Woodworth scores opener at Lee County Speedway

By Brian Neal  DONNELLSON, Iowa (April 23) – Dennis Woodworth picked up the IMCA Sunoco Late Model feature win Friday, in a fast-paced and caution-free contest on opening night at Lee County Speedway. Woodworth and Tommy Elston led the field to green. Woodworth used his front row draw to his advantage by grabbing the lead on lap one over Elston and Dustin Griffin. While Woodworth set a torrid pace out front, Elston, Griffin, Mark Burgtorf and Nick Marolf waged a great battle for the runner-up spot.  Without a caution to bunch the field up, Woodworth cruised to an easy win. Griffin won the battle for second, Burgtorf was third, Marolf fourth and Elston came home in fifth. The 18-lap IMCA Modified feature saw Levi Smith and Chad Giberson draw the front row. Giberson took advantage of his draw to lead lap one over Michael Long, and Smith. The yellow waved just after the first lap was scored complete and on the restart, Long shot past Giberson to take over the top spot. The fast pace Long set [Read More]

Nezworski, Diercks top rich Davenport IMCA features

By Mike McGuire  DAVENPORT, Iowa (April 23, 2021) – Friday was Koehler Electric Season Opener at the Davenport Speedway. With extra money on the line in two divisions, the competition was intense. The IMCA Sunoco Late Models provided the closest finish of the evening. Their 25-lap feature started with Andy Nezworski grabbing the early lead from the pole. Nezworski built up a lead until the caution flags started to fly on lap eight. Chuck Hanna used the race’s final restart to propel himself up to second and then used the high side to reel in Nezworski. As the leaders encountered lapped traffic, Hanna drew alongside the leader. At the checkers, it was Nezworski by mere inches over Hanna. Justin Kay fended off Matt Ryan for a third place finish. Fred Remley was a distant fifth. Spencer Diercks led flag-to-flag in the IMCA Modified main. Diercks started on the outside pole and went directly to the top of the racetrack. Frostbuster champ, middle schooler Mallicoat takes Boone foes to class in first SportMod win

BOONE, Iowa – Izac Mallicoat’s first Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod championship preceded his first win in the IMCA division by not quite two weeks.  The top driver in point standings for the four-race Frostbuster, Mallicoat won his first feature at hometown Boone Speedway on April 17, holding off Johnathon Logue. The magnitude of the accomplishment didn’t escape the 14-year-old, a baby in the stands when his father Jason was crowned SportMod champion at the 2006 IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. “It was pretty exciting. It was cool to get my first win at Boone, which I think is one of the hardest tracks to win at,” said Mallicoat, an eighth grader at Boone Middle School. “I never thought I’d get my first win so soon.” Mallicoat was a grade schooler when he started racing go karts on dirt and asphalt, progressing to winged carts before getting his feet wet in a SportMod. His feature win came in his ninth start of the season.  Lonnie Hodges led early on before Mallicoat slipped into [Read More]
