DENISON, Iowa – Crawford County Speedway will crown its first IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car champion this season. Eight dates for the winged class are scheduled on Fridays at Denison, beginning April 24 when the Sprint Series of Nebraska comes to town for opening night of the Spring Fling special. The Sprints are also on May 8 and 22, June 5 and 19 and July 10, 17 and 31 programs. “Iowa is the heart of Sprint Car racing. Set for Friday and Saturday, March 27-28, the annual Mike Hughes Sunflower Classic Memorial presented by Nutrien Ag Solutions will see both night shows paying $1,000 to win. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, E3 Spark Plugs Kansas State and series points will be awarded. A huge car count is expected with drivers from Nebraska, Oklahoma and Colorado indicating their intentions on competing with their Kansas counterparts. Westhold Transponders and RACEceivers are required and the track is asking all teams competing to pit in a group on the west side of the main pit area. Spectator gates will open at 5 p.m. and the first race will get the green flag at 7 p.m. In addition to the racing, at intermission the track’s cross over gates will open and the drivers will park their cars on the front straightaway to pass out free candy to the kids in attendance. Saturday’s opener includes the debut of Norco High School senior Alyssa Smith in the IMCA Modified division. COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. – IMCA Mach-Sport Compacts have their first weekly home in the Pacific Northwest with the new sanction at Cottage Grove Speedway. The 4-cylinder class will run on 15 nights during the IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing point season, beginning on opening night March 21 and running through Sept. 6. “We like everything about the Sport Compacts as an entry level class, especially the rules,” said promoter and new track owner Heather Boyce. “This is a class that is very affordable for young drivers or for fans who may not have family experience racing but want to get a car and have fun on a Saturday night.” The division replaces a local hornet class. “Sport Compacts work both ends of the spectrum for us,” Boyce noted. “They’ll be a great stepping stone for drivers who want to move up to IMCA Modifieds or Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods.
