IMCA Modifieds fill growing niche at Carter’s Mohave Valley Raceway

MOHAVE VALLEY, Ariz. – Walt Carter was so sure the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds would find their niche at his new Mohave Valley Raceway in 1993 that he agreed to sanction the class knowing there weren’t even any local cars in the class at the time. More than two decades later, Mohave Valley is now the longest continuously sanctioned race track in Arizona. The 1/3-mile clay venue has averaged 23 Modified entries for its first seven every-other-Saturday night shows so far in 2015. “I met with (former IMCA president) Kathy Root, liked what she had to say, told her I was in it for the long haul and I’ve been sanctioned for 23 years,” said Carter, who prefers the title track owner and operator to that of promoter. “I jumped on early because I saw the value in what I call a spec car. I looked at the Modified as a division that wouldn’t be going away. I hitched my future to the IMCA Modified.” After managerial stints at Riverside International Raceway in California, [Read More]

Mother Nature wins again at Salina Speedway

By Dusty Wiegert SALINA, Kan. — A soaking rain shower Friday morning leaves Salina Speedway silent again on Friday, May 15. As of late Thursday evening, after more than an inch of rain the previous night, the pits and infield had begun to dry and things looked hopeful for racing to return after a two-week, weather-related hiatus. That all changed Friday morning when a developing system moved in and dumped a large amount of rain on the speedway in a short amount of time. With an ever-changing forecast and more cloud cover there would not be enough time to dry things out, so racing will have to wait another week. Next Friday, May 22 will feature the BSB Manufacturing NeSmith Late Models, 1st Class Chassis IMCA Modifieds, Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Northern SportMods, Auto House Mod Lites, and Budweiser IMCA Hobby Stocks. The night will again be sponsored by Will Electric and Glass Masters.

Prauner picks up three wins at Off Road Speedway

By Randy Pospishil NORFOLK, Neb. (May 9) – The second week of racing at Off Road Speedway featured a full slate of races, plus the conclusion of the previous week’s rain-interrupted program. The result was a rare opportunity for racers to secure multiple wins and Kyle Prauner took full advantage by completing a ‘hat trick’ of victories, finishing first in the make-up of last week’s Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature before adding wins in week two’s IMCA Sunoco Stock Car and the SportMod features. “It doesn’t happen very often, but not a lot of guys have two cars going,” Prauner said. “We’ve just got both cars humming right along so far. It’s been a good weekend; we won them both with both cars in Albion last night, too.” In other action from last week Tejay Mielke won the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature. In regular week two racing, Mielke benefited from Jeremy Hoskinson’s misfortune in the Hobby Stock feature. Mielke made his way through traffic, then chased Hoskinson for four laps before a restart that [Read More]
