Hogge gets LVMS Dirt Track monkey off his back with Friday feature win

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (March 4) – For all his Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified career accomplishments, Friday’s victory at Las Vegas Motor Speedway was a first for Bobby Hogge IV. The Salinas, Calif., veteran raced from 13th starting to win the main event at the half-mile Dirt Track. The victory was his first in the class at LVMS since he started racing at the Duel In The Desert in the 1990s. “It was a good race for us all night. Obviously, racing from 13th was exciting,” said Hogge. “I’ve missed maybe three Duels In the Desert and this was my first win here in a Modified. It’s pretty neat to get that monkey off my back.” The checkers were good for $750 and came in a borrowed ride. A night after sweeping the top three positions, Bill Henderson-owned cars finished 1-2 as Cody Laney repeated as runner-up. Hogge and Laney swapped slide jobs before Hogge took the lead with five circuits left in the 25-lapper. His margin of victory was close to five car lengths. “Once I [Read More]

It’s tradition: Whitwell tops Thursday IMCA Modified main at Dirt Track

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (March 3) – R.C. Whitwell continued one Las Vegas Motor Speedway tradition Thursday night. He’ll look to improve on another Friday. For the third straight year, Whitwell was Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified winner on opening night of the midweek special at the half-mile Dirt Track. He was the night two runner-up there in 2014 and 2015, a trend he hopes to reverse with another $750 checkers. The victory was his first in 10 starts this season. “I’d already won five or six features by this time last year so it felt pretty good to finally get this one,” said Whitwell, who started on the pole and led all 25 laps. “We got into lapped traffic but I was able to zip through without any problems.” Cody Laney and Bobby Hogge IV also drove Bill Henderson-owned cars and finished second and third, respectively. Laney ran out of time to reel in Whitwell and ended some seven car lengths off the pace. Colt Mather and Ethan Dotson completed the top five. Thirty-nine drivers [Read More]

KENNEDALE, Texas (Feb. 27-28) – John Ricketts was the winged winner while Jay Bransom made two trips to victory lane on opening night of Kennedale Speedway Park’s Spring Kick-Off. Bransom was a perfect 4-for-4 on the night, winning both his heat races and the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified and IMCA Sunoco Stock Car features. The fifth-starting Ricketts worked his way to the front just after midway in the Sprint Car 20-lapper. Payne chased him to the checkers, followed by Kyle Jones, White and Marcus Thomas. “I couldn’t have asked for any better start to the season than this,” Ricketts said. “I found good bite on the low side and was able to drive past him (White). Lapped traffic also helped.” “There was an issue later going into three when I got held up by another car and Logan got ahead [Read More]
