Positive response nets 2016 start for IMCA Northwest SportMod Challenge

PORTLAND, Ore. – Shares of a point fund that already totals $1,200 will be paid to Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod drivers competing at three tracks in Oregon and another in northern California. Northwest SportMod Challenge standings will be determined using a system awarding 10 points for first place down to one point for 10th place on back. Drivers’ 12 best feature finishes during the IMCA regular point season at Cottage Grove Speedway, Southern Oregon Speedway and Sunset Speedway in Oregon and at California’s Siskiyou Motor Speedway will apply. “The IMCA Northern SportMod division is getting bigger and bigger here in the Pacific Northwest,” explained Challenge organizer Steve Kerstulovich. “I was going to spend this year talking to potential sponsors. Southern Iowa Speedway holds regular season opener

By Jeremy Fox OSKALOOSA, Iowa (April 13) – Five drivers tamed the half-mile monster in the regular season opener Wednesday at Southern Iowa Speedway. Cayden Carter and Josh Foster started the 20-lap Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature event on the front row and it was Foster quickly grabbing the top spot and getting out to a commanding lead. A lap 12 caution came out and Foster saw Kelly Shryock and Ricky Thornton Jr. right behind him for the ensuing restart. Foster held them off until the yellow came out again on lap 17, this time for Shyrock in turn four. Thornton got a great restart and took the lead away from Foster. Thornton went on to take the win. Colt Mather finished second, Zack Vander Beek was third, Foster was fourth and Tyler Groenendyk was fifth. Other feature winners were Cayden Carter in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Curtis VanDerWal in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, Nick Ulin in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Shane Evans in the Mach-1 Sport Compacts.

Saturday feature at Legit Speedway pays IMCA Modified winner $1,500

WEST PLAINS, Mo. – There’s a $1,500 check waiting for the winner of Saturday’s Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature at Legit Speedway. A minimum of $100 will be paid to start and all applicable IMCA points will be awarded for the April 16 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier. Pit gates and the grandstand at West Plains both open at 5 p.m. Hot laps are at 6:30 p.m. and racing starts at 7 p.m. Entry fee is $50 and pit passes are $30. Performance Bodies, Five Star Bodies offer new award option to Modified, SportMod drivers

$10 admission special this Saturday at Cottage Grove

The historical ¼-mile clay oval will offer a special $10 grandstand admission for fans ages 13 and up. Classes in action include the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, Clark Printing Extreme Sprints and Quality RV Repair Hornets. The event will be the first time to see the Clark Printing Extreme Sprints and IMCA SportMods in action as the other two divisions participated in last week’s action. CRANDALL, Texas (April 8) – Michael Day became a double winner at Friday’s Sprint Series of Texas event at RPM Speedway. Osborn opens season with Lincoln County checkers

(April 9) – Getting their season started off right with Saturday trips to the winner’s circle at Lincoln County Raceway were Colton Osborn, Jamey Kennicutt, Casey Werkmeister, Jacob Olmstead and Andrew Baumgardner. Starting on the pole and putting on a dominating performance of never relinquishing the lead was Osborn, on his way to scoring the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified win. Osborn weathered the storm of a late caution and then cruised to the victory. Runner-up Jeremy Frenier had started seventh. J.J. Wise took second followed by 11th starting Dustin Smith, Austin Wolf and Ben Kraus. Luke Sathoff held off the challenge by David Smith to take the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car checkers. Calvin Lange ended up in third place with Jim Larson fourth and Devin Smith fifth. Ninth starting Nick Meyer was first across the finish line in the 24-car Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature. Matt Looft finished second with hard-charging Jared Boumeester third. Nate Chodur was fourth and Jerid Ratzke rounded out the top five cars.
