Second-year driver wins career first Virginia Sprint Series feature

Coats showed his heat race earlier in the evening was no fluke as he raced to his career first Virginia Sprint Series win in a Fast Friday Feature at Dixieland Speedway. Coats and Bill Rice paced the IMCA EMI RaceSaver Sprint Car field to green before a full house of fans at the coastal Carolina speedway. Coats was out first with Rice up high but on lap three Mike Leraas made his way to second. The pack from the back was starting to pressure the lead duo with Daren Bolac getting there first and getting to second on lap 15 as traffic came into play. Jerald Harris was on Leraas for third as Bolac was pressuring Coats, but it would be for naught as Coats stayed fast and smooth taking the win. Tri-City’s Greased Pig special pays $1,066 to IMCA Modified winner

AUBURN, Mich. – Tri-City Motor Speedway’s sixth annual Greased Pig special is Friday, June 17 and pays the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified winner $1,066. The main event will be 38 laps, pays a minimum of $146 to start and is a qualifying event for the 2016 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Dirt Works Eastern Region, Allstar Performance State and local track points will be awarded. There is no entry fee. WEST LIBERTY, Iowa (June 10) – The Deery Brothers Summer Series and the Hawkeye Dirt Tour pack another 1-2 Tuesday night punch, this time on June 14 at West Liberty Raceway. While the IMCA Late Model tour has made 13 previous visits to West Liberty, most recently when the 30th annual series opened on April 9, next Tuesday’s event marks the first-ever visit there by the tour for Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds. WEBSTER CITY, Iowa – Both Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods shed their roofs for the Tuesday, June 14 Mid-Iowa Topless 50 at Hamilton County Speedway. Modifieds race for $2,000 to win their Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier while Northern SportMods chase a top check of $1,000. Thirty cars will start each main event. Tow money is $100 for Modifieds and $65 for the SportMods. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National and Allstar Performance State points will be awarded in both divisions, as will BMS North Central Region points for the Modifieds. Forecast promising for Sunday show at Seymour

SEYMOUR, Wis. – Seymour Raceway Park is getting set to host a full night of racing on the 1/3-mile banked clay oval on Sunday June 12. A very positive forecast promises the best weather conditions of the season, which has seen three out of four events rained out. The three regular weekly divisions, Coors Light IMCA Stock Cars, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and Street Stocks will be joined by the INEX Dirt Legends cars, making their second appearance of the season. Olson checks out, then cashes $2,000 Davenport SportMod Challenge check

DAVENPORT, Iowa (June 10) – After checking out, Tony Olson was $2,000 richer after winning Friday’s Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod Challenge at Davenport Speedway. Olson didn’t just win, he dominated the 50-lap main event after taking the lead from Wisconsin’s Brandon Schmitt on lap 10. Even in lapped traffic, Olson held a straightaway lead over the rest of the field. Another Wisconsin racer, Jeff Steenbergen, moved up to second and held that spot for more than 30 laps before yielding to Illinois hotshoe Tony Dunker late in the race. Dunker wound up with the runner-up position with Steenbergen holding on to third. Minnesota racer Jared Boumeester was fourth while “B” qualifier Dalton Simonsen rounded out the top five. Burbridge scores win before rain hits Farley

By Jerry Mackey FARLEY, Iowa (June 10) – Racing action went on Friday night at Farley Speedway although the race program was cut short by Mother Nature. The GSI Collision Specialties IMCA Modified feature took to the track as a cold front hit the track. Drivers waged a furious 20-lap feature with the lead pack swelling to four contenders through the midway point. Mike Burbridge drove a flawless race in scoring his first Farley Speedway win of the 2016 season. Burbridge received constant pressure from veteran Jerry Luloff and rookie Austin Moyer. Luloff took second by less than a car length ahead of Moyer. As Burbridge took the checkers the sky opened up and the Out Pace Racing Products IMCA Late Model feature had to be postponed. Brown dominates at Atchison County

(June 10) – Derrick Brown put on a pair of dominating performances, winning both his heat race at Friday’s Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature at Atchison County Raceway. Brown pulled ahead early and never looked back on his way to his first win of the year at Atchison. Rodney Schweizer ended the night second with big mover Steven Bowers Jr. third. Nicholas Carpenter raced his way to fourth with Matt Richards rounding out the top five. IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars again proved the quality of the class at Atchison County Raceway. Josh Steele held the early lead until Brad Whitney passed on the high side. Whitney led until Greg Keuhn dove to the inside, racing side-by-side with Whitney for multiple laps. Keuhn pulled to the front and onto his second victory inside. Whitney ended the night second with hard charger Jim Powell Jr. third. Gene Stigall recovered from an early race mishap to place fourth and Steele was fifth.

DeFrance takes Late Model win at Marshalltown

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (June 10) – Marshalltown Speedway welcomed back the IMCA Late Models Friday, for the second time this week, following up the Deery Brothers Summer Series held on Tuesday. Darrel DeFrance went home with a win on his hometown track, leading all 25 laps. DeFrance set sail and was never challenged on his way to victory. Jerry King chased DeFrance for much of the race to finish as the runner-up. Third place went to Paul Nagel, Justin Mitchell started 10th and finished fourth, and Curtis Glover rounded out the top five. This was the first of eight Late Model races to be held at the High Banks this year. Tim Ward, the visiting Arizonian, won for the first time in the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds, as did Travis Peterson in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods.
