Opening night for IMCA Modifieds is Saturday at Perris

By Scott Daloisio  PERRIS, Calif. – Perris Auto Speedway’s historic 25th anniversary season will continue this Saturday, March 14, when the IMCA Modifieds make their 2020 debut. Spectator gates will open at 5 p.m. and the first race will get the green flag at 7 p.m.  In addition to the racing, at intermission the track’s cross over gates will open and the drivers will park their cars on the front straightaway to pass out free candy to the kids in attendance.   Saturday’s opener includes the debut of Norco High School senior Alyssa Smith in the IMCA Modified division. One of the, if not the most popular driver on stock car nights, she is moving up from the PASSCAR Street Stock class. Now known as the Hot Rod Blonde, Smith burst onto the scene at Perris when she won the 2015-16 Winter Series factory stock championship. IMCA Sport Compacts are new to Saturday shows at Oregon’s Cottage Grove Speedway

COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. – IMCA Mach-Sport Compacts have their first weekly home in the Pa­cific Northwest with the new sanction at Cottage Grove Speedway.  The 4-cylinder class will run on 15 nights during the IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing point sea­son, beginning on opening night March 21 and running through Sept. 6.  “We like everything about the Sport Compacts as an entry level class, especially the rules,” said promoter and new track owner Heather Boyce. “This is a class that is very affordable for young drivers or for fans who may not have family experience racing but want to get a car and have fun on a Saturday night.” The division replaces a local hornet class. “Sport Compacts work both ends of the spectrum for us,” Boyce noted. “They’ll be a great step­ping stone for drivers who want to move up to IMCA Modifieds or Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods. Wood, Martin score Sprint Series of Oklahoma opening weekend wins

MEEKER, Okla. (March 7-8) – Danny Wood ran his winning streak to three before Jason Martin started a streak of his own during opening weekend action for the Sprint Series of Oklahoma.  Wood topped Saturday’s main event for IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars at Red Dirt Raceway, tak­ing the lead just before midway in the 20-lapper. And under gray Sunday skies, Martin motored from eighth on the initial grid to catch Wood for the lead in heavy traffic on the 10th of 25 circuit.  A double winner at Lawton Speedway on the final weekend of the 2019 IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing point season, Wood had just two career SSO starts under his belt coming into the dou­bleheader at Red Dirt and his Saturday night could have only gotten better after he drew the 98 pill. First scoring job leads Feller to Maquoketa promoter’s post

MAQUOKETA, Iowa – Score a career highlight this season for Kevin Feller. Feller returns to his hometown Maquoketa Speedway to promote Saturday night racing, with four IMCA divisions on regular weekly programs and high hopes of introducing a legion of young fans to the sport.  “I haven’t been this fired up about the new race season in a long time. If it wasn’t for this little track, I wouldn’t be where I am,” said Feller, who scored his first race at Maquoketa in 1975 and has since kept track of laps and lineups at another 52 tracks nationwide. “This is a very, very spe­cial place for me.” “I am very driven on getting a young crowd to the track. IMCA Stock Car, Hobby, SportMod drivers chase Mitchell Machine contingency awards

WEBSTER CITY, Iowa – Mitchell Machine rewards the on-track accomplishments of IMCA drivers in four divisions for a 14th consecutive season.  Regional point standings for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, and national point standings for Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods and Smiley’s Racing Products Southern SportMods again determine recipients of contingency awards given by the Webster City, Iowa, transmission manufacturer and machine shop.  Drivers in all of those divisions are required to compete with a Mitchell-manufactured transmission, return a sign-up form to the IMCA home office by Aug. 1, provide proof of pur­chase made between Jan. 1 and Oct. 1, 2020 and display two Mitchell Machine decals on their race car.  The top three eligible finishers in standings for both Stock Car regions and both Hobby Stock regions, and national standings for the two SportMod divisions will receive product certificates valued at $250, $100 and $100, respectively, All Mitchell Machine awards will be presented during the national banquet in November or mailed beginning the following week from the IMCA home office. Dialed in, Egbert drives to Jack Bagby Memorial win

WACO, Texas (March 6) – Quick to get a new car dialed in, P.J. Egbert was quick to get to the checkers and $1,000 IMCA Modified payday Friday at Heart O’ Texas Speedway’s Jack Bagby Memorial.  Egbert led all 20 laps, moving from the top of the track to the lower line and holding off David Goode Jr. the last five times around the oval.  “Luck was on our side, getting to start on the front row,” said Egbert, wheeling a 2020 Lethal Chassis at the 23rd annual special. “We can’t complain at all. It was good to get another win here.” Egbert had banked $5,000 and put his name of the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot when he won the Fall Classic in his most recent HO’T start last fall.  Several early cautions slowed the main event, which ended with a long green flag run. Foley is first at Central Arizona Speedway

Foley took the IMCA Modified checkers ahead of Chaz Baca Jr., Spencer Wilson, Jacob Pace and Eston Whisler.  Central Arizona Speedway resumes action during the Pinal County Fair on Saturday, Mach 21, with Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods joining the IMCA Modifieds on the program.
