North Star Touring Series makes Iowa debut at Kossuth County

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (June 4) – Five IMCA drivers wrote their name in the record book as winners of the first North Star Touring Series features held in Iowa Thursday night. Austin Wolf, Derek Green, Jared Boumeester, Brandon Nielsen and Nate Coopman were main event winners in front of the biggest crowd of the season at Kossuth County Speedway. Wolf took charge in the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified headliner after early leader Shane DeMey got into the guardrail on lap eight. Kyle Brown ran out of laps and settled for second while Eric Dailey ended in third. After two early restarts, Green motored to the high side, took the lead from Dan Mackenthun and checked out on the rest of the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car field. Jake Masters prevailed in a four-car battle for second. Third went to Kevin Opheim. After taking the lead on the 10th circuit, the 10th starting Boumeester led the final five laps in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod contest. IMCA’s Centennial Season is theme for Super Nationals Best Looking Car contest

BOONE, Iowa – IMCA is celebrating its centennial in 2015 and the 100th anniversary season will be the theme for the best looking car contest at the upcoming IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. All drivers in the six divisions competing with centennial themed cars at Boone Speedway over the course of the Sept. 7-12 Super Nationals receive $100 gift cards from title sponsor Speedway Motors. Hobby Stock and Northern SportMod themed cars will be judged on the front stretch during the Tuesday, Sept. 8 program. Modified and Stock themed cars will be judged during pre-race ceremonies on Saturday, Sept. 12. IMCA clarifies wheel rule for Mach-1 Sport Compacts

VINTON, Iowa – IMCA is clarifying its wheel rule for Mach-1 Sport Compacts. OEM wheels with 13-16 inch diameters, with varying offsets and bolt patterns are allowed. However, no alterations can be made to the wheel, hub, brakes or front suspension can be made for any reason. When discovered in post-race tech, the result will be a disqualification. “It has come to our attention that some competitors have been making alterations to make the wheels fit,” said IMCA Competition Director Tom Gutowski, “potentially jeopardizing the structural integrity of any or all of those components.” “Altering the wheel creates potentially dangerous scenarios. Sport Compact rules require the use of OEM wheels,” he continued, “and we allow those wheels to be reinforced per the rules but no other alterations are allowed. The OEM wheel must fit the make and model of the car and if it has to be altered to fit, it should not be used.” Questions about the Sport Compact wheel rule can be directed to Gutowski or Director of Division Development Dave Brenn.

Broken record: Rain cancel Salina Speedway races for tonight

(June 5) — What was an optimistic outlook for the week on Monday has turned into another humble Friday as heavy overnight rains will force Salina Speedway to remain silent yet again tonight (Friday). More than three inches of precipitation has fallen since midnight with more in the forecast. Promoter Tommy Hendrickson surveyed the damage early Friday morning to find the pit area looking like the Everglades, while the track and infield probably didn’t look much better. Racing is scheduled to resume next Friday, June 12. The Auto House Mod Lite division will highlight the evening with a makeup feature for the May 22 rainout first, along with a complete show. Also in action will be the 1st Class Chassis IMCA Modifieds, Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Northern SportMods, Budweiser IMCA Hobby Stocks, and M&H Motors IMCA Sport Compacts.

VanDenBerg scores IMCA Modified win at Southern Iowa

By Jeremy Fox OSKALOOSA, Iowa (June 3) – Carter VanDenBerg picked up the Musco Lighting IMCA Modified feature win Wednesday at Southern Iowa Speedway. Scott Dickey held VanDenBerg at bay until the fifth circuit. Andrew Schroeder took away the runner-up spot before the checkers came out. The hometown track victory was the first for VanDenBerg, who’d won previously at Lee County Speedway. Fans who like frequent lead changes got their money’s worth as they saw five of them in the Pepsi Cola IMCA Hobby Stock main event. Craig Brown and Mike Kincaid race side-by-side the final lap and it was Kincaid winning his first at Osky by mere inches at the line. Brown finished a very close second and Aaron Martin was third. Zack VanderBeek started sixth and raced to his third local Budweiser IMCA Stock Car win of the season. Twelfth starting Cayden Carter was second and 17th starting Damon Murty was third. Saturday show at Jackson next for North Star Touring Series

JACKSON, Minn. – Saturday’s IMCA’s North Star Tour show sees five IMCA divisions back in a familiar series setting. Jackson Speedway is site of the June 6 card featuring Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Mach-1 Sport Compacts. Pit gates open at 4:30 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5 p.m. Hot laps are at 6:30 p.m. with racing to follow. Lockwood, Potter prevail at Sunset Speedway Park

(May 30) – Sunset Speedway Park had a packed house Saturday for Budweiser Night and Doug Lockwood blazed the trail for his first Budweiser IMCA Modified feature win of the season. Danny O’Neil ran a great race before Lockwood caught up for the lead just past the halfway mark. Lockwood led the rest of the way, taking the checkers ahead of O’Neil, Kenny Miller, Matt Jenner and Craig Cassell. The Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature proved to be a thriller as Pamela Graham and Randy O’Connor were side-by-side or bumper-to-bumper late in the contest. Unfortunately, the two got together on the final lap, opening the door for Jim Potter to take the lead and eventual win. Potter became the third different winner in as many Northern SportMod races this season at Banks. Graham salvaged second and O’Connor third.

Grabouski garners Dawson County honors

LEXINGTON, Neb. (May 31) – Jordan Grabouski, Chad Dolan, Mike Nichols and Jacob Olmstead all punched their ticket to the IMCA winner’s circle Sunday at Dawson County Raceway. Grabouski led the final six laps and took top honors in the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature, holding onto the position despite the late-race efforts of hard-charging Colton Osborn. Jay Steffens led the first 13 circuits and ended in third. Dolan topped his second straight Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature after gaining the lead at midway. Second was Steve Kempt and Jamey Kennicutt worked through traffic for third. Nichols also won his second straight Lexington feature, in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car division. He took the point on lap 11 and collected the checkers ahead of Casey Woken and initial leader Kyle Clough. Cottage Grove hosts June 6 Kids Night

Curtis Towns joined the winner’s list for Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds last week. Jesse Williamson and Kinzer Cox are still tied atop the 2015 chart with two wins each. Braedon Hand has also won once. Pit gates open at 2 p.m., the front gates open at 4 p.m. and racing starts at approximately 6:45 p.m. Saturday.
