors gift cards

LINCOLN, Neb. – The final four IMCA rookies winning career-first features during the 2013 point season have received $100 gift cards from Speedway Motors. Tom Quint won the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod main event at I-76 Speedway on Sept. 21. First-time Mach-1 Sport Compact winners were Taylor Kuper, at Hancock County Speedway on June 7; Kyren Porter, at Arlington Raceway on Sept. 21; and Richard Sides, at Summit Raceway on Sept. 27. In all, 87 rookie drivers received gift cards from Speedway Motors this season.

Four regional champions new to Fast Shafts All-Star ballot

VINTON, Iowa – Four of the five IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified regional champions crowned this season are additions to the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. National and BillsBuilt South Central Region king William Gould, Larry Shaw Racing Western Region champion Zane DeVilbiss, Belleville Motorsports North Central Region champion Jesse Sobbing and Dirt Works Eastern Region champion Chris Fleming are now vote-eligible for 2014. Jet Racing Central Region titleist Jeremy Frenier was already qualified. DeVilbiss had won both Castle Country Clash features at Desert Thunder Raceway and Frenier won a Flatlander feature at Sherman County Speedway before the point season ended; Gould paced the Showdown main event at Kennedale Speedway Park afterwards. Corneliusen captures October prize for non-fendered contest

DICKINSON, N.D. – Rusty Corneliusen ended his ninth IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified season with October honors in the Sybesma Graphics Facebook Fan Favorite contest for the non-fendered classes. A regular at his hometown Southwest Speedway this season, he’ll receive a mini-mod door from contest sponsor Sybesma Graphics. “I always liked Modifieds and always wanted to get into one,” said Corneliusen, who ran a WISSOTA street stock and a non-sanctioned hobby stock before getting into the open wheeled division. “I really like the competition. There are a lot of good drivers in this class and when you can race with them, it makes you feel pretty good.” “The cars are a lot of fun when they’re working right,” he added. Shipman sails to fendered first in October Fan Favorite contest

MASON CITY, Iowa – The good news just keeps coming for Travis Shipman.
