Midweek events at Independence, Kossuth County next for Deery Series

VINTON, Iowa (June 29) – A pair of midweek events are next on the schedule for the 30th annual Deery Brothers Summer Series. Touring IMCA Late Models race for $2,000 to win and a minimum of $300 to start on Wednesday, July 6 at Independence Motor Speedway and Thursday, July 7 at Kossuth County Speedway in Algona. The series is still looking for its first repeat winner as Denny Eckrich, Curt Martin, Scott Fitzpatrick, Joel Callahan, Ray Guss Jr. and Justin Kay all have made their way to victory lane through the first six events. Seven-time champion Jeff Aikey maintains a tenuous hold on the point standings heading to Indee. The $9,325 tour point fund for the first half of the series will be paid to drivers in top 10 standings following the Algona event. Dale Miller Memorial tonight at Independence

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (July 6) – Tonight’s Dale Miller Memorial boasts a $7,000-plus purse for Performance Bodies IMCA Modifieds at Independence Motor Speedway. The second annual event helps kick off the 2016 Buchanan County Fair. The Deery Brothers Summer Series for IMCA Late Models and Albert Auto IMCA Northern SportMods complete the racing program. Miller was a big part of the Independence Motor Speedway racing family until his untimely passing in April of 2015. Miller, an employee of Performance Bodies prior to his passing, was a valuable member of the Josh Sherbon (no. 75 IMCA Modified) race team. His shocking passing affected several members of the IMS racing family. The Dale Miller Memorial was created in 2015 and it has grown ever bigger in 2016. Grimes wins Jamestown’s Fourth of July classic

By Michael Savaloja The Jamestown Sun JAMESTOWN, N.D. (July 4) – Jason Grimes picked a great night to prove what Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds can do at Jamestown Speedway. Grimes rumbled to the front of Monday’s 20-lap feature from the 11th starting position, and he’d put just over a four-second lead between his No. 99 and second place to capture the win and cap the annual Fourth of July Don Wilhelm Stock Car Classic. “Every dog has his day,” said Grimes, after collecting his first feature trophy of the year. “The car has been excellent. I just haven’t had any luck to go with it lately.” Grimes won in front of the best attendance the track has witnessed this summer. Gustin repeats, Wroten also wins at Independence

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (July 2) – It was an exciting as well as history-making night Saturday at Independence Motor Speedway featuring 109 drivers racing two and three wide all night long. After scoring her career first Performance Bodies IMCA Modified win last week at Independence, Jenae Gustin backed it up with her second consecutive win. Ronn Lauritzen started ninth, but drove his way quickly towards the front. Lauritzen applied pressure just prior to the midway point but Gustin would eventually pull away for the win. Lauritzen finished second. JD Auringer crossed the finish line third. R.C. Whitwell made a charge forward in the closing laps to finish fourth. Jason Morehouse rounded out the top five. Leah Wroten worked her way into the lead on lap 11 of the Christie Door Company IMCA Hobby Stock feature. Ken Schrader joins IMCA Modified field at Skyline Raceway Park July 9

CORTLAND, N.Y. – After reading an article about Skyline Raceway Park in Circle Track magazine, Ken Schrader decided he had to visit the Cortland, N.Y., speedplant. He’ll sign autographs, then join the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified regulars at Skyline on the track Saturday, July 9. Pit gates and the grandstand open at 4 p.m. Schrader will meet and greet with race fans during the track’s annual autograph session that precedes hot laps and racing. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Dirt Works Eastern Region, Allstar Performance State and local track points will be awarded. Dakota Classic Tour pre-entries now at 112

MANDAN, N.D. – One hundred and twelve drivers have completed pre-registration for the July 9-14 Kupper Chevrolet Dakota Classic Tour. All Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified features over the course of the 27th annual tour pay $2,200 to win, a minimum of $300 to start and are qualifying events for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. IMCA Sunoco Stock Car features pay $800 to win and a minimum of $125 to take the green. Pre-entries now represent a dozen states and the provinces of Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Pfeifer, Gottschalk repeat at Stockton

By Mike Hughes STOCKTON, Kan. (July 2)—Daniel Gottschalk and Colton Pfeifer made repeat appearances in victory lane in round two of the Kansas Thunder Series Saturday at Rooks County Speedway. Brady Bencken took the early lead in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature but a couple early cautions kept the field close. Pfeifer then took control on lap five and led the remaining distance to win his second series feature. Shay Simoneau chased Pfeifer most of the race but had to settle for second, followed by Jeromy Wagner, Wade Wagenblast and Jace Smith. Gottschalk passed Tyler Watts on lap three of the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod main event and pulled away for his second series win in a caution-free race. Nourse nabs Boone Hobby Stock win

BOONE, Iowa (July 2) – Boone Speedway saw a nice crowd on hand for its weekly show on Saturday night. Mike Van Genderen matched his win from last week in the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds, Donavon Smith returned to the winner’s circle in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Jake McBirnie got his second feature in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and Korbin Nourse was a first-time IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock winner. Nourse grabbed the lead from his outside front row start as soon as the green flag dropped, and threw off the challenges of any competitors on his way to victory. Jordan Peters took second, Dustin Graham third and Eric Stanton was a close fourth. Last week’s winner, Daniel Tasler, led the troops in the opening laps of the Northern SportMod main event. Jacobs, Stolp, Bethke, Beattie victorious at 141

Jeremy Jacobs has been hooked up in his Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified racer the last few weeks. Top five finishes have been easy as pie to the former champion. A win had eluded him until Saturday night. Brandon Long ran up front for the first five laps. Jacobs tried multiple lines around the speedway until he figured it out down low. Jacobs passed Long and was never to be touched again. Long prevailed in a late-race battle over Troy Jerovetz to finish second. Eric Scribner finished fourth while R.M. Brauns, Brown win at West Liberty

By Jerry Mackey WEST LIBERTY, Iowa (July 2) – Saturday night, the West Liberty Raceway hosted the IMCA Weekly Racing Series with the fourth annual Drivers’ Reunion, which featured several drivers from the past on hand as guests of the track. The headliner of the night saw up and comer Jonathan Brauns score his first ever iWireless IMCA Late Model feature win in very convincing fashion. Brauns shot out front from his outside front row start and went on to lead the caution free main event flag to flag.
