Switch in lines pays off for Callahan

By Rob Hinckley DUBUQUE, Iowa (July 7) – A change of plans for Joel Callahan. The Dubuque veteran switched lines on the fly and took the Eichman’s Bar and Grill IMCA Late Model 25-lap feature Sunday evening on his home track. “I thought it would be a top side track, but that changed,” Callahan said in Dubuque Speedway’s Hoker Trucking/C&W Trucking/Kam Koncepts Victory Circle. “It got treacherous up there so we hooked up down low.” Callahan rolled off fifth and quickly moved into the fray for the point. He moved past Ron Klein on a late restart en route to the win. Luke Goedert also found the bottom to his liking and took second late. Klein, Jeremiah Hurst and Luke Merfeld followed. Berry rides hot streak on the way to opening night Dakota Tour checkers

(July 6) – Tom Berry Jr. has been on fire in North Dakota this season, grabbing five wins in June and seven total victories in weekly races and special events this year. Berry’s eighth IMCA Modified victory of the season was by far the biggest, as the opening circuit of the 30th annual Kupper Chevrolet Dakota Classic Modified Tour at Jamestown Speedway ended up in his hands, along with a $2,400 check and Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot berth. 2014 tour champion Jeff Taylor and 2014 Jamestown winner Justin O’Brien led the 29-car field to green. Jeff Taylor’s car did not fire correctly following an early restart and he fell back and retired from the field. This gave O’Brien the lead on a track where he has had past success. Bubak wires Belleville field for fourth URSS victory of season

(July 4) – Jake Bubak took the lead at the start and never looked back to claim the Lucas Oil POWRi United Rebel Sprint Series presented by Mel Hambelton Ford Racing special in Independence Day at the Belleville High Banks Speedway. J.D. Johnson and Bubak started on the front row for the 20-lap feature with Bubak quickly taking the lead as the green flag fell. Johnson, Ty Williams, Jake Martens and Zach Blurton were the top five after the first lap was complete. Williams and Martens passed Johnson for second and third, respectively, on lap two as Bubak set sail on the rest of the field. Bubak cruises the distance to claim his series-leading fourth feature victory of the season. His victory was worth $1000. Williams was a strong second while Martens came home third. BAPS hosts co-sanctioned IMCA RaceSaver show this Saturday

By Frank Buhrman YORK HAVEN, Pa. – The Pennsylvania Sprint Series will be joined by the Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series for co-sanctioned racing at BAPS Motor Speedway in York Haven Saturday, July 6. Racing is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. This will be the fifth PASS IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car event at BAPS this season. Zach Newlin has won two of the previous four, with single wins for Cale Reigle and John Walp. This is the first of three co-sanctioned events at the track. Ken Duke currently leads PASS point standings, as well as national standings for the division, with Newlin in second. Doug Dodson, Reigle and Devin Adams round out the top five. The Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series (MASS) races at tracks in eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware.

Smith starts new Kyle Suter Memorial win streak

ALTA, Iowa (July 3) – David Smith started a new streak Wednesday night at Buena Vista Raceway. Smith led the last eight circuits in topping the Kyle Suter Memorial for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars at Alta. He’s now won the event “eight or nine times,” including a streak of five in a row from 2013-2017. “This is always a good one to win,” said Smith, who banked $1,500 following the victory, also the fourth installment of the Arnold Motor Supply Midwest Madness Tour. “It’s getting harder to win any more. The competition is so good.” Pole starter Brian Blessington led early before giving way to Smith’s brother Devin. After a side-by-side battle, David pulled ahead following a restart with eight laps left in the 25-lapper. Carter writes final chapter in Hogan Memorial history

VINTON, Iowa (July 3) – That $4,908 check was great. But taking home the winner’s trophy from the 25th, final and record-breaking Hogan Memorial, Cayden Carter said, was priceless. Carter led all but nine laps and the last 36 times around the track in the 50-lap IMCA Modified main event Wednesday night at Benton County Speedway, beating Jeff Aikey to the stripe by three car lengths. When the checkers flew, it signaled the end of one of the longest running specials for IMCA Modifieds. A track record 153 cars, including 44 Modifieds from seven states, saw action in front of a very full grandstand. “Winning this race means a lot to us,” said Carter, born a month and a half before the first annual event and who’d also won the Hogan in 2013. “This has always been a big race for us. The Final Ride at Stuart ends with Marriott in victory lane

By Josh Reynolds STUART, Iowa (July 2) – Everything about the Ron Little Memorial was big. A track record 141 cars took to the track Tuesday for the 20th and final event at Stuart Speedway. Forty-seven of those entries were IMCA Modifieds and Hunter Marriott wrote his name in as the $2,000 feature winner of a 30-lapper that ran green to checkers. Dubbed The Final Ride by members of the late IMCA Modified driver’s family, the main event saw Marriott and Travis Hatcher show the way, with Marriott leading Josh Most and Hatcher early on. Cody Laney advanced to third on lap four and with three and even four wide racing back in the pack it was still Marriott out front at the halfway point. Lapped traffic started around this time, but Marriott was smooth and strong as he went on to lead the entire way to pick up the top check. Diamond Mountain Wild West Modified Tour wins to Alvarado, DeVilbiss

VERNAL, Utah (June 28-29) – The second weekend installment of the 2019 Wild West Modified Tour ended a lot like the first. Ricky Alvarado won the Friday night feature for IMCA Modifieds at Diamond Mountain Speedway while Zane DeVilbiss topped the Saturday show. They’d also paced $1,000 to win, Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying shows during the opening weekend of the tour at Aztec Speedway in May. Alvarado’s tour-leading 33rd win, and seventh at Vernal, came from outside the front row pole and through heavy lapped traffic before the checkers flew. The last 10 circuits stayed green in the 25-lapper and Regan Tafoya and Michael hale completed the top three. “The car was really good. 30th annual Kupper Chevrolet Dakota Classic Tour starts Saturday in Jamestown

JAMESTOWN, N.D. – IMCA Modified and IMCA Sunoco Stock Car drivers from 12 states and Canada have already pre-registered for the 30th annual Kupper Chevrolet Dakota Classic Tour. The tour starts its six consecutive day run Saturday, July 6 at Jamestown Speedway. The Tour then goes to Nodak Speedway at Minot on Sunday, July 7. On Monday, July 8, the series travels across the international border to Estevan, Sask., Motor Speedway. Williston Basin Speedway is the next stop on Tuesday, July 9. The series then heads to Southwest Speedway in Dickinson on Wednesday, July 10.
