Andy Eckrich captures final Drive For 5 IMCA Late Model qualifier at Lee County

By Brian Neal DONNELLSON, Iowa (Aug. 6) – Andy Eckrich won for the first time this season at Lee County Speedway Friday night, on the final night of Iowa Corn Growers Association Drive For 5 qualifying for IMCA Sunoco Late Models. Dave Eckrich and Chris Horn drew front row starts for the 25-lapper and Eckrich used the favorable position to grab the lead on lap one over Dustin Griffin and brother Andy, who started eighth. One lap later, Andy Eckrich overtook Griffin for the runner-up spot and went to work on his brother Dave for the lead. Andy looked under the leader coming off the corners for the next 10 laps but Dave was able to hold him off at the line each trip around the 3/8th’s mile oval. Williamson wins opening night of Wild West IMCA Modified Shootout at Willamette

(Aug. 6) – Four-time series champion Jesse Williamson was the winner Friday night as the Wild West IMCA Modified Shootout returned for the first time since June 29, 2019. The site of that last appearance was at Willamette Speedway in Lebanon. That would be the venue to host the opening leg of the 2021 schedule. At the beginning of the 40-lap, $1,000 to win main event, Williamson took the top place position on the opening start. After that, the field underwent a long twenty-three-lap green flag run, bringing some traffic into play. Williamson was briefly harassed by some contenders but managed to carve his way through lapped traffic. Three stoppages took out any further contact with the back of the field and put more emphasis on the restarts. Williamson was challenged briefly by Collen Winebarger. BATESVILLE, Ark. – The top-paying IMCA Sunoco Stock Car event in the world takes The Class Too Tough To Tame to Batesville Motor Speedway for the $50,000 to win World IMCA Stock Car Championship Oct. 13-16. Presented by IMCA-TV, the inaugural event will start 30 cars and boasts a main event purse of $125,000 with $15,000 paid to the runner-up, $10,000 for third, $5,000 for fourth, $3,000 for fifth and a minimum of $1,500 to start. The top two drivers from each of 15 heat races transfer to nightly ‘A’ features Wednesday, Thursday and Friday with the top nine from that race advancing to the Saturday main event. First-time Hancock County competitor takes Night of 1,000 Stars IMCA Modified win

BRITT, Iowa (Aug. 6) – Tripp Gaylord’s latest first-time track visit led him to victory lane at Hancock County Speedway. Gaylord raced from 10th starting to win Friday’s IMCA Modified Night of 1,000 Stars main event, and $3,000, at Hancock County Speedway. “This was our first time at Britt. Every IMCA Speedweek track is new to us,” the Colorado driver said. “It’s always nice to win the first time you race somewhere. We know that whenever we travel out of town we have to be at the top of our game.” Jeremy Mills led early in the 50-lapper before Kollin Hibdon ran him down. That pair battled for the lead before the charging Gaylord entered the fray. They ran three-wide for the lead for several laps with Gaylord in charge at the midway break. Strategy pays off for Denning with Durbin Memorial win

Denning got the hole shot from his P3 start, had the lead before the first circuit was completed and ended up cruising to the 30-lap Greg Durbin Memorial main event for IMCA Modifieds Sunday evening at East Moline Speedway. The second annual event was held to celebrate the late member of the prominent Durbin racing family and driver of the No. 8 Modified. Already Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational qualifying eligible, Denning gathered $2,008 for the victory out of the nearly $8,000 up for grabs. The Sterling, Ill., hotshoe saw a straightaway advantage vanish on Lap 11 when one of the only three cautions flew. IMCA Speedweek success for Shryock at friendly confines of Kossuth County

ALGONA, Iowa (Aug. 5) – The track where Kelly Shryock earned his 500th career feature win became the site of his first IMCA Speedweek victory. Shryock checked out on his IMCA Modified foes Thursday evening, taking the $2,100 checkers at Kossuth County Speedway. “We’ve been working pretty hard and everything has fallen into place for us at the right time,” Shryock said. “We have a had a good car on the flatter tracks. It’s been a great season for us.” He’d started fourth and drove by Nick Meyer and Zane DeVilbiss for the lead early in the 20-lap Denny Hovinga/Gary Harken Memorial main event at Algona. Never seriously challenged, Shryock won ahead of Jeremy Mills.
